Celebrities are just like us. If you pop their names into genealogy websites, you can uncover their connections—to each other. Geni.com recently unearthed that Spike Lee and Brad Pitt are distant cousins. According the website, the Lee and Pitt clans crossed paths historically 12 generations ago.
Here’s the connection according to TMZ: “Brad’s “great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather” was the brother of Spike’s “great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother”.
The two are showbiz friends and worked together on Lee’s 2010 documentary, If the Levees Don’t Rise, about Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the Gulf Coast. In it, Spike praised Brad’s humanitarian efforts and his Make It Right Foundation, which constructed homes in New Orleans, Louisiana for those misplaced by the storm.
For his efforts Spike called Pitt, a “great American.” Well of course he is! Brad is his 12th cousin!
The two were last seen together at the Oscars Governor’s Ball last Sunday. It is still not known if Lee and Pitt are aware of their connection.
Wouldn’t you like to go to that family reunion?
