Ceasefire: When Music Stars Call an End to Beef

As Confucius once said, for every beef started, another is squashed. Or maybe that was actually Poppa Wu? Either way, it’s the cycle of rap beef, and it always holds true. One of rap’s oldest, coldest feuds, between Keith Murray and Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, appears to have come to a recent end. The two rappers have been taking shots at each other—on record, at clubs, in books, and online—since 1995. But with Prodidy tweeting the above photo of him and his former rival chilling with Busta Rhymes this past Sunday, June 17, it seems that cooler heads have finally prevailed. Of course, this isn’t the first rap beef that’s come to a peaceful conclusion. Common/Drake

After engaging in one of the more random, seemingly pointless rap beefs of all time (and that’s saying a lot), Common and Drake have reportedly kissed and made up. Despite their on-wax back-and-forth earlier this year, the two were seen talking on seemingly friendly terms at the NBA All-Star Game in February. Com later explained that the two had squashed the beef backstage at the Grammys. “We had a talk, we had a conversation,” Common told MTV News. “It was a face-to-face, man-to-man, a positive thing. I’ve learned to respect him even more. I already thought he was a talented guy, but just from the conversation we had, I hold even more respect for him.”

Chris Brown/Tyler, the Creator

Social media has created a space for digital war of words between artists who don’t even know one another personally. Earlier this year, Breezy and Odd Future members Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator exchanged subliminal and blatant shots via tweets before calling a digital truce shortly thereafter. Chris and Tyler later went on to show Twitter respect by sending congratulatory tweets after both shined at this year’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards (Tyler won “Best New Artist” and Chris put down a legendary dance performance).
