They say African babies are the latest Hollywood accessory. Question: Why don’t we see more Black celebrities adopting? (In this pic: Actress Mary-Louise Parker strolls through NYC with the baby girl she picked out from somewhere on the continent.)

BET.comer keshacole07 says “it’s chic to have an african baby. all they now need is a store where they can go and pick them out without having to go all the way to africa.”

Is she right?

I think it is great that these white celebrities are adopting african children as long as, it is not just a fad. A lot of african orphans need help and being able to get this needed help is great. I hope that these white celebrities will have some black influences in their lives so, that they can learn and appreciate their true culture that they came from.

I like the idea,it’s cool but don’t just be adopting for the hell of it.Angelina and Brad seem to really really love and care for all there different nationality kids, when they are out they treat all the kids the same and seem like they enjoy every minute of it and one thing about Brad and Angelina you see them doing the work with the kids not some nannie at the park pushing the carriage and playing with them so thats great. Keep adopting because the kids they adoptive have no idea how dam lucky they are wheew!!!!

That’s my fear — that it IS becoming a fad. I’m hoping these white celebs aren’t trying to be like Angelina Jolie. It’s great and all. I just want everyone’s hearts to be in the right place.

it’schic to have an african baby all they now needis a store where they can goand pick them out without having to go all the way to africa I think white people need to appease their racist minds that’s why they adopt the babies in the first place

What are black celebrities waiting for.Show these white people you can adopt too,Either in the states or Africa.

Natasha said on September 21st, 2007

I think that madonna and the actress pictured up top are adopting the kids for publicity. Angelina Jolie on the other hand went out of state for rallies and she was in organizations trying to help the kids in different continents. She was really into helping the kids out of state that’s why she adopted those kids. As far as the white people w/ African babies maybe they need sum color in their life. I think African American actresses are not adopting because they feel they don’t need to since its “our” people. I think they are leaving it up to the white people because they owe “us.” I don’t know. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I wonder why more Black celebrities don’t help the people in Africa? They have the money, but what do they do for the communities here in the U.S.

Go figure that one out? Maybe they forget where they came from? Maybe…?

Lets just keep it real…those with love as there intentions God bless…and the OTHERS God Bless them too for the true light will come out of the darkness….Now as far the brothas and sistas steppin up,yes that would be the grandest thing of all however WE still have brothas and sistas right here that can also use the help..so its a catch 22,23,24,25(see where Im going with this)…we all need some help, all of us…….Each One Reach one……
Now dig dat…

Well lets not forget about the orphans in America! (Celebs Im talking to you!)

I think celebs are finally doing something that is worth hearing about instead of there love lives. Thank you Angelina for doing something postive and letting the world know there is still good people like you out there. At First I thought Madonna was a fake and it was all for publicity but now I feel that she really wants to help the children over in indonesia. So my props go out to her and all the other celebs who are willing to use there money wisely and help these poor children out.

While she was trying to be sarcastic i think it’s great that our anglo-american sistas’ and brothas’ are steppin’ up to the plate. If we as black people aren’t doing it might as well step to the side and let somebody else take charge. Bless those who have taken those beautiful babies in.

I read some ignorant comments coming from what I want to believe is some very intelligent people. Who are we to say how one should or shouldn’t raise their kids? How many of you has adopted these kids? The most important thing is that they are brought up in a loving environment. Please black people don’t adopt these kids because our white counterparts are if you do adopt do it because it’s from the heart. To all people BLK/WHT/RED/GRN I want to thank you guys for 1st having the courage to adopt and to all my white mothers with their little bundles of black joy continue bringing laughter and joy into the kids life at least you had the heart to adopt and please w/ no special permission from me raise your kids the way you see fit.

Hispana07 said on September 25th, 2007

Why does it matter where the celebrity is n from where she is adopting her child? The point is that she is tryin to make a difference in someone’s life. People need to stop using color to describe a person; racism will alwayz exist then!

