Kimora Lee Simmons Dating New Owner of Phat Farm?

Well, Kimora Lee Simmons certainly knows how to keep it in the family. Rumor has it that the entrepreneur and reality star, who recently split from her man Djimon Hounsou, is dating financier Marc Leder.

Leder, founder of investment firm Sun Capital Partners, bought Kimora’s companies Phat Farm and Baby Phat back in 2008. But the colleagues were spotted looking not-so-professional in St. Bart’s over the holidays. Page Six reports Kimora spent a lot of her vacation “cavorting” with Leder, so much so that news was spreading on the posh island that the pair were dating.

A rep for Kimora confirms that the pair have been “friends and business associates for many years,” but stayed tight-lipped on whether they’ve taken their relationship to the next level.

And why shouldn’t Kimora have her cake? After a public split with her baby daddy Hounsou, she’s looking runway-ready and better than ever. Clearly there’s been no post-breakup pints of Ben & Jerry’s for Kimmy. We say dating Leder is the best way to put her single status and her career savvy to good use.

Side Note: Guess who was also on St. Bart’s over the holidays? Kimora’s ex-husband Russell Simmons! The former couple continue to show us how it’s done by staying close knit and drama-free. Kimora even spent some bonding time sunbathing with Russell’s new squeeze, Hana Nitsche.

Russell Simmons: “Kimora and Djimon are Fine”

Published by Natasha Fierce on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 12:22 am.

(Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images)

Yesterday the internet was abuzz with rumors that Kimora Lee Simmons and her man Djimon Hounsou were headed for a split, and today, Kimora’s ex Russell Simmons has taken to his blog to defend the mother of his children.

The hip hop mega mogul wrote on GlobalGrind.com that the notion of Kimora and Djimon fighting over his money is completely false, and chastised the New York Daily News for spreading the rumor.

“I called Kimora when I saw all the gossip spreading about her and Djimon splitting and she said it was a waste of energy to comment,” Russell’s post began. “I’ll certainly do it for her and my family.”

He then went on to point-by-point set the record straight about Kimora’s relationship and financial status:

1. Kimora and Djimon are fine.

2. Kimora and Djimon are both doing extremely well in their respective endeavors and businesses and don’t need to fight over or waste energy on money issues.

3. I damn sure don’t pay nor have I ever paid alimony (Kimora does just fine). In no way do I support their lifestyle, so please don’t say they are fighting over MY money.

4. Yes she’s selling a house, but she hasn’t lived in it for several years since she built the house they currently reside in.

5. As for friction between us? There is none. I feel like I’m part of their family. Djimon and Kenzo are like my blood and Kimora is my best friend. We are partners in various businesses and in the really important business of raising our beautiful children.

Those paranoid types who are prone to believe conspiracy theories (or anyone who salivates at the thought of Kimora’s downfall) would be quick to point out that “Kimora and Djimon are fine” is not the same as “Kimora and Djimon are not splitting up,” but we are not that type. In fact, believe it or not, we would be sad to see the demise of this odd-yet-functional family unit. Kooky as they are, they make it work. And given what some other exes put their children through, we respect that they stick together.

Considering some of us think we deserve a medal for simply resisting the urge to set fire to our exes boxer briefs, Russell and Kimora’s (and Djimon’s, for that matter) amicable relationship at least deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Russell Simmons and Melissa George Continue Public Appearances at New York Fashion Week

Published by Dior Noir on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 9:41 am.

Uncle Rush has been spotted with a new lady love lately—Australian actress Melissa George—and the two are getting more comfortable getting out together in public. Last night they sat together together in the front row to watch the Tommy Hilfiger runway show during New York Fashion Week show (September 11).

While waiting for the show to start, Melissa confirmed to reporters that that she and Russell Simmons are indeed an item (not that it really needed to be said after pictures surfaced of the duo swapping spit at the MLS All-Star soccer game against Manchester United in New Jersey) and gushed that everything is going well between them.

Although reports in July captured their public debut of the couple when they appeared arm in arm at the Art for Life Benefit  in the Hamptons, apparently this romance has been brewing for some time. “We’ve known each other for awhile,” she said.

