‘Ye pulls a Jekyll and Hyde in a biker jacket.
Kanye West has been rocking red clothing hard lately, and he’s really gravitated to a zipper and chain detailed Balmain Perfecto jacket. The fashionisto packed his new favorite biker leather for Paris Fashion Week and wore it to the Balmain Ready-to-Wear Autumn/Winter 2011 runway show earlier today.
‘Ye wore a simple grey T-shirt with black pants and accessorized his outfit with Oliver Peoples “Daddy B” sunglasses, a chain, gold bracelet and a…*gasp* smile. Aww!
That’s a far improvement from the last time we saw him wearing the jacket in a picture he was snapped in with Jeremy Scott at the designer’s presentation during New York’s Fall 2011 Fashion Week last month:
In New York, the rapper layered up with a green Balmain hoodie and wore a black Actual Pain Pyramid Logo snap back hat, vintage Cartier sunglasses and an ice grill (say hello to the birdie).
Very similar outfits, but he looks a lot better in France and not just because I like those Oliver People’s more. It’s because a smile is one of the rarest things Kanye ever wears and it’s a good look for him! The man looked genuinely happy to be alive and that alone deserves it’s own moment since he’s normally giving the cameras a mean mug.
We may see Kanye in Balmain even more in the coming months. Rumor has it he’s tapped the line’s designer Christophe Decarnin to create costumes for his next tour. Decarnin will reportedly “custom-remake a portion of the Balmain fall ‘10 collection, specifically seventies-centric pantsuits, cutaway coats, and gilded jeans.”

The other day my friend sent me an email with a picture of Kanye West and a message that said: “I kind of want his blouse. I’m dead serious! I’d take that ring too.” It made me chuckle but also think about how much Kanye’s style has evolved in a few blinks of an eye: backpacks and preppy sweaters gave way to funky futuristic designs (I still have those “Graduation” glasses around my apartment somewhere, I’m sure some of you do too!) and this year he’s polished up in more tailored styles, and yes even shirt designs that make my girlfriends want to shop his closet.
Kanye covers the December 2010 issue of I-D magazine’s “Back to the Future” issue and talked about his latest style sensibility and explains he’s more than just a guy who likes to rock fly clothes, he’s trying to be a serious “student” of fashion.
“I’m trying to learn more and more about dressing and the importance of looking nice because I do get photographed and I am so influential. So I’m trying to be my own visual guide. I’ve dedicated so much of my time trying to do–quote unquote–”my own clothing line.” I needed to realize in this lifetime I’d never be Martin Margiela. People who wear Margiela, Dres Von Noten and Alexander McQueen will never wear a piece of clothing a rapper designed because of the heritage behind it.“
Interesting thought! Still, the rapper, who has already designed his own high-end trainers for Nike and Louis Vuitton, is working on a loafer line. But instead of just slapping his name on mediocre designs like some celebs (we won’t call out any names), Kanye is legitimately seeking to build his fashion resume.
“After the MTV thing I moved to Japan for three weeks, stayed in a hotel and worked on designs just to stay out of the way of paparazzi. Then I moved to Rome and I interned at Fendi for five months. At weekends I’d take time off and go to Stockholm and meet up with Jonny from ACNE or go and see Guiseppe Zanotti in Italy and work in factories with him. The summer before that I was working on a capsule collection with Gap, and I went to Korea to work on shoes and went to lots of different shows to show I’m into the designs. I’ll go to a show for a really unpopular designer, but it’s not a media ploy; I need to see this thing first-hand.”
In addition to designers, Kanye looks to Michael Jackson and Princess Diana, who he considers style icons. “Both had it figured out as far as their place in life, how they represented themselves, what they could wear, what they could push, what they could influence,” he said.

