Rashida Jones Wants to Drag John Travolta Out of the ClosetPublished by Natasha Fierce on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:00 am.
Rashida Jones is cleaning out closets this week, and not just hers. The indie actress made a list for SpinningPlatters.com of famous people she’d like to come out. Topping the list? John Travolta.
“It’s time,” Jones tells the site. “Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this.”
“People are so precious about their careers,” adds the daughter of a media mogul (Quincy Jones) and movie star (Peggy Lipton).
While we love Rashida, sexual orientation falls under a person’s right to privacy, no?
In her own defense, Jones sites the recent bravery of Frank Ocean and Anderson Cooper. “But big stars need to come out. Ricky Martin was huge. That was big; I was really happy about that.”
Next, the Celeste and Jesse Forever star says she’s eyeing someone from the NBA, or, perhaps, the NFL: “There needs to be, like, a professional athlete that comes out.”
Let’s be clear: It is a wonderful and heartening thing when an individual in the public eye decides to speak openly about his or her sexuality. But it’s really not our business to dictate when a person takes that step. Coming out is a personal journey — and as we say at BET, “We got you!”