Cane said on September 25th, 2007

First and foremost we are human beings and we need families to raise us - whatever the color. I’m sure the baby is happy to have a mother. There are a lot of children around the world that need families. Keep the African adoptions coming…

peacefulsoul said on September 25th, 2007

It’s a good thing that these kids are being adopted. You can’t compare life in Africa to life here.People born and raised here don’t know what they have.Life in africa for these kids is hell they need love, food, shelter and clothes on their backs. For those adopting God bless you abundantly. These kids go without food for days, sick and all with no medicines..The other thing that peolpe need to look at is how women are being raped, tortured, made to eat their own kids in congo. Please help us let the world know what is going on it’s just plain sick and very disturbing..If you want the whole story or atleast get a picture of what’s going on go to glamour.com and go to the sept issue and scroll down to how you can help women in congo to get the full story but here is just bit of what’s going on..
When we begin talking, Nadine seems utterly disassociated from her surroundings—far away. “I’m 29,” she begins. “I am from the village of Nindja. Normally there was insecurity in our area. We would hide many nights in the bush. The soldiers found us there. They killed our village chief and his children. We were 50 women. I was with my three children and my older brother; they told him to have sex with me. He refused, so they cut his head and he died.”

Nadine’s body is trembling. It is hard to believe these words are coming out of a woman who is still alive and breathing. She tells me how one of the soldiers forced her to drink his urine and eat his feces, how the soldiers killed 10 of her friends and then murdered her children: her four-year-old and two-year-old boys and her one-year-old girl. “They flung my baby’s body on the ground like she was garbage,” Nadine says. “One after another they raped me. From that my ~~@~%# and ?@$# were ripped apart.”

Nadine holds onto my hand as if she were drowning in a tsunami of memory. As devastated as she is, it is clear that she needs to be telling this story, needs me to listen to what she is saying. She closes her eyes and says something I cannot believe I’m hearing. “One of the soldiers cut open a pregnant woman,” she says. “It was a mature baby and they killed it. They cooked it and forced us to eat it.”

Incredibly, Nadine was the only one of the 50 women to escape. “When I got away from the soldiers, there was a man passing. He said, ‘What is that bad smell?’ It was me; because of my wounds, I couldn’t control my urine or feces. I explained what had happened. The man wept right there. He and some others brought me to the Panzi Hospital

Well I’ll just say, I hope they’re doing it because of a love that they have for these babies. To refer to them as an accessory is horrible. Black celebs aren’t really steppin’ up because they’re not really ready to just settle down and start families. Which I think they’re being selfish as hell. But hats off to people that do, it’s an awesome thing, but for those that’s just trying to be seen may God have mercy. Also I take my hat off to the black comedian Katt Williams, whose adopted 6 children. Just because he loves them so much. Other black celebs need to step up, they have the money to do it, then they need to do it. If I were financially stable like those of celebrity status, I’d definately add to my family, and I’m already a mother of three. God Bless!!!

ddunson said on September 26th, 2007

That’s really a cute baby, but CHILDREN ARE NOT ACCESSORIES!!! They are not dogs, cats or anything like that. I just hope and pray that the children that are being adopted are being well taken care of and not just used because it’s the ’so called’ chic thing to do!

t town clown said on September 26th, 2007

i think this is a good thing. its not that they think babies are accessories people. that’s the fellings of the writer of the story about the situation of black babies in hollywood. i think its good though. it gives a child of color opportunity that is more that likely fruitful. to be exposed to better things and learn better things than being in a place where they may have to worry about getting a meal or about their education. its giving a boost for whatever reason it happened to a few black kids. hopefully in itslef this’ll at least do something to mend the rip and misunderstanding between these two races.

JanicefromMinnesota said on September 27th, 2007

Neat-O!!!! It’s a ddamn good idea that these kids, regardless of what continent they come from are being adopted, and by people who are well capable of providing for them finacially. As to why black celebs are not the ones adopting these African children, how about you ask them. Black people don’t know where their priorities are. Priorities for them are material wealth; designer clothes and shoes, partying and clubbing and hating on one another over senseless things. Thank God for white folks, I swear!!!!

