Hot Trailer: Godzilla

Hollywood is taking another stab at making Godzilla happen, and from the trailer it looks like no building will be left unturned. Gareth Edwards (Monsters) takes the helm of this reboot of the Japanese classic, with a prestigious cast that includes Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins and it-girl Elizabeth Olsen. Unlike the 1998 reboot, which annoyed fanboys with its modern rendition of Godzilla’s look, the creature in this film is closer to 1954’s original Gojira.

We won’t hold our breath for this new Godzilla to take a huge bite out of the box office, but we’ll admit the monster does look interesting. Check out the trailer below and judge for yourself. Godzilla hits theaters on May 16.

Justin Timberlake’s ‘Yogi Bear’ In Theaters Tomorrow

Published by Clay Cane on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 8:00 am.

Looking for a holiday family film? Yogi Bear, a 3D live-action/CGI film based on the legendary cartoon series, The Yogi Bear Show, is in theaters tomorrow. The movie includes voices from comedian Dan Aykroyd as Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake as Boo-Boo Bear.

According to Wikipedia: “When Jellystone Park starts losing visitors, the mayor decides to shut it down. That would mean everyone will lose the joy of the outdoors, and worst of all, Yogi and Boo Boo will be thrown out of the only home they have ever known. So Yogi and Boo Boo must team up with their archenemy, Ranger Smith, to save the park.”

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ In Theaters Friday

Published by Clay Cane on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 9:35 am.

The Harry Potter phenomenon transcends race and gender. It’s a global movement and Deathly Hallows is the seventh installment and the second to the last film of the franchise, which is in theaters this Friday. The flick is also being present in IMAX.

Word on the street is this version is a huge upgrade from the lackluster Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from 2009.

Happy Hallowen: Saw 3D in Theatres Today

Published by Clay Cane on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 8:30 am.

It just wouldn’t be Halloween horror movie season if a new Saw movie didn’t hit theaters. We are now on the seventh installment of Saw and this time it’s in 3D.

Allegedly (and I do stress allegedly!), this is the final act of the Saw franchise. However, now the tables are turned on the viewers, which is an interesting concept but looks more like horror movie camp than the solid writing and good special effects of the first two.  Hopefully, Tandera Howard will make another appearance!

Nonetheless, check out the trailer below and enjoy your Halloween!

Denzel Washington’s ‘Unstoppable’

Published by Clay Cane on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11:29 am.

Denzel Washington’s action-drama is finally in theaters Friday, November 12th. The flick is packed with a powerhouse cast that includes Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson.  It is also directed by Tony Scott, who was behind Denzel’s Déjà Vu and last year’s The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. According to Wikipedia:

A railroad company frantically works to prevent an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying combustible liquids and poisonous gas from wiping out a city. A veteran locomotive engineer (Denzel Washington) and a young train conductor (Chris Pine) chase the runaway train in a different locomotive in order to bring the runaway under control before it is too late.

This looks like another box office hit for Washington, whose last film was Book of Eli. Check out the trailer!

Jenifer Lews in ‘Hereafter’

Published by Clay Cane on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 8:00 am.

I had some interest in seeing Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter, but after hearing the phenomenal Jenifer Lewis has a role — I am sold!  The veteran of stage and screen is known for her comedic roles but to see her in a dramatic role is cinematic gold.  The best scene in Not Easily Broken was Lewis’ breakdown.  She was also a force in Strong Medicine.  So I can’t wait to see Ms. Lewis in Hereafter, which stars Matt Damon. Here is the synopsis.

HEREAFTER tells three parallel stories about three people affected by death in different ways. Oscar® winner Matt Damon stars as George, a blue-collar American who has a special connection to the afterlife. On the other side of the world, Marie (Cécile de France) a French journalist has a near-death experience that shakes her reality. And when a London schoolboy (Frankie McLaren) loses the person closest to him, he desperately needs answers. Each on a path in search of the truth, their lives will intersect, forever changed by what they believe might or must exist in the HEREAFTER. Candace (Jenifer Lewis) is Matt Damon’s neighbor, a woman who will do anything and give everything to make a connection with her loved one.
