They’re winners in our book.
Not one of the nominees for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards was a Black actor or actress, but at least presenters Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson and Oprah turned the night out in their stunning gowns.
Does Halle Berry ever have an off moment at an award show? She could wear a potato sack and still look amazing, but she swept down the red carpet in a gorgeous embellished Marchesa gown.
The only thing that’s killing me about her look is the bottom of this dress. I’m not sure if it was the way she walked that bunched up the tulle in the very front or if it’s gathered that way to show off the beading at the bottom, but that effect makes the detail look a curtain that was thrown on as an after thought. I wish it pulled down a little more because the train is fabulous. Hopefully that’s just the picture.
Jennifer Hudson continued to remind us all that Weight Watchers has done her body good and wore a plunging, tangerine 2008 Spring Versace gown blinged out with Neil Lane diamond earrings and bracelets. She looked amazing; a huge improvement from the Oscar de la Renta dress and space-agey python bolero she wore to her first Oscar appearance.
Now some people are getting on her for pairing purple Versace heels with the bright dress, but I actually loved the color contrast:
What I couldn’t get into was her hair which was fashioned in a pin curl, around-the-way ponytail.
A halter gown begs for a up-do, but a simpler one would’ve been much more sophisticated with this ensemble.
Oprah shimmered in a satin and beaded Zac Posen gown to present the Best Documentary Award. The off-the-shoulder, 3/4 sleeve, full skirt silhouette seems to be one of her favorites and the style always makes her look striking and regal.

Who wore it better?
Ciara is a girl after my own heart. When she wasn’t out partying this weekend at Black Girls Rock or her girl Kim Kardashian’s 30th birthday party and TAO night club in New York, she made sure to get in some retail therapy and hit the streets of West Hollywood where she was spotted at Intermix.
The singer glammed up in some fierce Christian Louboutin boots, black pants and the Helmut Lang Shearling Collar Jacket ($1,140) that we swore we’ve seen on another celeb before:
Sure enough, Halle Berry wore the jacket on a night out at Nuela restaurant in New York (Oct. 4).
Halle also wore Christian Louboutin boots but opted for sexy leather boots and a black purse.
This is a toughie because the styling looks very similar but I love Ciara’s addition of aviator shades and the necklace.
Who do you think wore it better?

September just got more gorgeous!
It’s been years since Halle Berry has done an interview or shoot for a magazine and although she told her publicist “I’m not going to talk any more. I’m just going to live my life and be who I am” when Vogue came knocking and asked the Oscar-winning beauty to grace the cover of its September Issue, she couldn’t resist. “What that means for a woman of colour and what that means in the fashion world, what that means to pop culture….there was no way I could say, ‘No I’m not going to be on the biggest issue of the year’,” she said. Halle is the first Black woman to grace the cover of the iconic issue since Naomi Campbell in 1989.
In an accompanying article, Halle is as sassy as she looks in the cover shoot (get it hair!) as she talks about breaking up with her boyfriend Gabriel Aubry and her daughter Nahla amongst other topics. One random fashion revelation: Halle loves to be in the buff! “If the world wouldn’t persecute me, I’d take nude pictures every day of the week,” she said. There’s a lot of people who would be just fine with that! But she looked amazing–fully clothed–in beautiful gowns like the Giorgio Armani black velvet cocktail dress below.
The Oscar-winning actress also shared that she’ll be shooting a film , Shoe Addicts Anonymous, which she describes the The First Wives Club—but about shoes. “Shoes are sort of a metaphor for these women all coming together and dealing with who they are—in their 30s and 40s.” Halle + fab shoes? We die! Take a look at the heels she’s wearing underneath the Escada dress below!
Ms. Bery is picture perfect in this Vera Wang amber draped velvet corset top and skirt and Lorraine Schwartz diamond-and-black jade earrings. How has she managed to look practically the same as when she first started her career?

These LA-made sweet Tess are a fat-free indulgence!
I haven’t worn a message tee since phrases like “Talk to the Hand” were popular to get offon your chest, but lately a newer line Wildfox Couture is making this revolving-door trend look fresh again. Inspired by “sleepovers, beautiful books, fairies, dreams, vintage t-shirts and their friendship” young designers Kimberley Gordon and Emily Faulstich started the brand in 2006 and quickly gained a following for their T-shirts that they say are “for every person, soft, baggy, bright and fun.”
Marie Antoinette ripped rock tee, available Fall 2010.
Beyonce is a fan of the shirts that feature flirty phrases like “Let me Eat Cake,” a version she wore on a New York date with her hubby Jay-Z and “Je T’aime” the declaration on a frothy tank that completed her hipster look at the Coachella music festival.
Ice Cream Love Mega Babe Tank, $55; buy it now!
Celebs like Halle Berry, Melanie Brown, Christina Aguliera are also scoping up the tees in versions that feature strong graphics like skelatal ribs and smiling vampire faces. Browse the entire collection (which also includes lounge pants, leggings and dresses) at wildfoxcouture.com.
Are you feeling it?

I love that she shops at Target.
Hat aside – She’s so cute.
It’s nice to see celeb’s cutting back on spending. Or is that even scarier??

God, please let me look like I’m 20-something when I’m in my forties. Amen.
Halle Berry is gorgeous! And I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look anything less than fabulous, until now. I like both of Halle’s pieces, but they don’t belong together.
If the cut of the skirt was high-waisted instead of a drop waist that makes you look like you have a tummy, I would be a fan. Looks like a pre-baby purchase…
Sidebar: I so need to get pregnant so I can have boobs like that.
