Video Girls Think, Too
Published by Runteldat on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 11:50 am.There’s this theory about video girls (usually called something else): They’ll spread their legs for any rapper that will let them bend over enough times in their videos to net a King cover (R.I.P.).
Melyssa Ford, however, has always stood up against the stereotype that every video vixen gets their Karrine Steffans on behind the scenes.
Gracing the cover of J’Adore magazine, Ms. Ford spoke on her experiences in the world of hip-hop videos and the male chauvinists she’s had to encounter.
Ford said:
“Addressing misconceptions, she adds, ‘When I come across the opportunity to talk, people are kind of surprised that I have some degree of intelligence.’
I was making my way through this male-dominated business with my partner and manager, Daniella Cobb, and we would be in meetings where we would wrap up a meeting with whomever, and the ensuing question would be, ‘So when are we going to f–k?’ It was frustrating; my reaction was like, ‘Were you present in this meeting!? Do you understand that that’s not why we’re here?!’ Women have to walk a fine line in this business. You’ve got to act like steel magnolias. You’ve got to be firm and ladylike, and know exactly what you want in order to make it in this business and what you’re talking about. As a woman, you have to take what you want by force, but analyze how that force has to be used.”
If I’m being honest, when I read a blog entry from Melyssa about global warming, my initial reaction was, “Shouldn’t she be fonting about twirking?”
But the post was actually well thought out and didn’t make me want to curse the person who bought her a keyboard. She showed me.
Melyssa is absolutely right in saying you can’t judge every book by its cover…or in her case thong.

Okay’ so here’s my take on miss vidihoe..
You say u want people to recognize u for ur SO CALLED talent that you have.
But really i we know and see of you is ur assets, in evry video, grinding on some hip hop superstar, and just being in typical GROUPIE.. So really if any body has anything to say about you or is jugdging you n it’s all negtivity..
The apple doesnt fall very far from the tree honey.. Stop DANCING AROUND IN VIDEO’S TAKING UR CLOTHES OFF, AND ACTAULLY HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR YOUR SELF.. IM SURE UR MAMA DID NT RAISE U TO BE KNOW BODY’S VIDIHOE… U ASKIN TO BE DISSED…
Where was ur “intelligence” before u started the whole video ass shakin thing? If you are soo smart you should’ve been aware of what you are getting into including those generalizations of women in the videos
Just wanna say,True beauties are actually among ourselves

melyssa is a grown woman. she made a choice too do videos to get in this industry. no one can fault a grown woman choicing to make a decision about her life. she broke away from videos and did other things in her life, in which most video girls dont. everyone needs to stop hating on her because at the end of the day being in videos was a job that she got paid to do.not to sleep with any artist.
