Naomi Campbell was among the twelve leading figures of the British Fashion industry honored at the 2010 British Fashion Awards, Dec. 7, at the swanky Savoy Hotel and Theatre in London. The iconic supermodel was awarded a new “Special Recognition Award” (yes, when you’re Naomi they make up awards for you) in recognition of her influence on the fashion industry over the past 25 years.
The awards ceremony also honored the Naomi’s late friend, designer Alexander McQueen and the model sent her own nod to the designer by wearing a breathtaking Alexander McQueen gown, custom designed by the label’s new designer Sarah Burton. In her acceptance speech Naomi thanked Brown for making her not one, but two options for the night (smart woman! Nobody wants to make this icon unhappy).
The model got choked up while getting through the rest of her speech: ”Sorry I just got all teary, it’s just overwhelming to be recognised in your own country, it’s a huge privilege and it makes me feel very proud to be British,” she said. “Women of colour are now far better represented – we still have a long way to go, but I’m very proud.”

Naomi Campbell can’t be stopped. She’s celebrating 25 years in the business and she’s still hot! The supermodel graces the cover of two different October Issues: Interview and Russian GQ.
In Interview she posed for a gruesome shoot styled by Karl Templer and shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Have you seen the movie Saw? Yeah, the scene almost looks like it was set there but the provocative photos totally play into Naomi’s whole bad-girl reputation. Check them out, along with snippets from her interview.
On being a role model: “I make many mistakes. Many mistakes. So I always get nervous when people speak about something that sounds like a role model, because I don’t know if I’ve been a great role model myself. I don’t think I have in certain aspects of my life.”
On her industry friends looking out for her: “There were certain designers who hadn’t used models of color in their shows, and Christy [Turlington] and Linda [Evangelista] said to them, ‘If you don’t take Naomi, then you don’t get us.’ My friends and comrades stuck up for me. That doesn’t happen in fashion.”
On regrets: “I’m not going to wallow in self-pity and not live my life. There are always going to be some falls in life for everybody, no matter what career you have. You have to roll with the punches and keep going.”
On Naomi’s cover for Russian GQ she gets familiar with a snake. Great shot, too bad it was already used in a previous issue of Russian Vogue. Times must be hard if the magazine couldn’t afford to get a new cover shot!

She’s too sexy for her shirt…
Naomi Campbell has been ruling the catwalk for 25 years and to celebrate the infamous supermodel, Dolce & Gabbana is creating a line of T-shirts with her face splashed across it. The Italian duo will offer 14 limited-edition collection T-shirts that each feature a classic shot of Naomi taken by a famed fashion photographer. Naomi, Iman and Liya…oh my!
Essence is turning the big 4-0 and to celebrate the magazine is putting out a ”collectors edition” issue in September that features Naomi Campbell , Iman and Liya Kebede. The iconic modes grace the cover as representatives of the mag’s “40 Fierce & Fabulous Women who are Changing the World.”
What do you think of the styling?
In addition to the cover image, all eyes will undoubtedly be on the fashion pages in this issue after the recent controversy that brewed when the magazine announced it hired its first white Fashion Director.
In related news: yesterday Iman celebrated the Essence anniversary at the New York Stock Exchange. The model got posh in tailored dress from the Victoria Beckham Fall 2010 collection to ring the closing bell with staff from the magazine.

Even supermodels have bad hair days…
Yesterday Naomi Campbell worked it at a Mobil gas station in the Meatpacking District in New York Dennis Basso fall/winter 2010 campaign shoot. She looked hot and not just because it was 90 degrees outside and she was rocking fur (so much for her 90’s PETA ad where she declared she’d “rather go naked than wear fur”). Even at 40 years old Naomi still got it….well, almost all of it.
The supermodel shocked onlookers when she flipped back her hair so that stylists could fix her clothes and serious hair loss was revealed.
Years of weaves and over-processing have certainly taken their toll on Naomi’s hair. While wigs and weaves can be great accessories just like a necklace or bag, it’s interesting that so many entertainers–including Amber Rose, Solange, Janet, and Chrisette Michele–have chosen to given up their long synthetic locks for closely shaved, natural hair. I bet Naomi could work that too!
The supermodel has been the face of Basso since last year. Her new ad campaign will debut in September.

