Ne-Yo: Drop The Pounds
Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 12:00 am.There are some people highly pissed at Ne-Yo for telling this young woman that in order to share the stage with the likes of Beyonce, she’s going to have to run some laps, do some pushups, and trade in that double cheeseburger with bacon and a side of heart failure for a nice salad.
I suppose the argument is that Ne-Yo used to complain about being told he wasn’t handsome enough to compete with the Usher’s and Justin Timberlake’s of the world. Yet he came into the game, lied about his age and pretended his face wasn’t there (hey, they questioned his looks, not me) and still managed to rack up in album sales and awards.
In other words, if he could do it why wouldn’t he go and encourage that young woman to continue to go and get her Popeye’s on.
I don’t think Ne-Yo was being offensive. He was being honest. As he put it, if she wanted to go the Jill Scott route she would be accepted for who she is. But in a world of Pop/R&B full of blond weaves, nose jobs, and butt pads she might want to look into fixing her look a bit.
It’s an inconvenient truth that looks matter in pop music (and in general). Could she record a song like “Upgrade U” and still manage to get the same amount of love as Beyonce? Anything is possible, but it’s not likely. Ne-Yo is right: In pop music, most are shallow.
You mad?

No, I think Ne-Yo was giving her some sound advice. I mean it’s coming from someone who fought to be where he is now. It may have come out harshly, but if she wanted advice that’s what she got and not some sugar coated BS. If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t have said what he said. On the bright side, if she does take his advice, she’ll be #1 heathly and #2 it would increase her self-esteem. I hope the best for her.
As mad as everyone is..He was very honest with her. People like to be lied to..They don’t wanna here they are ugly, fat or need improvement..You can’t be mad at what he said.
Yea, I feel wat Ne-Yo was saying. No disrespect. But the music industry (for the most part) is starting to slack. It’s all about appearence more than actual school. Don’t get me wrong, Beyonce got a voice on her, but w/ the makeup face going around, the stuff gets kinda played out. Time for a change!
I found a great place *** ==== http://BillionaireRomance.com ======= *** It ’s where you have the opportunity dreaming about dating a millionaire and make it true! I thought everyone needed to meet some miracle after all the terrible stuff in the news and the economy
I aint even Mad at Ol Ne-Yo. He did nothing but give her honesty. We all know Hollywood has its standards. So if that is what she is looking for she is going to have to work hard for it! You think everyone else in the industry just wake up and they looking like that?? Well no! We constantly watch celebrities go through transformations. Especially our famous females. So big ups to Ne-yo for keeping it real!
Not mad. He only said what many before him have said to artists like Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Price, Ruben Studdard and many others. It’s sad but that is the way of the world…shallow..shallow..shallow.
