It’s the end of an era both for Michael Vick and one of his ex-top canines. Vick’s former pooch, Lucas was humanely euthanized on Wednesday at the Best Friend Animal Society in Kanab, Utah. The 13-year old dog was suffering from accumulating health problems.
Lucas was rescued from the dogfighting ring circuit in 2007, after that time he was rehabilitated with nearly two-dozen dogs that also spent time in the ring. Despite his new life, Lucas wasn’t eligible for adoption because of his fighting history — he was Vick’s grand champion. Instead Lucas was a lifetime care dog at the animal sanctuary. But the CEO for Best Friends Gregory Castle said it was, “a blessing in every way to be around him… ”
Guess that’s why they call them man’s best friend.
