The Midas touch?
Keri Hilson keeps trying to think out of the box with her style choices lately and she certainly stood out on the red carpet at the 16th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in LA this past weekend in some unique heels. Her custom-made footwear designed by Alana Hale from La Maison de Fashion boutique was undoubtedly an attempt to jazz up her LBD created by Australian designer Aurelio Costarella, but did they work?
I love the dress, but the shoes….? The doily-esqe lace and addition of the pearls make these look a little “home ec project” to me. At least one thing’s for sure: we won’t be seeing a “Double Take” with these.
What do you think of the heels: fab or fail?

The latest hot celeb magazine spreads and covers.
We can’t get enough of these ladies, and all their style antics, and this month they’re all over the newsstands, yet again.
Keri Hilson’s pretty girl rocking on the cover of the December/January issue of VIBE. She’s giving me Madonna in this Jean Paul Gaultier-esqe bustier (viva la cones!), chains and leather cap.
Keri has been on a promotional whirlwind in support of her new album No Boys Allowed, which is due out December 21. Every time she pops up she’s doing something different with her look. Love the versatility.
Across the pond, Rihanna’s sexing things up for British GQ’s January 2011 issue. There aren’t many clothes going on in the shoot (surprise, surprise) and she fully acknowledges that in the issue.”Girls don’t like to see other girls dressed sexy. I get that,” she said. ”People see my ass out and my boobs out, so it can get a little irritating.”
Nicki Minaj is larger than life in the December/January issue of Ebony in a 6-page feature shot by Derek Blanks (who does those celebrity alter-ego shoots I can’t get enough of).
Cool concept. Click here to see how she “took over New York” in Ebony’s behind the scenes footage from the shoot.

Miss Keri, baby!
After making an appearance on 106 & Park’s live 10th Anniversary show in New York, Keri Hilson rushed over to the Museum of Modern Art just in time to attend a screening of ”Fair Game,” hosted by Giorgio Armani & The Cinema Society. I’m not sure how she went from hanging with Terrence and Rocsi in a casually cool outfit to getting all glammed up in Armani in such a short period of time (especially after she told me she did a rush change in BET’s offices!), but that’s one thing that Keri does best: transform her style while making it look effortless.
Before she made another outfit change or mad dash to another party, I caught up with the fashion-forward singer to talk her fall favorites, style evolution and fashion influences.

How do you decide what to wear for red carpet events? I dress for my mood and how clothes make me feel. For the screening, I fitted for Armani yesterday and I tried on a bunch of dresses but I loved this one when I put it on. It feels like ’80s prom and my hair is kind of inspired by that whole era. For 106 & Park I went a different direction and wore this Jeremy Scott track jacket because I felt so cute in it. It’s like a dressed up version of the Adidas jackets.
You’ve been wearing a lot of leopard print lately. What other fall trends are on your radar? I have, I love animal print! I didn’t even realize it was a trend; my nails were already leopard for an album shoot. I’ve always loved everything that feels vintage, so I’m glad leopard print is coming back. Right now I’m also all about wearing men’s cardigans. I just went to G-Star and headed straight to the men’s section to get some cardigans. Men’s cardigans are long enough to make them sexy with jean leggings. I’m also a hat girl. Not really fedoras but I love a ‘smoker’s cap.’ I think I collect more of those and beanies than anything.

What inspires your style? I get inspired by the most random things. Right now I’m looking at these paintings [in the MoMA] and thinking, ‘wow I haven’t seen solid colors done so well in a long time.’ When people ask what people inspire my style I always say my mom, but I’ll be more specific and say anyone who exudes the vintage feel. I love, love, love everything about ’70s fashion and ’80s fashion. Back then everyone wanted to look tall with high waists and other designs and since I’m tall I gravitate to that.
You took style risks in some of the promo shots for your new album, ‘No Boys Allowed.’ How has your look transformed from your first album? I think I’m a little less safe style-wise. It was time for that but also it’s just how I’m feeling. You get tired of wearing the same humdrum thing on the red carpets.
One of the biggest changes to your look has been your new blonde hair. Any plans to dye it back? I don’t really see me switching it up any time soon. It’s just how I’m feeling right now. I like to have fun and be comfortable with how I look; I might change my mind with styles but I always stick to that.

Keri definitely had a blonde moment with this one…
Keri Hilson released her first single, “Breaking Point,” the official lead single from her upcoming new album ‘No Boys Allowed.’ Keri has said that this album will be a ”woman empowerment record” (I’m having Beyonce déjà vu with that statement) and when I saw these pictures I thought the song would go hard. It’s a bit slower which really has me scratching my head on these promo pictures that were sent out with the track yesterday.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still feeling Keri’s hair, but this outfit? Huh? I usually love, love, love her style but I don’t even know if it’s valid to use that word when describing this. Overall, big miss.
There are some cute elements here: the lace up boots? Totally a hot item for this fall and you’ll see wearing them with socks is a trendy spin too, although shorter socks will have you looking more fashion forward and less Clueless. I’m also feeling her knuckle duster rings (have you tried those out yet?).
The second picture is cute enough and style-wise I love the highlight of the watch–a current accessory obsession (does anyone use those things to really tell the time anymore though?).
I really hope she hasn’t reached her style breaking point. Come back to us Keri!
Are you feeling the promo pics?

Get inspired to dress up this summer staple!
In the sea of celebs at this weeks “Takers” premiere Keri Hilson stood out in a fab pair of 3.1 Phillip Lim wool-blend gromet shorts. These bottoms could’ve easily been worn in a daytime look, but Keri mixed the shorts with a plunging black jacket with bold shoulders, a chunky belk, nude heel and dazzling Daniel Swarovski drop earrings (love!) to perfectly morph them into a sexy night outfit.

Dressy shorts are one of my favorite trends from this summer! Do you think Keri nailed it?

There are more ways to rock leopard print this season, with brands like Dolce & Gabbana adding splashes of color to the classic print. Keri Hilson has been loving the wild style lately: just a few weeks after she showed up at the BET Awards in a vintage Bill Blass dress, she was spotted in New Orleans during the 2010 Essence Music Festival in a blue bustier Dolce & Gabbana mini.
Of course, with her newly died blonde locks, Miss Kerri Baby has drawn comparisons to Rihanna, even though Rhi’s a red head these days. Rihanna rocked a feisty two toned Dolce & Gabbana leopard print dress in Dublin back in May.
Sure they have similar hair, shoes and dress print, but…
Who looked better?

Legs, super sexy and new hair.
Look who treated herself to Gucci’s Fall booties? Lucky gal. Keri Hilson rocks her studded attention-getters with a cleavage-baring, figure-hugging mini dress.

What’s not to like?
Fall is closing in on us, and here are four pictures why I’m ecstatic about it.
Besides the fact we here that Keri’s album may be the best R&B album this year, and I can’t wait … Fall brings fly outerwear.
