Fans Flock to Honor Michael Jackson at The Apollo Theater

Apollo

Yesterday in New York, fans packed the legendary Apollo Theater  for a public tribute to Michael Jackson (after all this is the theater that helped launch the Jackson 5’s careers when they won Amature Night in 1969) and the scene was unbelievable!

All over the streets vendors peddled bootleg copies of “Moonwalker,” buttons, shirts and other memorabilia while thousands of fans wrapped around the block (many waited for hours in the sweltering heat, and later on in the evening: pouring rain!) just to experience the event. The crowd was full of people showing off their dance moves, singing songs and rocking some of Michael’s signature styles.

Groups of 600 were rotated in and out of the theater for a tribute that was simple, but extremely lively. Inside, the Apollo set up floral arrangements and blown up photos of the star that fans took pictures with before they took their seats. On stage (which was decorated with a fedora, shades and one sparkly white glove in remembrance of Michael and then later in the evening became cluttered with a sea of letters, posters, flowers and stuffed animals left by fans) a DJ from New York radio station 107.5 rocked the house with all the MJ classics we’ve grown to love. (Side Note: did you hear that MJ’s albums and other Jackson albums currently hold the top nine positions on Billboards Top Pop Catalog chart!?)

Spike Lee came to the theater to show his respects and at one point took to the stage with Al Sharpton, who attended to offer a offered a eulogy for Michael after each group finished rocking out. At 5:26pm (the exact time the East Coast learned that MJ passed), there was a moment of silence in Michael’s honor.

There was so much love for Michael in Harlem, it was truly amazing! Below are pictures from the event! If you happen to be in New York, be sure to check out the Apollo again tonight: the theater is dedicating its weekly Amature Night to Michael and there will be special performances and dance features such as a moonwalking contest.

The funk don’t stop!

It’s very impressingof how much fans Michael Jackson had! but I would like to say it is very sad how he is gone at the moment! it did not seem like he would die in his 50’s it seems likke he would have past away later on in life. But one good thing is that he is heaven where he don’t have to go through so much problems & struggles in life. even though i haven’t seen Michael Jackson in real life such as, face to face if just felt like i knew him because of the songs that he mad had really made me feel like I knew him because of the vibe that that actually gt’s inside f you & make yourself share the butterflies in your heart with the outside of you. I truly loved Michael Jackson for his music & his inspiration for others he really inspired people for alot of things for example showing people that they can truly make it in life and achieve their dream. Showing others to be someone who inpires others & show others also, to never give up because no matter what kind of realitiesor possibilities you have that are set in your mind you can always & I mean alway’s let them come out so you can acheve those somewhere in life. Lasty, Michael Jackson showed others that it is not hard to become what you wanna be as long as you believe & work very hard on you dream the practicin & working might be a little hard but still it is worthwhile doing it to just sit back & lay around without achieving nothing. Michael Jackson is deffinitly the King Of Pop & can’t no one ever ever take his exstrodinary place R.I.P Michael we love you & you are still in everyone’s hearts!=)

Please leave Michael alone! What PROOF do you (Tiquette) have that he molested those boys? Please have some respect for Michael’s family during their time of grief. If your father seduced boys, I hope that you and the boys overcome that tragedy. Michael, I will never forget you. Thank you for your awesome talent. I love you!!!!! Jackson family, I will continue to pray for your recovery.

I WATCHED THIS COVERAGE OF THE TRIBUTE THE APOLLO THEATER DID FOR MICHAEL. I MUST SAY, I WAS VERY HAPPY AND VERY PROUD TO SEE THE LOVE HIS FANS HAVE FOR HIM. IT’S BEEN A WEEK NOW SINCE THE TRAGIC NEWS AND THERE JUST SEEM LIKE THERE IS NO COMFORT ANYWHERE IN SIGHT. MY HEART IS VERY SADDENED BY HIS DEATH. BUT, IT SADDENS ME MORE TO SEE HOW THE MEDIA TRIES TO PORTRAY HIM. I AM SO GLAD THAT GOD IS OUR JUDGE AND NOT MAN. R.I.P. MICHAEL. I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND I ALWAYS HAVE. I WISH I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE MET YOU. REST ASSURED, I WILL MEET YOU IN HEAVEN ONE DAY. GOD BLESS THE JACKSON FAMILY.

The African American community has lost an iconic legend. Michael Jackson will surely be missed. Yes our hearts are broken over his death; yes we loved him. We need to realize the GOD loved him more. We need to be happy that Michael is not on earth suffering anymore. Dispite all the negative publicity, MJ was truly a unique and talented man. We don’t need to remember him for the wrong he’s done, but the for good. All that good music he out during his lifetime…………..will truly be missed. All we can do is pray for his family. MJ will live on through his children and music.