Interesting, considering E! Online reported that she was last seen with her husband of 11 years, Chilean film director Claudio Dabed, in Los Angeles this March. Safe to say that’s a wrap (no ring on her finger), but how long do you think she and Russell will last? We all know how much he likes to switch up his arm candy!

A day after Haiti’s devastating earthquake, President Obama has said that the United States government would offer “swift, coordinated, and aggressive” aid to the estimated three million people caught in the disaster; but celebrities have also started to mobilize to raise support for the country now.

The 7.0 quake, which hit just 10 miles from the densely-populated capital of Port-au-Prince, has left hospitals leveled, people displaced and a rising death toll that, according to the Associate Press. Casualties are believed to be anywhere from 100,000 to as high as 500,000.

“I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse,” said Wyclef Jean in a statement.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who have worked with Wyclef in the past, have also pledged to help in the efforts. “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter,” a statement from the couple said.

A long list of celebrities including John Legend, Nicole Richie, Diddy, and Russell Simmons are spreading the word via their Twitter pages on how to donate to organizations such as The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) — and urging fans to get involved.

Kimora Lee: I’m Not Getting $40,000 From Russell

Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 11:50 am.

kimora-kids

Months ago, it was reported that Russell Simmons was going to make $40,000 a month in child support payments to ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons.

Soon after many women started trying to plan out ways to get knocked up by someone as rich as Russell. Likewise, some men started throwing shade either because they couldn’t get pregnant themselves, or they know what it’s like to cough up a small fortune in diaper and Happy Meal money.

However, Kimora would like us to know that reports of her getting a luxury car a month in child support each month is false.

She told Page Six:

Asked about reports that Russell generously gives her $40,000 a month in child support for their two daughters, Kimora snapped, “I hate that. He has such a big mouth. It drives me crazy, and it makes me want to thump him in the side of his head . . . It’s not accurate.”

So she doesn’t get that much a month, but I bet she still gets enough to afford 12 Accords or Camrys a year.

Russell Simmons Pens Open Letter To Bill Cosby

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 12:00 am.

russell-simmons1

In recent years the legendary Bill Cosby has ignited controversy over his comments about hip-hop, along with young blacks kids and the parents not raising them.

In a new post on Global Grind, Russell Simmons takes Cosby to task – arguing his words point to his own intolerance, and help fuel the longstanding generational divide among blacks.

Simmons wrote:

There are a lot of great entertainers who do great things. Bill Cosby is one of them. He has always used his voice to right what he thought was wrong. However, I believe that too often Mr. Cosby has wrongly placed the blame.

Bill Cosby is an example of someone from the older generation who has consistently blamed the poets and asked suffering community members to bear the full burden of guilt for the struggles that they endure. It is certainly not that he and the rest of the elders don’t care, because they do. In fact, their intentions are pure and good. All the things they say are actually true. What they don’t understand is that the young people who they criticize did not create their own realities. They did not create the crumbling education system that we school them in. They did not create the drug epidemic and drug wars that have resulted in a dysfunctional family structure. They did not create the health care crisis that does not treat them. They did not create the culture of violence that they fall victim to.

While it is true that each one of us can make a change at any moment, it is equally true that at every minute we are all doing the best we can. If you knew better, you would do better. Therefore, those who care and have resources could/should work to create the kind of support systems that could inspire change.

Weekend Fix: Chris Brown to Headline an October Concert! Plus Eve and Russell Simmons

Published by Dior Noir on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

chris_brown

Looks like Breezy’s setting up for the comeback!  According to MTV.com  Chris Brown is scheduled to headline Power 105.1’s Powerhouse concert in New Jersey on October 27th (that’ll be a nice break for him from his 180-day hard labor sentence in Virginia!). The show, which will also feature Fabolous, The Dream, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson and Mario, will be the first major promotional event that Chris has participated in to push his upcoming album Graffiti.  What do you think about the concert: is it too soon for Chris to be back on the scene or has he suffered enough?

From good news to bad news: rapper Eve told TheYBF.com that she permanently shut down her Fetish clothing line due to “legal reasons” and she also confirmed she has left her label Geffen Records. Ouch! Times may be hard or maybe Eve is just on to the next thing and focusing more on her acting interests. She’s in the upcoming Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page movie Whip It! and will be guest starring on the Fox TV show Glee for two episodes.

