Aretha Franklin Making Goodwill Gestures

December 12th, 2008

Aretha Franklin

After a whirlwind of bad press surrounding Aretha Franklin, most of which distracted people from the fact that she released This Christmas, there’s a breath of fresh air regarding the “Queen of Soul.”

She’s giving a free concert next month, Jan. 19, on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The concert, Let Freedom Ring!, is co-sponsored by Georgetown University, and will happen on the eve of the Inauguration for President-elect Barack Obama.

We all know that she’ll probably kill it on stage with those classic vocal pipes. I just hope that she’ll be on her best behavior and not bring up Beyoncé or Tina Turner. But wouldn’t it be great though if they joined her on stage as a gesture of goodwill?

Do you think this concert will put Ms. Franklin back on the good side of many music fans?

Aretha is too big and it looks ugly. She needs to lose some weight…NOW!

Too all black women, being big is out. There is nothing chic about it at all.

Chris and angela make good points- Aretha’s mouth and overall appearance is way too big. Even though she has always been a little on the heavy side, she has really picked up weight over the years, and it doesnt look good. she should be focusing on losing weight and getting healthy instead of acting like a diva.

Aretha is always hating on someone…she hates Gladys Knight…shes a mess. I guess being a Mom at 15 will make you angry during old age.

Aretha has never come for some one until they came for her first in the press!!……Those who made the comments like “her mouth is to big” need to do their history…Gladys Knight made comments dissing Aretha first in her book, plus reading Gladys book, she is the one who is bitter and jealous of female singers who’s careers have been bigger then hers!..Once again,do your history before you make short sighted comments..Rarely has she been in the press with stories about her getting into it with any one….”On her best behavior” the writer could have saved that commit!!..

Also Re’s fans still line up for her after 40 years, after set backs in her life..having kids early in life, mom dying when she was 9,father shot to death and siblings dying before reaching 65yrs from cancer, she still can do positive things like give free concerts and still has the love of her fans..So go ahead, make dumb comments all you want, she’s done more in her life so far then most people will in their entire life!..
