It’s her party she can wear what she wants to, but…
After performing at the All-Star Game halftime show, Rihanna convened with a group of her celeb friends to celebrate her 23rd birthday at a private party in Beverly hills. The venue was iced out, literally, with sculptures and guests noshed on red velvet cupcakes printed with the letter ‘R’ and the Barbadian flag. Of course Jay-Z and Beyonce were in the house to “toast to that” as well as Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Cee-Lo, Christina Milian and Snoop Dogg and Warren G who both hit the mic to perform some of their old school rap songs. But enough about who was there, what did she wear?
Rih wore this interesting cut-out peach dress complete with a flared purple skirt–all the better to shake a tail feather in, see how she worked it througout the night:
She finished the look with nude pumps but this dress seems like it was calling for strappy sandals.
Maybe Rihanna was tapping back into her island roots with this one? This certainlyseems like the type of dress design you might see out while on a beachy vacation…
If sex sells, Rihanna’s working overtime in the steamy new video she released last night for her song ”S&M.” The Barbadian beauty teamed up with with Melina Matsoukas, who also created the videos for Rihanna’s singles ”Rockstar 101,” “Rude Boy” and “Hard” for the new video that pokes fun at her critics, and there are plenty of playful style moments as well.
The seven sultry looks and different variations of her fiery hair are wild and risqué, but when Rhi declares ”I may be bad/but I’m perfectly good at it“ I have to agree with her. She looks hot!
Rihanna is trapped at a press conference in a newspaper gown splashed with phrases like ”Daddy Issues” and “Barbados.”
Rhi gets sophisticated in a ladylike dress and hat to walk her “dog” played by blogger Perez Hilton.
The singer tapped into her inner Playboy bunny in this scene where she wore Jeremy Scott’s High Waisted Briefs and Brief Fingerless Gloves.
A heart eye patch? Love!
Chiquita Banana’s naughty twin.
There was nothing safe about this two-toned latex dress.
Playing it safe can get boring, so I salute celebs for testing out new styles that the average woman may not pick up and breaking “fashion rules;” but what do we think of these looks?
Ciara kicked it courtside at the Lakers vs. Knicks game in LA wearing a pair of Christian Louboutin Toundra Fur Boots ($1,269). The furry footwear has coyote trim with double straps and a wooden heel. Coyote ugly? Or cute?
Last week Rihanna was out shopping at Fred Segal with her BFF Melissa in a pair of R13 Denim Leather Chap Jeans ($620) that almost look like daisy dukes worn with leather leggings. Interesting concept especially for day wear but Rihanna can pretty much pull off anything. Would you wear these?
Kerry Washington usually keeps it conservative on the red carpet but last night she had the blues at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in a splashy print Alberto Makali mini and bow-detailed peep-toe booties. The electric blue color of the shoes are a bit heavy with the dress and normally I’m not a fan of such a matchy-matchy ensemble (she even finished it off with blue eyeshadow), but she is wearing the heck out of that mini.
We can’t get enough of these ladies, and all their style antics, and this month they’re all over the newsstands, yet again.
Keri Hilson’s pretty girl rocking on the cover of the December/January issue of VIBE. She’s giving me Madonna in this Jean Paul Gaultier-esqe bustier (viva la cones!), chains and leather cap.
Keri has been on a promotional whirlwind in support of her new album No Boys Allowed, which is due out December 21. Every time she pops up she’s doing something different with her look. Love the versatility.
Across the pond, Rihanna’s sexing things up for British GQ’s January 2011 issue. There aren’t many clothes going on in the shoot (surprise, surprise) and she fully acknowledges that in the issue.”Girls don’t like to see other girls dressed sexy. I get that,” she said. ”People see my ass out and my boobs out, so it can get a little irritating.”
Nicki Minaj is larger than life in the December/January issue of Ebony in a 6-page feature shot by Derek Blanks (who does those celebrity alter-ego shoots I can’t get enough of).
Cool concept. Click here to see how she “took over New York” in Ebony’s behind the scenes footage from the shoot.
I had to double check my calendar and make sure it wasn’t October 31st when I saw pictures of Rihanna and Melody Thornton partying at Drake’s after party at Greenhouse on last night in New York.
Rihanna’s still loving those referee stripes and Ronald McDonald wig (am I the only one who liked her better with short hair if she insists on wearing the Kool-Aid color?). Melanie on the other hand channeled Princess Tiana with a tiara and A-line dress with a be-dazzled trim. Was it costume night at the club?
Across the pond Kelis took it down to the bare bones with a leather jacket that she wore while hitting up the River Island store on London last night.
Actually, this is the least scary I’ve seen Kelis looking in a minute! Dare I say I like the way she mixed the heart-under-ribcage leather, with the screaming pink shirt, leather leggings and detailed boots? Not an every day piece, but at the very lest it’s inspiration for a fun but not over the top Halloween party look.
You have to love Rihanna for pushing the fashion envelope and taking risks and all, but the look she was spotted in while shooting her latest video “What’s My Name” is on a whole other level. I can only assume that Ringling Brothers action shots and pictures of Ronald McDonald were the point of inspiration for this:
The netted headband could’ve been really cute but since it’s the same color as her hiar it only makes her look like she missed a spot with her curling iron. The socks peeking out of Oxford boots is also a fun idea in theory but executed with the cut-off fishnet stockings peeking out of her hot pants and coupled with a referee jacket? Why Rhi Rhi?