There might have been even more you missed from The 6th Annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors which was taped this week!  Apparently Russell Simmons was not at all happy with the show that show which commemorated the 25th anniversary of Def Jam Records. Rumor has it that Russell, who co-founded Def Jam, sent an email out to the show’s executive producer and called the show “incomplete at best.” He allegedly said that not having Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye, Damon Dash, LL Cool J, or Irv Gotti involved hurt the show and said that he wasn’t feeling having a comedian host (Tracy Morgan hosted the awards). The show is scheduled to air on October 13th on VH1 so set your DVRs and judge for yourself. In the meantime, have a great weekend! We’ll chat with you next week!

Which One Needs To Calm Down?

Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:50 am.

russell-simmons

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Russell Simmons always talking about being centered, joyful, peaceful and all of those other “woosah” related words?

If so, why was he acting saltier than a bottle of Lawry’s (shout out to T-Boz for the original celebrity endorsement) over his seating at a Charlotte Ronson’s show at New York Fashion Week?

An eyewitness told Radar Online:

“He flipped out over his seating. He thought his seat was given away and lost it on some poor staffer on the runway moments away from the show’s start.

‘When I walked in here, there was like 40 seats,’ Simmons was heard griping. ‘Now, there’s nothing. Where am I supposed to sit?’

When the girl didn’t reply promptly enough the hip-hop king, who preaches the benefit of the calming effect of his yoga prowess, angrily demanded, ‘Where’s your boss? Where’s the lady in charge? Who do I have to talk to? Come on now.’

After talking to the head seater of the show, Simmons was still not pacified, and let her have it. In the midst of the tirade the staffer asked him to ‘please calm down’ which prompted Simmons to fume ‘I am calm! I’m a calm person!’

He sounds about as calm as a knife fight.

Baby Phat Going Bankrupt?

Published by Dior Noir on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

baby-phat-fashion-show-main

It’s real in these streets for celebrity fashion lines! Last month Jennifer Lopez’s clothing line Sweetface went bankrupt and now Kimora Lee Simmon’s line Baby Phat might be headed for the same fate.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Kellwood Co. – an apparel manufacturer who’s brand’s include Baby Phat, Fabulosity, Phat Farm, Vince, and Xoxo, among others – may have to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy if they can’t come up with the money to pay a $140 million bond issue by Wednesday. Kellwood has over $500 million in debt and $800 million in annual sales and according to the report “the twin effects of a heavy debt load and a sharp drop in consumer spending have crushed the company’s financial results.”

Russell Simmons launched Phat Farm clothing in 1992, while his, then wife, model/designer Kimora Lee Simmons, started Baby Phat in 1999. Russell sold Phat Farm and Baby Phat to Kellwood in 2004 for $142 million in cash plus performance incentives (at least he cashed out before the hard times hit!) though Kimora retained her position as “principal creative arbiter” for Baby Phat.

So if it all falls down Kimora (and some 2,000 employees that Kellwood employs) might be out of a job and we may see the end of Baby Phat clothing. You mad?

Yet Another Model Girlfriend for Russell Simmons

Published by Dior Noir on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

russell-simmons

Russell Simmons sure is keeping busy in his old age! While his ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons has been laying low being a new mom, Russell has been keeping a steady rotation of girlfriends on his arm. At least he keeps it pretty consistent: the 51-year-old rap mogul, who was just dating 23-year-old grapefruit heiress/swimsuit model Julie Henderson has now moved on to a new arm piece: 29-year-old French model Noemie Lenoir (you may recognize her from the pages of Victoria’s Secret catalouges and several Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issues).

Lenoir is recently divorced from soccer player Claude Makelele;  the two have a 4-year-old son (I can already smell a Brady Bunch-style MTV reality show if her tryst with Uncle Russie actually lasts longer than a month).

The new couple was caught locking lips for all the world (and paparazzi) to see, outside of Mr. West nightclub in New York last week, verifying the previous rumors that they were an item.

I’m not really sure how this man keeps pulling all of these model chicks (four guesses: money, money, money, money), but I guess he still knows how to spot talent.
