John Legend Keeps His Name Out of the Tabloids

October 30th, 2008

John Legend

John Legend’s latest disc, Evolver didn’t sell as well during its first week like its predecessor, Once Again. I guess a lot of people are watching their coins, considering the economic meltdown, and distinguishing necessities versus needs.

But Legend isn’t being a cry baby about it. He did offer a mature response to Associated Press, though, during an interview when the thought of perhaps more media coverage would bolster his status in mainstream pop.  Legend aligned himself with critically acclaimed pop stars such as Coldplay and Chris Martin, arguing that you don’t read about them constantly in the tabloids.
He then goes on to talk about Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. “You read about for instance, Britney Spears all the time and her last album didn’t even sell that well,” Legend said, “You read about Lindsay Lohan all the time her last album didn’t sell that well, nor have her movies sold that well, so “I don’t think there’s that strong of a correlation between tabloid coverage and album sales.”

Now for a round of applause for Legend for keeping his dignity in check; but what if the argument is right. Is Legend trying to be hard to be “Goodie Two Shoes?”  Or is he just keeping it real?

It’s about time that there is a classy guy that can sing R&B and Jazz with such ease. No his name is not being thrown around the tabloids because that is not how he carries himself. Goodie two shoes? Give me a break. It seems John Legend has dignity and will bring it back.

I think it’s wonderful that John Legend conducts himself with class and dignity. He understands that his life doesn’t have to be a headline on top of every tabloid. He’s a great philathropist, and he gets himself attention by being a great singer, not for humiliating himself or getting caught in some scandals. As far as “Good Two Shoes”, that’s just wrong. He’s just being low-key, doing things at his own pace, and keeping it real. You can see it in the way he acts, in the sound of his music, which is not “mainstream”. My kudos goes out to you, John. You’re classy, dignified, talented, and a great influence. Keep it up!

Mr. Legend, stay true to “GOD” and continue being the classy man that You are. Your music is very personal and real; it’s not about what piece of ass you’re slapping on or sliding down a pole to a lollipop of HUMAN ANATOMY!!! Music has always been your dream, please don’t get caught up in the mix. YOUR FAITH WILL CONTINUE TO REWARD YOU!!!!!!!!!! With Love, Ms. Davis

True talent doesn’t need the smoke and mirrors and showing out that gets tabloid coverage! There is nothing more unappealing than an “artist” that stoops to that level just to get attention. John Legends’s talent, hard work, and don’t forget good looks (he’s such a cutie!) generates the enthusiams that sustains a long and prosperous career. We all know he is definitely no “flash in the pan” or “one hit wonder.” His talent has staying power!

Just saw John Legend in Fairfield, CT, drove from NYC and was treated to a small inimate show (general admission) in the Fairfield University Alumni Hall. I came a little later and somehow got to the front row.It was my second time seeing Legend and it was truely a moving show. The whole band gave it their best! They played for almost 2 hours.
Swiftly went through most of Evolver and highlights from the previous albums.
Brought out someone from the crowd to slow dance, energetic and preachiong messages of love, hope, and change. Ended with a humanitarian speech about his “Show Me Campaign” and a chill sending version of “If You’re Out There”
Don’t know if I’ll ever get to see John Legend in such a small setting again. It was a great performance in the first snow fall in Tri-state area of NYC.
