Fab or Fail? Ciara’s Furry Boots, Rihanna’s Leather Jeans, Kerry W’s Matchy-Matchy

January 11th, 2011

You be the judge.

Playing it safe can get boring, so I salute celebs for testing out new styles that the average woman may not pick up and breaking “fashion rules;” but what do we think of these looks?

Ciara kicked it courtside at the Lakers vs. Knicks game in LA wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin Toundra Fur Boots ($1,269). The furry footwear has coyote trim with double straps and a wooden heel. Coyote ugly? Or cute?

Last week Rihanna was out shopping at Fred Segal with her BFF Melissa in a pair of R13 Denim Leather Chap Jeans ($620) that almost look like daisy dukes worn with leather leggings. Interesting concept especially for day wear but Rihanna can pretty much pull off anything. Would you wear these?

Kerry Washington usually keeps it conservative on the red carpet but last night she had the blues at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in a splashy print Alberto Makali mini and bow-detailed peep-toe booties. The electric blue color of the shoes are a bit heavy with the dress and normally I’m not a fan of such a matchy-matchy ensemble (she even finished it off with blue eyeshadow), but she is wearing the heck out of that mini.

On the Scene: ‘For Colored Girls’ New York Premiere

October 26th, 2010

Beauty defined.

Last night’s New York premiere of Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls” at the Ziegfeld Theater was a breathtakingly beautiful sight to behold. An amazing roster of entertainers were in attendance, including the movie’s stars Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, Phylicia Rashad, Macy Gray, Tessa Thompson and of course, the woman who made it all possible: the legendary Ntozake Shange, who wrote the original play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.”  And that’s just naming a few of the gorgeous women who sashayed down the red carpet!

See some of my favorite outfits and what the ladies had to say about their style. Then be sure to check out our complete Red Carpet Rundown to see the full scope of the fabulousness from the night!

Ciara celebrated her birthday night at the premiere and made a splash in Loraine Schwartz jewelry (including some fabulous pink diamond bangles!) and Christian Louboutin heels. “I could’ve worn pumps with this dress, but we wanted to make it a little more young and fun,” she said about her leopard booties. After seeing the shoes, I had to ask about her $11,000/month shoe spending habit! “It’s true sometimes,” she said. “I actually reversed it and it’s kind of embarrassing to share, but on a past shopping experience I had, I spent $13,000 on clothes. It’s a little ridiculous but I need the clothes to go with all my shoes!” OK big spender! Shoes are still her first love. “I feel like my outfit is nothing without my shoes. I have a shoe fetish.”

Estelle, who appears on the movie’s soundtrack, wore a mix of designers including Preen leather pants (I die!), an Alexander McQueen jacket, and Giuseppe Zanotti heels. “I picked the pants and then the shoes and thought, you know. I need some color,” she said about creating this chic and playful outfit.

The flawless Kerry Washington swept down the carpet in a Missoni dress and Armani bag. Her tip for staying gorgeous: getting plenty of beauty rest. “The more rest we have, the better we feel, and if you feel beautiful, you’ll look beautiful.”

BET Rising Icon Laura Izibor sang her way onto two songs on the movie’s soundtrack–a job she nailed over other industry heavy-hitters.  The Dublin-born singer also stood out on the carpet  in a sexy one-shoulder mini and a sleek updo–a break from her usual curls.  “These days as a girl it’s so easy to stick to your greys and your blacks but I had to do red!” she said “I’ve been loving color these past few weeks.”

The “Adorable Award” of the night goes to 5-year-old Jaycee Williams who plays Kimberly Else’s daughter in the film. This little cutie put down the chain-detailed bag she was rocking just to show off the personalized Breast Cancer Awareness shirt that she wore with leggings and a jean jacket. “I like to dress up!” she said. She even accessorized with a Chanel logo barrette and earrings.  Aww!

Double Take: Ciara and Halle Berry in Helmut Lang

October 18th, 2010

Who wore it better?

Ciara is a girl after my own heart. When she wasn’t out partying this weekend at Black Girls Rock or her girl Kim Kardashian’s 30th birthday party and TAO night club in New York, she made sure to get in some retail therapy and hit the streets of West Hollywood where she was spotted at Intermix.

The singer glammed up in some fierce Christian Louboutin boots, black pants and the Helmut Lang Shearling Collar Jacket ($1,140) that we swore we’ve seen on another celeb before:

Sure enough, Halle Berry wore the jacket on a night out at Nuela restaurant in New York (Oct. 4).

Halle also wore Christian Louboutin boots but opted for sexy leather boots and a black purse.

This is a toughie because the styling looks very similar but I love Ciara’s addition of aviator shades and the necklace.

Who do you think wore it better?

Ciara Really Loves Her Alexander Wang ‘Freja’ Boots

August 24th, 2010

Do you?

For someone who admitted to spending $11,000 per month on shoes, at least Ciara’s trying to get the most bang for her buck with her new pricey pairs.  The Gimmie Dat songstress has fallen in love with the Alexander Wang ‘Freja’  boot.

Part G.I. Jane part Fashionista,  Ciara wore the edgy boots with a camo skirt and graphic tee at Power 105’s Power Live concert at Governer’s Island in New York this past weekend.

She also wore them out and about in New York with jean shorts and an over-sized Chanel tee.

The leather lace-ups are a longer length version of the same boot that Rihanna has been seen in earlier this spring, which cut off right around the zipper detailed flap.  The knee-grazing version is a little more bad girl with the laces. You like? CiCi’s boots will run you $1,095 and if you want to splurge you can snag them here.