No, really, I almost forgot about Kanye West ’s most recent ex because he and Selita Ebanks look so amazing together!
The model and the rapper (surprise, surprise on that pairing), were dressed to the nines last night at the Grazia Masquerade Ball at Opera Garnier in Paris. They attended the fete after Kanye screened his 40-minute “Runaway” short film–that stars Selita–at the Max Linder Panorama.
Selita donned a mustard colored dress that looked beautiful contrasted with a red bag and lips and put her best foot forward in a $1,190 pair of Givenchy Calf Hair Ankle Booties. The Louis Vuitton Don is still on his dapper suit flow.
These two were also seen together at the U.S. Open in September where they looked perfectly polished while watching the action in the stands. Kan “Christian Dior Denim Flow.”
I kind of love the way they look as a pair, but while Kanye showed her some love by dropping her name amongst other models in his new song “Christian Dior Denim Flow” when it comes to a romantic connection, Selita told Starpulse ”No, no, no.”
“I’m just happy that he’s a great friend,” she said. “I love his creativity. I love that he thinks outside the box. He’s just himself. Not only am I a fan, I support him 100 per cent.”
She can call the relationship whatever she wants, but style-wise, I call it a perfect match.

It’s a bestie face-off!
Birds of a feather flock together so it’s not surprising to see that BFFs Lala Vazquez and Kim Kardashian own the same shirt. As many times as they’ve been snapped shopping together they might’ve just fell for this silk Helmut Lang cowl-neck top at the same time!
The reality star summerized an ivory version of the blouse at InStye’s annual Super Saturday event in the Hamptons and paired it with a coral draped skirt, waist-cinching belt and peep-toe Christian Louboutin ”Madame Butterfly” heels.
Meanwhile, the newlywed arrived at the Cipriani Hotel in NYC right before she wed hubby Carmelo Anthony and mixed her grey top with menswear. An over-sized blazer, leggings and studded Christian Louboutin “Rollerball” loafers (Kanye has these shoes too!) completed her look.
Who wore it better?

Diamonds are forever…
Kanye West has been relatively quiet for the last several months but ever since he got back on Twitter on July 28, he’s been posting some hilarious material. Many of Ye’s messages remind us that while the Grammy-winner has taken a break he hasn’t stopped feeling himself:
@KanyeWest: “ I think Twitter was designed specifically with me in mind just my humble opinion hahhhahaaaahaaa humble hahahahhahaahaaaa.”
But between the ego, we’ve also been reminded that Kanye has some pretty good taste as illustrated by the hot finds he’s been musing about (YSL suits, Dres Van Noten shoes and Rolexes, oh my!) and home décor he’s been obsessed with lately:
@KanyeWest:“I specifically ordered persian rugs with cherub imagery!!! What do I have to do to get a simple persian rug with cherub imagery uuuuugh.” (HA! Can’t you just imagine him having a tantrum over this?)
But one of my favorite style posts from the Louis Vuitton Don came over the weekend right before he claimed “Clothes are my drug.” Check out his latest accessory:
Yes, papa’s got a brand new grill—diamond teeth implants—that he mused about then posted a picture of just to show you how he stays icy.
@KanyeWest: “No seriously … I said my teeth are real diamonds… these are not fronts… I replaced my bottom row of teeth with diamonds,” he Tweeted when fans doubted if the new bottom rack was real. @KanyeWest: “Teeth real diamonds… what’s the cause of the frontin’.”
Real or fake are you feeling Kanye’s new bling?

Ugh. Why can’t I go to Paris and just hang out and dress up with my man?
I love that she’s more of a diva than even Kanye.
She completely puts Ye to shame. Amber Rose, you are fierce.
Nice pink sweater Kanye.
The girl looks like a million bucks and she’s fun to look at.
She’s one of those people who wears her hairstyle so well that it makes you start wondering, “I wonder if I could…?” The answer is probably not. But I will try looking that fierce in a fancier version of an elderly woman’s eyeglass chain.
I want that jacket and skirt combo, too. A pencil skirt and a waist-length, belted jacket will bring out the curves on any body.
Matter of fact, I’d take both of their outfits. One for dinner and drinks, and the other for running errands.

I ain’t sayin she’s a gold digger …
Amber Rose is so refreshingly different and edgy and beautiful. Especially the buzz cut, given how most gals are about weaves and wigs and such.
I love her glasses. I love her heels. I love her look.
Well, almost …

I don’t know whether to clown him, pitty him, envy him, or try and steal a sip of his creative juices.
Only Kanye West could work the hell out of this roadkill wrapped around his neck. Personally, I think it’s a weird addition to an otherwise dapper outfit, but I feel you.
This is the good life.
I still have a lot of love for Kanye despite his vanity because this man’s cockiness is endearing to me. It must be that he backs it up with quality. I love his style, musically and fashion-wise.
