Rick Ross Comes Clean About Past
Published by Marcus Vanderberg on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 4:18 pm.
William Leonard Roberts II, aka, Rick Ross, is finally coming clean about his past.
In an exclusive interview with Don Diva, Ross admits that he was a Florida Corrections officer.
“I never tried to hide my past! I put my name inside all my CDs. My company has my SS #. I could’ve put a company name,” Ross tells the magazine. “I done been up and I done been down and that’s what make me who I am. I never ratted on a n***a! I never prosecuted a n***a! I never locked up a n***a that is first and foremost,” he continues. I always felt that me being the n***a I am, I never owed a n***a an explanation. When I’m making my music and I’m talking about blow, it’s because I did it. When I say that I’m rich off of cocaine, it’s because I did it. Those are the street principles that apply.”
I’m glad The Smoking Gun put this cat on blast.
Hopefully this will teach rappers about being honest about their past.

we still riding wit u all tha way from cali 2 miyayo
keep it all the way real.
I am still a huge fan even though i don’t to much care for
rap. I respect your honesty.
Let me get this straight…..Rick Ross was put on blast for being a corrections officer while portraying himself to be some type of drug czar in his rhymes. So having a decent job discredits him as being a real man or shows his lack of keeping it real. Come on son…if you (the fans) really feel that grinding on these streets 24/7 and living off of another brothas name is keeping it real our generation has a lot to learn. I’ve been on both sides of the justice system just like William Roberts and trust me….keeping it real is being a family man with a beautiful Black sista by my side, raising our two children together while having an honest and legal career that supports us all. That’s being the biggest boss that you’ve seen thus far. Most cats are being real fugazzi with their lifestyles anyway raising their kids from a distance and alienating countless sistas that want to hold them down. Stop trying to live your lives like it’s a video and Wake up my Brothas!!
Since when is having a job something to be ashamed of?
ross we luv, keep it up nd still de boss
A few of you took the words right out of my mouth!!!! Since when is having a legal, decent job a bad thing and something to be ashamed of? It’s a very sad day in the world if this is what our youth and music has come to!! What kills me is that he still is trying to glorify the fact that he sold drugs as if that’s a GOOD thing!!!! Am I in the Bizarro world? What am I missing people? Emmulating a drug lord who killed thousands with his drugs and killing people over turf and who knows what else – going as far as taking on his name – that’s something to be proud of? That’s what you want the world to know you as? That’s demented and sick!!!! Parents please look at this and use this as the prime example to your children of the kind of person NOT to be!!! Raise them to be proud to make a living honestly and with dignity!!!!
Who cares!! He still makes good music. You have some rappers out there rapping about things that they have done and been thru and then you have the one’s that fabricate their stories. Good music is good music no matter what you’re talking about!!
this is why we as parents must be role models for our kids. This man is glorifying a life of crime and drug dealing and sounding like he’s ashamed of having once had a LEGIT job!!!! What is this world coming to when it becomes a shameful thing to be on the straight and narrow and live a life honestly and in a law abiding way??? This is some sick and twisted crap, I don’t care how “good” his music is supposed to be! To glorify that life style to keep street cred, to take on the name of a notorious drug lord who killed so many trafficing drugs into the black community just blows my mind people. Teach your kids, be role models and use Rick Ross and others like him as examples of WHAT NOT TO BE!!!!!
I mean *%$% u can rap an all but u was still a police dogg so u tellin me u was a dirty cop
Son William Leonard Roberts II or Rick Ross what eva you wanna call son his music is what he is he already said he was and that the record label have his social the know who he is but son real… son was a corrections officer and got rich off cocaine son do him… N***as cheer hatin on son but i bet they got ross cds and blast son music in they car, crib and prolly while they working at their fast food jobs ya heard me… everyday ross hustlin’ so he was a correction officer it was bout making that money… N***as done came at my head with some dumb sh** cause i changed my name… but I’m still the same person Son people be hatin cause that just cause they want what son got the money- the fame- and the respect you already know dat!!! Son yall thats hatin on son tell me why and tell me that you dont play son music and qoute his sh** on myspace or what eva you be on… Look William Leonard Roberts II / Rick Ross do you son f**k what dem fake N***as talking bout … Keep Making that music So… New Orleans Behind you all the way Believe Dat.
People are just hatin on the man because he made it out the hood. Be should be happy and stop hatin. Some cos(corrections Officers) work and do all the things that Ross talks about in his lyrics. So because he “had”a professional job does not mean anything.
ricky ross i still love you .it doesnt matter u still the boss .hold florida down.
Wats good world yea when everybody found out some people said awww he fake and that the boss is not real but hey wateva he did in the pass he did and can’t take that back but it is wwhat it is do ya thig ROSS
RICKY I STILL LOVE YOU MAN. AM SO HAPPY TO KNOW THAT U REALLY HAD A REAL JOB. WHAT MAKES U A STRONG MAN IS WHAT U VE BEEN THRU IN LIFE. KEEP GIVING ME GOOD MUSIC. TRIPLE Cs!!!
It’s not the fact that he was a C.O. and like Marilynn said its great he had a real job. I’m mad because he lied and said he wasn’t a CO. But I’m still a big fan. It’s good he came and and told the truth because alot rappers today lie about everything.
GOOD JOB RICK ROSS ITS TAKES A REAL MAN TO HANDLE WORK LIFE AND HUSTLE AND TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS ON THE SIDE, TRICK DADDY DATS MY DUDE, BUT HE SHOULD COME OFF THAT HATIN **%@, LET HIM GET HIS MONEY AND HOLD MIAMI DOWN , THE BOSS CAME OUT OF NO WHERE AND TOOK THE COUNTRY BY STORM, IM STILL YOUR BIGGEST FAN MUCH LOVE THE BOSS
So what if he work at a prison. Thats good he payed taxes and that how you keep the evil eye off you. Do ya thang work and get it so now you shine and!!!!
there is nothing wrong with having a job as a correction officer, that is no punk job…..however i don’t have respect for rick ross bcuz he denied the rumor when it first broke and said he was not a c.o., everybody knows that the majority of rappers today is not real, the rap industry is no different than the W.W.E., it’s just characters, fake as hell and just for entertainment…..you got some dumb rappers (remy ma) who try to keep it real and gangsta, shot somebody but than get on t.v. and cry in the middle of a interview bcuz she don’t want to go to prison……WOW
Who cares what he did before he became a rapper! I love the way he does his thing and how he tells his stories! At least he had a job and he dosent have to get another one any time soon! People wish they could live the life he lived, and like he said “he been there and done it all”! Stop hating on the boy, Cuzz he is DA BO$$!