Ciara Changed Her Mind: New ‘Gimmie Dat’ Cover Art

August 17th, 2010

An upgrade?

Ciara has unveiled the cover for her latest single “Gimmie Dat“…again. The R&B singer recently Tweeted: “Hey guys! I know I sent u a single cover 4 Gimmie Dat already, however I got inspired & decided to change it to this!”

The new artwork was shot by photographers Gomillion and Leupold who did Brandy’s latest photo shoot for 160 Grams magazine and features a screaming Cici, mid jump in the rain. She’s scantly clad in what looks like a bikini, mesh top and rugged boots.  Hmmm I wonder what exactly inspired that?

In the first version she’s wearing a fitted, cargo pants, sneakers and a belly-bearing T. The outfit gives off a sexy tomboy swag that’s sexy without trying so hard.

“Gimme Dat” is a up-tempo, bass thumping beat that will be on Ciara’s upcoming album Basic Instinct. The first album cover is actually a bit sleepy for the track, but I still think I like that picture better!

Which one are you feeling the most?

Ciara and Ne-Yo Have a Fashion Face-off in Ebony Magazine

August 10th, 2010

Ciara and Ne-Yo went head to head in a fashion shoot and interview for Ebony’s September issue. The magazine calls it ”the sexiest face-off we’ve ever seen.” You be the judge of that as you take a look at some of the scans from the spread. They both look like they’re channeling Janet and Michael Jackson  don’t they?

Really Ne-Yo, that side eye? Relax! It’s just fashion.

Love the space-age shades! She’s wearing Main Frame, his are Maison Martin Margiela. Her Temperley lion’s head belt is pretty fly too, great addition to spice up her LBD.

Ne-Yo played a modern gentleman in this Dolce & Gabbanna and Prada outfit.

That quote made me laugh. Ci-Ci better stop spending $11, 000 a month on shoes  if she wants to accomplish that goal!

Cute shoot, but I feel like I’ve seen these two wear these same looks and styles over and over again. It would’ve been nice to see them switch it up for once!

What do you think of the spread?

Congrats Lala (and Carmelo)!

July 12th, 2010

Here comes the bride…

Over the weekend Lala Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony–who have been engaged since 2004– finally tied the knot in New York! The bride wore a Vera Wang gown and according to People magazine, the rest of her wedding-day details were equally fab. The couple had a red-themed celebration featuring red table cloths, centerpieces of red Ecuadorian roses, hundreds of candles and thousands of red roses hanging from the high ceiling, and a five-tiered white cake that was decorated with red flowers.

The July 10th wedding was filmed for an upcoming VH1 reality show, but in real-time over 300 guests–including Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Trina, Serena Williams, LeBron James, and the couple’s 3-year-old son Kiyan–came to see them exchange vows.

It looks like the couple enjoyed it all! What could be better than any accessory? A genuinely happy glow.

Ciara’s Addicted!

July 9th, 2010

Must be nice…

Ciara’s got a serious shoe addiction! The Ride singer told Pride magazine that she spends “about $11,000 a month” on shoes and owns “maybe a thousand pairs.” Since entertainers are normally gifted or loaned designer clothes and accessories, I’m going to guess girlfriend has a serious fetish if she’s shelling out that kind of money a month! Reminds me of a Sex and the City “Carrie” quotable: “I like my money right where I can see it: in my closet.”

Ciara stepped out in $1,725 VersaceMedallion metal platform sandals at Maxium’s 11th Annual Hot Party.

“When I go shopping, my most extravagant purchases are normally going to be shoes,” Ciara told Pride. “I just love shoes and go for what’s hot. I like everything from Louboutin and Dr Martens to Versace and Fendi.” And the ATL shawty doesn’t think her habit is out of control: “A person should always be able to afford to buy extravagant shoes,” she says. “It depends on the items, but, on an average shopping trip I probably spend a minimum of $1,200. It’s not that bad! On average, I will spend about $11,000 a month [on shoes].”

Hopefully she’s throwing at least that much in the bank for savings too, I mean it is still a recession and albums aren’t selling the way they used to! Ciara’s hefty monthly bill probably doesn’t even get her a dozen pairs of shoes considering the brands she’s talking about is. Is her shoe splurging fly or just crazy?

BET Awards: Wow Ciara!

June 27th, 2010

It’s a lot of look, but if anyone could pull off this embellished mini from Balmain’s Fall 2010 collection it’s Ciara who’s not afraid to Ride with something edgy. Ci-ci was incredibly fly in this sexy dress that she wore with ankle boots and belt just like it appeared on the runway.

I don’t know whether to love or hate the sleeve tasseled and the belt, but overall she looks great! Ciara, who presented El Debarge during the show also styled on the crowd when she changed into a sweetheart red mini to hit the stage. Work!

Ciara’s Bachelorette Bash Dress: a Denim Do or Don’t?

June 21st, 2010

…something blue.

Count down to Carmelo Anthony and La La Vazquez’swedding and the bride-to-be’s friends are making sure she has a good time before she walks down that isle in  July. Over the weekend Ciarahelped keep the party going by throwing Lala’s fourth bachelorette party in Miami Beach. The girls started the night with dinner at  Prime One Twelve steakhouse and continued at the opening of LUX nightclub on South Beach, where they danced the night away in body con dresses.

Lala looked cute in her color block dress, but Ciara’s dress really stood out.    Cici wore a The House of Holland x Levi’s denim buckle dress from the Spring 2010 collection which also includes jeans, tops and skirts in similar styles. Denim topped the trends list for this spring and designers got a lot more creative with the material than your average jeans.

House of Holland Denim Buckle Dress, $310;

A do? Or don’t?