At least it looks like she had fun. It’ll be interesting to see what this music video ultimately looks like…we know it wont be boring.
Meanwhile in Charlotte, North Carolina Lil Kim and her cousin Katrise Jones celebrated the grand opening of a their joint business venture Salon SeSwa.
Kiddunot.com snapped pictures of the Queen B cutting the ribbon with her cousin–who opened the first Salon Se Swa in 2004 in Raleigh, North Carolina–and Meagan Good.
Kim added a Midas touch to the party with a metallic dress and matching shoes.
What’s your take on Rihanna and ‘Lil Kim’s outfits?
It’s about that time again: the leaves are changing, fashion magazines weigh almost as much as dictionaries, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back in Starbucks and it’s time to buy a new wardrobe–or at least find a few key pieces that’ll give your closet an update. Ahh fall! Before you start stocking up on all thing’s fresh for the season, what’s already in your closet? Probably more wearable options from last year than you think. Here’s a flashback to some styles you might already have that are worth pulling out again for another go round.
They’ve proven to be a multi-season classic and they’re sticking around…again. For fall try mixing a wool-blend version with feminine fabrics like sheer or lace or slip, pop a scarf underneath, mix it with skinny jeans or incorporate other nods to menswear–which fits right into this season’s tailored trend.
2. Dark Florals
While floral are often associated with spring and summer, last year’s stormier prints were perfect to mix with inky pieces like black tights and boots and will fit right in again with the more somber colors and pieces this season. If your florals are brighter, try adding a cardigan that matches the dress’ color palate.
This feminine finish popped up on bags, shoes, dresses, shirts, bathing suits–you name it–over the last year. Wearing one key piece, like a cardigan, is a fresh way to keep getting your frills.
4. Oxford Shoes
The grandpa-turned-universal shoe for every hipster in America still looks cool with a variety of pieces from skinny pants to dresses and looks sleek dressed up or down.
5. Over-the-Knee Boots
The sexy stiletto versions are still hot, but this fall you’ll also see styles that are more casual and flatter–which means stylish options that give your feet a break.
What other styles will you recycle from last fall?
Just a few days after Rihanna released her latest single “Only Girl (In the World)” came the artwork for the track. On it, Rihanna is sitting in the middle of a field in the Hamptons wearing nothing but a necklace, bracelet, her longer red wig and a longing gaze. Ok, she’s holding a rose-embroidered crimson dress that I imagine could be cute if I could actually see it on her (although its positioning gives you a rare peek at a hip tattoo).
I must admit I’m a little bored with seeing Rihanna half-naked, but anythingis better than the bold-shoulder onesies she’s been wearing for the last year. Are you feeling the artwork?
Rihanna revealed through her official fan website RihannaDaily.com that her next album will be titled “Loud” and wrote: ”I’m just gonna be me, cuz that’s what u guys love the most, and that’s what makes me feel best…Normal for me is LOUD! sassy, fun, flirty, energetic.”
The bold color of her hair and dress against the muted background are definitely loud. Hate it or love it?
Boyfriend blazers have become a summer essential and the great thing about this staple is they come in so many fabrics and shades that you can own several and achieve a different look with each one! Gabrielle Union and Rihanna both took a different spin on this trend yesterday and reminded us just how versatile this piece can be. In each case, the this tailored piece added a finishing touch that made the outfit way more interesting and polished–it’s a total transforming addition!
Gabby balanced out the femininity of a floral frock with an ivory option at the Nylon + Express August Denim Issue party in Hollywood last night.
While these looks are breezy and summery it’s still a perfect time to get into the blazer trend. With fall around the corner they’re a great transition piece. If you like how Gabby did it in white, opt for a creme color that’ll make sense now and when the weather turns. If you’re feeling iffy about colors, black is always a safe bet. Look for a version that has interesting lining in the sleeve–like stripes or a pop of color–so you can stylishly show off your cuffs. Swap shorts for leggings or jeans and add a scarf to warm up a blazer for fall and the look still works for dresses with the addition of tights.
Rihanna painted the town red with her boyfriend Matt Kemp Monday night starting with a dinner at Da Silvano in New York. As if her presence wasn’t enough to turn heads, Rih commanded attention in the screaming Lime Tie-Dye Tank Dress from Proenza Schouler’s Spring 2010 line. She belted the runway frock and mixed it with gladiators and shades–perhaps because she was blinding herself!
This dress is definitely summer time fly but in contrast to to Rihanna’s fiery bowl cut it’s a bit of a color clash. What do you think of the look?
Now most girls would go for dessert or a movie after a dinner date with their man, but most girls aren’t Rihanna. After the couple finshed eating they made their way to East Side Ink Tattoo to get tatted up.
Matt and Rihanna browsed design books before she settled on the script that would become what’s reportedly her 15th tattoo (geeze woman!) which appears on her neck.
On Tuesday night the Rated R star hit the streets of New York again and took of a bandage to give the paparazzi a peek of her new ink:
Yeah, we cocked our heads to the side, squinted and put our faces up to the computer too and still have no idea what that says. What do you think about the location though?
It looks like the previous pictures of Rihanna were just a sketch of the new tattoo, but below is a clearer closeup. The new tattoo says “rebelle fleur” which means “rebel flower” in French. She so hard! Yeah, yeah, yeah.