OK Lets not try not knock a beautiful thing. But, some people think that we as african americans differ from African. I would love to see someone Any one adopt a child here from the states. There are so many children that are in need of a loving home right here in our own country.

Isn’t it sad. Not only are major companies our sourceing but so are parents that are looking for children to love.

I am not going to judge anyone that gives a homeless child a home no matter where they come from. To me a child is a child and america shows that racisam is strong here in the land of equal rights. When it is all said and done it is not about the homeless child, when it comes to race all that they see is the color of your face. One thing for sure is if you are black wanted to adopt a child any color but black a forbidden zone it becomes leaving a child without a home and that @~@# is so so wrong. The good old USA on this tip even if you are white to adopt a black child its all the same not about giving a homless child a home. Yet it is about a wrong cause who should really care about the color of the person giving a homeless child a loving home. THINK PEOPLE JUST THINK:

J.Mull said on October 8th, 2007

I think that celebs are adopting from all over. It just may be an easier process to get a child from Africa. Every country is different and when you want a baby right away and you don’t have a racial preference, you go with what’s available.

OHDRAMA said on October 9th, 2007

I SAY IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY YOU ADOPT WHO YOU WANT TO ADOPT AND THAT IS BASICALLY YOU’RE RIGHT. I THINK IN AMERICA THAT IT IS MORE DIFFICULT WITH THE ADOPTING PROCEDURE THAN IT WOULD BE TO GO OUT OF THE COUNTRY. THEN AGAIN, WITH THE CHILD BEING ADOPTED OUT OF THE COUNTRY CELEBRITIES DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MONEY HUNGRY FAMILY MEMBERS TRYING LATER ON TO EXTORT THEM FOR MONEY. THERE ARE ALOT OF FACTORS TO CONSIDER BUT I AM GRATEFUL FOR WHATEVER THEIR REASONS ARE AS LONG AS IT ISN’T ILLWILLED OR HARMFUL TOWARD THE CHILD. IF IT IS A FAD, I HOPE IT HAS A LITTLE LONGETIVITY.

Come on people. Orphan black children are being adopted and loved and people are finding problems with it. When it was just White childrens being adopted, then Asians at one time people were beefing about the forgotten black children. Now people are doing something about it and people still want to complain. Shut up already unless I see you adopting them.

blackgerman said on October 12th, 2007

i also think it is nice to adopt children either balck or white. i doNät think so that madonna is just trying to be on the spotlight because she has been working on spotlight since mire than 20 years and her new videos you see krumpers, black dancers and so on. we shouldn’t complain about what white ppl are doing now. black stars really neeed to step up adopting black poor children.

turn 10 & 11 they were terified of afican american
they had know contact with the black commnity, and
was told we were bad people. There is a prolem in
our community to adopt more. Why don’t black celeberties adopt more, that brother me. What the

AJ said on November 13th, 2007

IDK why more blk folks arent adopting possibly because they can have their own child and really dont see the point of adopting or maybe bcuz the same way white folks want to embrace another culture blk folks want to but cant….how often do you see white women with blk kids u know for a fact arent theirs? now how often do you see a blk woman wit a wht baby that she isnt just babysitting? Um ive never seen it bcuz it is so much harder for a blk family to adopt a baby from anotha race if you dont believe me do the research as questions its sumthing that i have never ever seen and id like to adopt a hispanic or asian baby but i doubt that happens….JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT THERE IS STILL RACISM IN AMERICA AND THAT TOP MODEL CHIC CAN KICK ROCKS

Lisa said on November 15th, 2007

Have to agree with Natasha, it crossed my mind that Madonna’s adoption was just not sincere. Maybe trying to compete with Angie?
I truly believe Angelina and Brad are sincerely in love with their children. I don’t know much about the actress pictured though?

It sadden me to hear people comment on whose adopting children, Black children in particular. When a child is hungry, cold, wet, and crying in pain, the person who comforts this child has no color. The child only feels love and want to be loved. WE don’t pick our parents, they don’t either. Instead of complaining make the choice to adopt or stfp.

ummm yea so why dont you see black people adopting white babies okay then just be happy someone actually cares get your facts straight
