Whoopi Goldberg isn’t one to shy away from controversy, and her daughter is turning out just like her momma.
The host of The View stopped by Andy Cohen’s clubhouse last night on Watch What Happens Live and revealed that her 39-year-old, Alex Martin, refused to join the boycott of Django Unchained merchandise and bought a set of the dolls before they were “snatched away” by censors.
Cohen, of course, wanted to know Whoopi’s personal view on the controversial slave character dolls. “I’m the wrong person to ask about stuff being inappropriate,” she replied. “We have all kinds of action figures. That’s what they are to me.”
The Bravo host then tried to push Whoopi to dish on her View co-stars, but couldn’t get an “inappropriate” response out of her on that one. When asked which one of her colleagues she would trade for one of the co-hosts from The Talk, she pleaded the Fifth, claiming she had never seen the rival talk show. When asked which of her fellow View hosts interrupts the most, or talks too much, her response?
Whoopi should know better than anyone, diplomatic answers don’t get ratings!

Over the years, Whoopi Goldberg has explained the Whoopi in her name was inspired by the fart-sounding toy, the whoopee cushion. Seems she was giving half the truth.
The Oscar-winner’s moniker was taken from a poot-producing item…that was her own patootie. “If you get a little gassy,” she explained to the Independent, “you’ve got to let it go. So people used to say to me, ‘You’re like a whoopee cushion.’”
One person who reportedly caught the wrath of her tail wind was fellow host of The View, Barbara Walters, who, after one taping, was sent “scurrying along the studio sofa in search of clean air.”
Does she at least say, excuse me?

If you’ve watched The View in recent months (and if you haven’t, don’t be throwing shade at me for doing so) then you’ve likely picked up on Whoopi Goldberg’s uh, annoyance, with the show – namely the woman in charge, Barbara Walters.
I just assumed Whoopi was getting tired of the format, but there might be something else going on between the two media legends…
Via Page Six:
Barbara Walters, a sexy septuagenarian until she turned 80 in September, has a new leading man — Frank Langella. After three marriages and many beaus, Walters took the star, who has played both Dracula and Richard Nixon, to the Literary Lions dinner at the Public Library. Plus, they were together for the weekend recently in Washington for the Kennedy Center Honors. Langella is the former love of Walter’s co-star on “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg. Walters told Page Six: “Frank and I have been friends for many years and will continue to be friends for many years, but it’s not a romance.”
If you didn’t know, Babs wrote in her book that she dated a married senator back in the day (a Black man, at that) and has been known to keep a man. I know you don’t think of Barbara like that because she seems 120, but hey, she gets it in.
Only probably — it’s not a good idea to do so with the former longtime boyfriend of your employee.

The stars dazzled at the 36th annual Daytime Emmy Awards last night and there was plenty of action from some of our favorite TV celebs! Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams hosted the night and reminded viewers of her singing chops taking to the stage to preform song and dance numbers in between awards. One of the nights big winners was Tyra Banks who accepted the honor of “Best Informative Talk Show” for The Tyra Banks Show. This is her second year in a row getting this award (get it)! I admit, when Tyra first announced her talk show plans I wasn’t sure how it would work out but she’s doing well. What do we think? Is Tyra on her way to becoming the next Oprah?
Congrats are in order for The View team, with Joy Behar, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Sherri Shepherd for “Best Talk Show Host.” Too bad none of them were actually at the Emmys to receive the award! In the past they’ve been beat out by the Ellen Degeneres Show and apparently weren’t expecting a win. Sherri, who co-hosted the Daytime Emmys last year, actually Tweeted right before the award was announced: “In hot Ft Lauderdale FL checking out the Daytime Emmys – maybe a win next year” and then updated shortly after the win “OHMYGOSH we won!” and then “The one time I decided not to go we win!” Side note: I keep seeing commercials for Sherri’s new show on Lifetime TV. Hope she finds success there too!
Kevin Clash the puppeteer/voice of Elmo accepted the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for Sesame Street. I’m obviously extremely late but I had no idea the voice of Elmo was an African-American man!
There was even more dazzle from the red carpet:
Wendy Williams put her girls on display in a mint floor length gown with pockets. Of course her look wouldn’t be complete without a Rapunzel lacefront but this is one of her better looks I’ve seen!
Tatyana Ali made a sparkling appearance in a curve-hugging metallic halter gown.
Remember “Little Ricky” from Family Matters? Well actor Bryton McClure is all grown up and acting on the Young & The Restless now. He was nominated for Best Young Actor.
Young & The Restless actresses Victoria Rowell and Tonya Lewis Lee who play sisters on the show each rocked the red carpet in attention grabbing looks.
What a night!
