Mo’Nique Wins At New York Film Critics Online

moniqueMo’Nique, who is a definite shoe-in for an Oscar nod, won best supporting actress from New York Film Critics Online – of which I am a member - for her role in Precious: Based on the Novel by Sapphire. The decade-old organization is a pre-cursor for the Academy Award nominations. In the past, they have awarded actors like Jamie Foxx in Ray, Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland and Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls — who all won Oscars for those roles.

I did not like the movie myself, I understand the fact of teenage early childbirth, because I was one of those mother myself at sixteen, But I went back too school. But I really think precious did a little to much day dreaming in the movie until I fell asleep. I understand she was doing it to block out what was happen to her, but in the back ground I could see the mother clearly seeing the father raping the daughter, and not doing anything to help her,. If that were , my husband on my daughter, he probably would not be alive to see the next day. And for you as the mother to call your daughter in to do sexaul act with you to give her money to eat , make you just as sick as the father. How I thought that was the most , poorest movie , Not in your performance, but making the black people look worst in the most ground breaking of the lowest as dirt. They make the black man look bad, They try to make the president look bad, And now we make ourselves look bad. When will it every stop. So our kids can see something postive, to make them postive. Writer need to take lesson from Tyler Perry.

Roby, did you not know that this is a Tyler Perry Movie? You really should do your research before making comments. Obviously this movie is not representative of everyone’s experience in the black community. But just because it hasn’t happened to you personally, doesn’t mean that it isn’t someone else’s tragedy. I’ve never been in a drive-by, but I know they happen. The movie doesn’t characterize ALL black men as insidious or incestuous, but to imply it doesn’t happen or try to keep it swept under the rug for appearance sake is simply ignorant. If this movie were about Irish Americans you would not assume that all Irish people were this way. This is a story that needed to be addressed because it happens too often in our community, and continues to go unchecked. Kudos for a well-made movie that explores all sides of a very problematic situation.

And to Brodius: Mo’s weight should have nothing to do with the luv you show her. Give that woman respect because of who she is, how she behaves and what she stands for. I’m a big girl and I’ve got nothing but love for my sista’, whether shes’s a size 2 or size 22. Mo be happy, be loved, be blessed!
