Nicki Minaj Felt Uncomfortable About Eminem’s Use of Slur

Published by Runteldat on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 3:54 pm.

As happy as many Nicki Minaj fans were about her landing an appearance from multiplatinum rapper Eminem on her debut album, a few were taken aback by Em’s use of a gay slur on their collabo, “Roman’s Revenge.”

The use of the word f—-t was somewhat shocking given the platinum rap star’s long-professed affinity for her gay fans. Just last fall, Minaj lent her voice to the “It Gets Better” campaign, a viral initiative seeking to promote tolerance in light of increasing suicides by teens plagued by bullies. Why would Nicki allow someone to use one of the very slurs used to hurt the teens she sought to aid?

It’s a concern Nicki herself is now acknowledging. In an interview with Out.com, the rapper, once rumored to be bisexual, says she was initially uncomfortable with Eminem’s use of the derogatory term. She explained, “You know, if I’m being honest, I didn’t like [him using it]. I spoke to everyone I knew about it. I spoke to my hairdresser, who’s one of my closest friends. I sat him down and said, ‘Terrence, what do you think about this?’”

After a long talk, her friend and wig wrangler ultimately told her that he didn’t feel like Eminem was talking about a gay person per se when he used the slur, so he didn’t take offense to it. That helped settle some of her concerns as well as her belief that her collaborator was essentially playing a role.

Minaj added, “It’s Eminem. I felt like we were creating a movie. And in the same way, I feel like if you were to watch your favorite actor or actress say ‘f—-t’ or say ‘n—-r’ in a movie, you don’t hate them because it’s like they’re playing a role.” Unfortunately, when you have a history of being blatantly homophobic, there are some roles you shouldn’t tackle. Conversely, though there may indeed be a thin line between creativity and something being offensive, a gay slur from a “former homophobe” is doing the wobble up and down on that very line. Regardless of whether or not Eminem meant a gay person specifically with his use of the word, its definition is still rooted in, and thus further perpetuates, homophobia.

As a fan of Nicki Minaj, I can tell that she was earnest in her efforts to attempt to find balance between freedom of speech and her conscience. Sadly, a number of her gay fans may still be disappointed in the result. In the future, Nicki, if your first instinct is that something is making you uncomfortable, it should probably be your last.

Nicki Minaj Is Not Pregnant

Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 12:00 am.

She just went platinum, she’s about to go on tour, and she’s planning to expand her brand by way of film roles and more beauty products.

With that in mind, why did some of your cousins actually believe the whimper of whispers that Nicki Minaj was pregnant with her first lil’ Barbz?

Quite a few, I guess, because a rep for the rapper had to respond to reports that Nicki was impregnated by her longtime hype-man and rumored ex-boyfriend, Safarree Samuels.

Fret not, though, because a rep for Minaj had this to say about the Harajuku Barbie and Samuels having a baby: “She’s NOT pregnant.”

You all got THAT?

Da Brat Chimes in on Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim Beef

Published by Runteldat on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 12:00 am.

Speaking in her first post-prison release interview, Da Brat shared her thoughts on Nicki Minaj with VIBE.com. The first female solo rapper to go platinum had this to say about the latest one to achieve that feat:

“I listened to Nicki Minaj’s album and liked it. She’s not keeping herself in a bubble. I like the diversity and that it’s working for her. Because at one point they weren’t letting female rappers do too much. It was either you’re selling sex or you’re being hard. But she gets to do both. That’s a good thing.”

On the beef between her and Lil’ Kim:

“My personal thoughts on beefing … when it’s only like six of us left still trying to put out records … it’s not enough for us to beef. It makes no sense to me. But if that’s what they do let them do that.”

At this point the beef is one-sided, so take note, Kimberly. Da Brat also revealed that she’s still good friends with Mariah Carey:

“Oh man! I talk to Mariah often and her and Nick [Cannon] came to see me. I knew about the miscarriage and I know she’s having the twins. And I know she only wanted to do it one time. They are like the cutest couple, they both are eternally 12. I swear! They’re big kids.”