Sports just got more stylish!
Soccer? Not the first activity that brings Naomi Campbell out, but add a little Louis Vuitton and now we’re talking. The luxury fashion house has created a stylish new traveling case for the World Cup trophy and the model jetted out to Paris to present it.
Naomi wore a taupe houndstooth Chanel dress for the occasion and slipped on black gloves to put a replica of the coveted cup into its new decadent case (only the winners of the coveted cup can actually touch it). The model frequently carries the monogram bags and has done several charity events with the brand, but she’s never seen a case like this! The custom-designed leather travel trunk was hand-crafted over 100 hours at Louis Vuitton’s workshop in Asnieres, just outside Paris, and replaces a metal armored suitcase that was used to carry the trophy in the past. “There was no reason why security couldn’t be synonymous with elegance,” a spokesperson for Louis Vuitton told reporters at the unveiling.
Gotta love a trophy that comes with its own accessories!
The trophy is set to leave for Johannesburg in its new luxury home this week for the beginning of the World Cup on June 11th.
Do you think the Louis Vuitton World Cup trophy case fly or just excessive?

Très magnifique! Naomi does casual chic in the South of France.
Naomi Campbell has been living it up at the Cannes Film Festival with her billionaire boyfriend and yesterday the glamazon was snapped on her way to board a yacht at the five-stars luxury hotel Eden Roc in Antibes, France. Must be nice! So what does one wear for a gorgeous day on the French Riviera? The supermodel paired a classic French staple–the striped shirt–with distressed AG Adriano Goldschmied jeans, floral sandals, a Louis Vuitton bag, and over-sized shades.
The nautical trend mixes an easy color scheme of red, navy and black in breathable fabrics like cotton or linen that can be paired with crisp whites and denim. If you like the way Naomi did it, get on board with these picks inspired by her look!
Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Fade’ Oversized Sunglasses in Havana, $85; nordstrom.com
(You probably have your own fly shades, but if your collection needs a refresh try these.)
BDG 3/4 Sleeve Nautical Tee, $28; at urbanoutfitters.com.
(This slightly sheer striped version would also work well with a flirty white skirt!)
Kelsi Dagger Monaco sandals, $85; at piperlime.com.
(A slight remix to Naomi’s flirty flip-flops, but you can wear this pair, that also comes in nude, with jeans or your favorite spring dress)
Have a lovely weekend! Stay fly!

Who was best dressed? VOTE!
Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige and even Grace Jones were among the stars on the guest list at last nights amFAR’s charity gala at the Hotel du Cap in Antibes, France. Flowing gowns were the staple at the fete, which is annually one of the most glamorous events during the Cannes Film Festival, and pastels, sequins and feathers were popular touches this year. The best part of the night–besides the fashion–was that celebs raised $6.7 million for AIDS research!
Jennifer Lopez’s whimsical chiffon and feather Roberto Cavalli Couture frock with Chopard jewels was like something out of a fairy tale.
Mary J. Blige, who arrived in a sequined Gucci gown, rocked the party with a performance during the night.
Naomi Campbell looked like a million bucks in L’Wren Scott (and accessorized with her billionaire boyfriend, who also attended, on her arm).
Grace Jones stepped out in this two-toned satin number, accessorized with mesh gloves and one of her signature face mask. Lady Gaga who?
Tell us! Who wore it best?

It’s way hard to find a bad pic of this woman.
I don’t know if it’s the change of season or seeing all the runway shows from Fashion Week, but I’m in a major shopping mood.
Hope you are, too.
Two years ago, it was the skinnies … and thank goodness, they’re still hot on the block. A few years before that, it was the low rise and boot cut. This year, pants are getting super-sized. So, turn up the volume. The wide leg has made it’s way into the upcoming seasons. But it doesn’t stop there, they’re getting wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiider.
