The new year is already prompting new beginnings with stars who are kicking things off full speed ahead on the romance front.

When the ball dropped December 31, LeBron James popped the question to the mother of his two sons Savannah Brinson at a private dinner in Miami.  The couple are high school sweethearts, and have been together for over eight years along with their sons 7-year-old LeBron Jr. and 4-year-old Bryce — making it official has been a long time coming!  The engagement party was hosted by Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union and 50 guests, including Nas, Queen Latifah, Chris & Adrienne Bosh, LeBron’s mother Gloria James, supermodel Jessica White, and more, came to celebrate the happy couple and also toasted to LeBron’s 27th birthday (December 30, 1984).

Aretha Franklin is getting her groove back and was recently engaged to her longtime friend William “Willie” Wilkerson, a former Detroit firefighter. The 69-year-old singer has been married twice before, but is looking to make third time a charm in a ceremony that may come this summer. “We’re looking at June or July for our date, and no, I’m not pregnant, LOL!” she said. Franklin and Wilkerson are considering a ceremony in Miami Beach, followed by a reception on a private yacht.

And although last year’s rumors had Jennifer Hudson calling off her wedding to her WWE beau David Otunga the singer and actress says the nuptials are still on. “Oh, we’ve set the date. We’re just not telling. … no, not telling. Some things you keep to yourself,” Hudson said during an exclusive NBC Dateline interview that airs this Sunday. Maybe this year  will find J-Hid with a ring on it? The couple’s 2 year old son, David Jr. would make a cute ring bearer and Jennifer’s already got her dress figured out. “It’s a show,” she said. “It has three pieces to it. I designed it myself. It has a coat for the entrance and then when I get ready to walk, you take that part off. And then it’s another dress. And then by the time I get to the alter, it’s a whole new dress.

There’s about to be a whole lot of broom jumping this year! Congrats to all the couples!

Aretha Franklin Has Words for Fantasia’s Grammy Boycott

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 12:00 am.

As we await the Queen of Soul’s return to daytime television, Aretha Franklin is still making headlines.

The legendary soul singer has offered youngblood Fantasia Barrino some advice: Know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em.

Yes, Fantasia was irked that she wasn’t included in the tribute to Franklin at the Grammy Awards—to the point where she boycotted the entire show.

Well, Aretha has something to say about it, and here it goes:

“I was sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset because she did not get the opportunity to participate in my Grammy tribute this year. I recall that in the past, Fantasia participated in both my MusicCares Person of the Year Tribute and my United Negro College Fund Tribute. Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her, she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like participate in. I’m sure it was not an intentional omission. I will see Fantasia over the summer here in Detroit.”

Please listen to her, Fantasia.

Did Christina Aguilera Redeem Herself At The Grammys?

Published by Runteldat on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 12:00 am.

After the country practically called mutiny on Christina Aguilera for flubbing the lines of the National Anthem last weekend during the Super Bowl, the singer redeemed herself with her performance during the tribute to Aretha Franklin at last night’s Grammy Awards.

The singer’s solo cut was a lovely rendition of “Ain’t No Way.”

She didn’t flub the lines nor did she sound like Heathcliff during a heart attack.

However, a few people did note that Christina nearly took a tumble during her performance. Fortunately for her ankles and fledgling reputation, she grabbed on to a mic stand before she became another Internet video sensation.

No, really, she sounded great and after the week she’s had let’s just celebrate that.

See the performance featuring Christina, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride, and Florence Wench below:

Aretha Franklin Says Her Health is ‘Superb’

Published by Dior Noir on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 4:30 pm.

We “said a little prayer” for an ailing Aretha Franklin  after she had surgery last month for an undisclosed ailment, and great news: the legendary singer says she’s doing well!

The Queen of Soul called into The Wendy Williams Show today and told the host that her health is “superb” and that she’s relaxing at a casino hotel in her hometown of Detroit. While she has two more weeks of down time as she continues her recovery, Franklin said she hopes to be travelling again soon and noted she’ll be ”looking for a fabulous beach.” She also added that she has a “man” after Wendy asked if she had a boyfriend, so hopefully that man is helping her recuperate!

The 68-year-old was admitted to the hospital back in December for the surgery and it  was said to be successful. In November she suffered broken ribs and abdominal pain after a fall and announced that she was cancelling all concert dates and personal appearances through May. Today she vowed to reschedule all concerts she’s missed.

In other news, Aretha also confirmed that Halle Berry will be playing her in an upcoming biopic. Interesting! Click here for the details.

Aretha Franklin “Doing Better Than Expected”

Published by Runteldat on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 9:00 am.

The Queen of Soul is heading home.

According to her cousin Brenda Corbett, Aretha Franklin is “doing better than expected.”

Corbett explained to the Detroit Press that Auntie Re-Re “has a long life in front of her and will be back in concert, on stage, late spring or early summer.”