Da Brat also noted that she plans on losing the braids. I can’t wait to see that again. Now how long before she gets a reality show?

Kimora Lee Simmons Thinks Nicki Minaj Is Sexy

You can add another name to the growing list of celebrities fawning over Nicki Minaj.

Kimora says she loves Nicki for her individuality and what she’s bringing to both music and fashion.

Via SOHH:

“I think she’s a great girl and really beautiful,” Kimora told SOHH. “And I think Nicki Minaj is really sexy. I also think it’s amazing what she’s doing for music and fashion right now. I really see her as an amazing girl and I love everything that she’s doing with the fashion in particular. I love what she’s doing with the fashion because I like for people to be individuals and have their own take on things. So I kind of embrace individuality and that’s what I love the most about her.”

Birdman: Lil’ Kim Needs to “Stop Messing Around With” Nicki Minaj

Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 12:00 am.

As Lil’ Kim continues to spend every single new interview referencing her one-sided beef with Nicki Minaj, one of Kim’s old friends has some advice for her: Find something better to do with your time.

Indeed, Birdman spoke with LosAngelesLeakers.com and shared his insight on Kim’s issues with Nicki. He acknowledged that it’s not Cash Money policy to really stay up on beef, but did offer these words:

“I think Kim just need to do her and stop messing around with Nicki and do her own thing. We’ve always been focused on the music, and Nicki is the hottest thing in the game—nothing is gonna change that!”

You can’t see me right now, but I’m standing up and getting ready to do a church jog. Truer words have never been spoken. Earth to Kimberly: Nicki won by default. Let it go and go back to spitting hot fire. Dylan.

Nicki Minaj Isn’t Looking for Love

Published by Runteldat on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 8:00 am.

Nicki Minaj says that love is the last thing on her mind. The platinum-selling rapper insists that she’s too busy winning professionally to pursue success in more personal areas of her life. Indeed, for Nicki, it’s a time to stack money rather than plan dates.

She explained:

“I have no romance in my life at all, and it’s not important to me right now. I have love for people who are on my team that I see every day and for my family, that’s what makes me do what I do. I also have love for people that I interact with. If I have too much of the romantic love, I feel like it will distract me. Right now I feel like a robot.”

That’s right, she doesn’t have time to sit at home singing Keyshia Cole’s “Love” to herself as she sips dessert wine and eats chicken wings. She’s too busy building an empire, and she hopes her younger fans take her lead.

Nicki added:

“Girls tell me this all the time: ‘Whenever I feel like a bad b***h, I play your music.’ I want girls to get confidence listening to me. I want them to feel like they don’t have to play second fiddle to a boy.”

I’m also going to go out on a limb and say she’s too busy taking over to continue to entertain Lil’ Kim trippin’ out. And yes, Kimberly, that was get-a-new-job shade.

Nicki Minaj Used To Shoplift

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 12:00 am.

Nicki Minaj may now be cashing in on her platinum, newly Billboard 200 topping album, Pink Friday, but back in the day even she used to shoplift like the Lindsay Lohan’s of the world (allegedly).

In an interview with NME magazine, Minaj says one of her friends was a notorious shoplifter and one time she tried to get in on the act – only she got caught.

HB said:

“I remember me and my friend, when we were in high school, we always used to steal clothes. I’ll always remember the one time we got busted. It’s always stuck with me.

We didn’t get taken away by the cops, but we got manhandled and taken away to the basement. We had to give them our names and they were basically like, ‘Because you’re so young we’ll just ban you from the store.’

What’s crazy is that I’d been, like, going to the mall with my friend for months and never once realizing that she’d been stealing clothes. Then when I tried to join in we freaking get busted. It was ridiculous!”

Nicki Minaj Loves Consoling Her Fans, Worries For The Youngest Ones

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 12:00 am.

In an interview with Britain’s The Sun, Nicki Minaj revealed that she’s not sure that some of her youngest fans should even be listening to her music.

