Who knew a nutritious cold breakfast cereal could spark such red-hot rage on the basketball courts? That’s just what happened when loud mouth extraordinaire Kevin Garnett went head to head with Carmelo Anthony over his estranged wife LaLa. Allegedly, the couple have been living apart for at least two months.
According to Black Sports Online, Garnett told Anthony, “Your wife tastes like Honeynut Cheerios,” during an Eastern Conference Game at Madison Square Garden. The star players immediately had to be separated on the court and were charged with technical fouls.
But for Anthony, it was not over. He yelled outside the Celtics’ locker room after the 102-66 Knicks loss and tried to confront Garrett again as the Celtics team boarded their team bus leaving the Garden. It took Madison Square Garden Security, five New York Police Department cops and New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson to diffuse the matter. Once cooler heads prevailed Anthony had plenty to say about the confrontation and dust-up.
“It’s something you just don’t say to men, another man,” Anthony said following practice at the Knicks’ training facility according to the New York Daily News.
NBA sources say Anthony, 28, did call Garnett, 36, after the confrontation at the Garden bus ramp.
Anthony admitted, “I lost my cool. It just was out of character,” he said. “I allowed some negativity to come into my circle. It’s over with for me. Whatever happened… happened. The words that were being said between Garnett, and me it happened; can’t take that away. I accept that, but there’s just certain things that push certain people’s buttons.”