There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding the health of Franklin following her announcement that she was undergoing a surgical procedure months after revealing she was canceling all public appearances and performances.

Then another relative confirmed to Detroit’s Fox 2 news that she was suffering from cancer. The National Enquirer claimed Franklin was battling the incurable pancreatic cancer.

We continue to hope the best for Ms. Franklin’s health and her family.

Aretha Franklin Resting After Hospital Visit

Published by Dior Noir on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 11:19 am.

Aretha Franklin is at home recuperating after a stay at Detroit’s Sinai Grace Hospital. The Queen of Soul’s rep said she was admitted to the hospital at the recommendation of her doctors, but wouldn’t elaborate on her medical issue.

The past few months have been hectic for Franklin and the stress may be taking its toll. In August she canceled a string of performances after suffering two broken ribs and abdominal pain that resulted from a fall. September found her at the hospital again, when her son had emergency surgery after being severely beaten.

Following her recent hospital stint, Franklin is said to be  ”resting comfortably.”  She’ll be sitting out of performances for the rest of 2010, so hopefully she’ll take all the time she needs to get back on her feet. ”I would like to thank my friends, fans and supporters for all the beautiful flowers and their many well wishes,” she said in a statement.

Aretha Son’s Severely Beaten In Detroit

Published by Runteldat on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 3:00 pm.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Aretha Franklin and family after it was reported that her son was severely beaten in Detroit.

A spokesperson for the legendary soul singer confirms that two men and a woman attacked her 52-year-old son Eddie Franklin Monday night at a gas station in Detroit.

Eddie had to undergo emergency surgery.

Detroit police said they were looking into the matter but had no other information at the time.

Eddie sang on his mother’s most recent album, A Woman Falling Out of Love.

He last made headlines in 2002 after he was deemed a suspect in the fire at Aretha’s $1.6 mansion located outside of Detroit.

Aretha Franklin Cancels Shows After Breaking Two Ribs in a Fall

Published by Dior Noir on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 3:00 pm.

Aretha Franklin has been forced to pull the plug on a pair of scheduled concerts in Brooklyn this week after taking a tumble in a bathtub at her Detroit home Sunday. She suffered two broken ribs from the fall and doctors say she is suffering from abdominal pain and will need to undergo further tests.

The Queen of Soul will miss what would’ve been her first appearances in Brooklyn, New York: the first at Wingate Field in Crown Heights on Aug. 9 and again at Asser Levy Seaside Park in Coney Island on Aug. 12 as part of an initiative by Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz. She was also scheduled to perform at an Aug. 11 birthday party for U.S. Representative Charles Rangel.

“I was very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island,” the singer said in a statement. “Hopefully, I will get it before the end of August.”

We’re sending our prayers up for you, Aretha! You’ll be rockin’ steady again in no time.

Weekend Fix: The Game Disses Jay and Bey; Plus Lil’ Kim and Lil’ Wayne News

Published by Dior Noir on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

game-jay-z

The Game is not playing! For years the Compton rapper has been taking shots at Jay-Z, but he upped the ante recently (guess he really, really needs some publicity?) taking the drama overseas.  In a  concert in Madrid The Game repeatedly chanted “Fu–k Jay-Z….old ass ni–a” (and even got the crowd to join in!) before spitting a diss rap over Hov’s “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)” beat. He let the low blows roll and even took shots at Beyonce rapping:

This isn’t about Beef/This isn’t about Destiny/I’m in Madrid banging the c-p-t/You got a bad b–ch word?/Ain’t no pu–y like hers?/Just ask the Mavericks, Rockets, and the Spurs/ I mean… I mean my b–ch don’t slang p–sy like that.”

Wilin’!  Now Jay has previously said that he won’t be responding to The Game’s taunts, but I wonder what he’ll have to say now that Bey’s name has been dragged into the picture?

In other crazy performance news: Lil’ Kim is scheduled to take the stage with Cyndi Lauper at a concert to honor South African President Nelson Mandela’s 91st birthday. All I want to know is who approved that!? While I’ve been know to get down to a Queen Bee song or two, somehow I can’t imagine the elderly Mandela rocking to “Big Momma Thang” overseas. Other performers include Stevie Wonder, Queen Latifah, Wyclef, Aretha Franklin, will.i.am and err T-Pain (doesn’t he seem a little out of place on this bill too? He better not wear that “Big A– Chain” he’s been rocking as of late!). Should be an interesting production to say the least.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne’s being sued yet again for blowing off a concert. TMZ reports that Red City Entertainment is coming after Weezy for $432,000 for failing to appear at his own concert in the Bahamas (police went to check on the rapper when he didn’t show and found him unconscious). Wayne just canceled a European tour citing “health problems” earlier this month and has been sued for flaking on concerts in the past. I don’t know what’s wrong with this man, but I know one thing: with all these baby mamas and new tots on the way, he needs to stop playing and make that money. Those child support bills are about to start piling up real soon!