She said:

“Being honest, if I had a daughter I wouldn’t want her listening to a Nicki Minaj CD until she was a certain age. Even when I meet my fans and they tell me they are 12, I cringe a little. I always say, ‘Listen. I don’t want you saying the bad words, put school first.’ At the same time, I am like their bigger sister. I’m not like their mom.”

But when it comes to her fans in general, Nicki loves the fact that so many of them reach out to her for comfort via Twitter:

“A lot of people send me direct messages on Twitter telling me what they are going through – their father is on drugs, this and that and the third. They feel like they can deal with all this stuff because I did and survived. They can have the worst hand dealt to them but they can do whatever they set their hearts on.

A lot of fans say they like me because I don’t give a damn what they say about me. As a teenager you spend so much time worrying about what people say about you. When you have someone to look up to and you feel they don’t care, it makes you more comfortable with yourself.”

On the complaints she receives for giving many of her young female fans confidence via Twitter:

“That makes me feel good. If these girls walk around thinking they are the baddest thing on the planet, I am happy. That’s my manifesto. That’s my mission statement.”

Nicki Minaj’s Fans Get Her Kicked Out of London Hotel

Published by Dior Noir on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

Dag, chill out “Barbz!”

Nicki Minaj’s passionate London stans have been so eager to catch a glimpse of her that they’re causing her a little drama during the current leg of her promotional tour. First she was mobbed when she landed at Heathrow Airport (maybe her bad, since she Tweeted her arrival times), then she was booted out of her hotel and she even had to cancel an appearance.

Managers at the Dorchester Hotel threatened to cut Nicki’s stay short after her fans caused a disruption on the grounds, desperate to catch a glimpse of their head B. Today she Tweeted that she was actually kicked out:

“Long day of press only to find out we’ve officially been kicked out the hotel! Lmaoooooooo,”the rapper told her followers. “Rescue me barbz!!!! Pleeeeeeeasse *martha voice*”  “S/O all the kids outside the hotel just now,” she adds. “It got a bit CRAZY but I rlly appreciate ur support. Hopefully the next hotel will be nicer :)

The Young money princess was also forced to cancel an appearance at a London nightclub, Runway, last night after a fight broke out at the venue. She was scheduled to appear after a performance at a nearby club Oceana, but heightened security following the brawl forced her to skip it.

Although she’s moved to an undisclosed hotel, Nicki’s not turning her back on her fans, even if they have made the waters across the pond a little choppy for her. “U can’t have me w/o my barbz!” she Tweeted. “We’re a packaged deal U James Blunt!!!! (Cockney slang for cunt) lmaooooooooo. I’m in the Ukaaaayyyy!!!!!”

11 Things To Hope For In 2011: Nicki Minaj, Lil’ Kim and Twitter

Published by Runteldat on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 12:00 am.

With a new year comes new wishes and in 2011, I’m hoping most if not all of following happens:

11. Raz-B finds a therapist and pharmacist who can serve his needs far better than Twitter and World Star Hip Hop ever have.

10. Lauryn Hill finally decides if she’s going to release another album or not.

9. The Kardashians become less and less interesting with each superfluous story. Oh wait, that’s already happened, hasn’t it? Well, there’s still hope for Kim Kardashian and that whole “singing career,” right?

8. Rihanna starts dance lessons from the Twerk Team. I love Rih but you’ve got to give the rude boys more than just a live Kodak shot on stage.

7. Kelly Rowland finally scores a solo hit single in America. We love Kelly and a hit has got to be coming around the mountain for her.

6. Kanye West never utters the words “Taylor Swift” ever again.

5. Lil’ Kim finds something else to do other than embarrassing herself over Nicki Minaj.

4.  We have no unfortunate celebrity deaths to report around the holidays. Rest in peace, Teena Marie.

3. Beyoncé comes back and saves us from all this mediocrity.

2. Rappers learn to stop dealing with Kat Stacks. Twitter users and bloggers follow suit.

1. Publicists start giving their clients Twitter tutorials. Celebrities learn to stop making it too easy to roast them via failure to spell check, engaging in petty beef, leaking unnecessary nude shots, and other classic mistakes made all too often online.

I won’t hold my breath, though. Happy New Year, readers!
