Russ Bites Back!

May 8th, 2008

In response to Kimora’s divorce petition, in which she requested that hubby Russell get “reasonable visitation” with their kids, homeboy is telling her to put on the brakes. The hip-hop mogul, whose legal papers cite irreconcilable differences, is seeking joint physical and legal custody of daughters, Ming, 8, and Aoki, 5. Both parties are asking the court to deny spousal support for the other, according to People.

Kimmy wants the kids all to herself, so she and Djimon can look like one big happy, sexy family.

Star Jones Files for Divorce

April 23rd, 2008

No shocker here. Star Jones and hubby Al Reynolds are officially headed for Splitsville.

From TMZ: Jones filed back on March 26, and the couple married back in 2004. She released a statement that reads: “Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life. A month ago I filed for divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone’s life that requires privacy with one’s thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman.”

The End of an Era

March 26th, 2008

It was only a matter of time. Kimora Lee Simmons filed for divorce from Russell Simmons on Tuesday, reports People. The couple, who married in 1998, publicly separated a year ago.

In court papers, Kimora, 32, cites irreconcilable differences and asks for legal and physical custody of the couple’s two daughters, Ming, 8, and Aoki, 5. She requests that Simmons, 50, get “reasonable child visitation … to be accompanied at all times by the children’s nanny and security personnel.

Well, good for her. Russell helped make her a fabulous mogulette. Now she can marry Djimon and have all his babies.

Eddie Crazy

January 24th, 2008

More on the sketchy break-up of Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds. Apparently, dude needs a good anger management program.

From the NY Post: Tracey Edmonds broke up with Eddie Murphy right before they were about to make their Bora Bora wedding legal because Murphy became bossy and physically intimidating, and insisted his mother accompany them on their honeymoon. “That was kind of the last straw,” said a friend of the beautiful bride. “She was happy to sign a prenup — she has her own money. She was very accommodating. But then it was like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Eddie became very controlling and they got into a huge fight. He started screaming at her and grabbed her. She was scared.” The friend added, “She was even willing to change her name to Tracey Murphy, and all the wedding invites and place cards had her labeled as such.”

Wonder if Mel B. is somewhere thanking God she didn’t hook up with her baby daddy?

Catty Kimora?

November 28th, 2007

Just when we thought Kimora Lee Simmons deserved the Best Ex-Wife Ever award, the NY Post’s Page Six is reporting that Ms. Baby Phat has been talkin’ smack about Russell’s girlfriend.

From the Post: The diva ex-model, who’s currently dating Djimon Hounsou, was overheard telling a friend she was “ready to get on with life” after her split from Russell Simmons. The two have seemed to be friendly, with Kimora even throwing Russell a birthday party last month at Guastavino and inviting his new girlfriend, Porschla Coleman. But she was overheard by the same source saying she invited Coleman that night to meet the “major players” because she “wants this stupid b - - - h to get a clue.” “The exes are all very civil, there’s no negativity,” said Kimora’s rep.

Is she capable of this? Naaaah.

Cha-Ching!

November 13th, 2007

Michael Jordan is just used to being no. 1, I guess. The former NBA star and his ex-wife Juanita are now noted with having the most expensive celebrity divorce on record. Can you count $168 million? That’s what Juanita’s getting, in addition to a seven-acre estate in Chicago and custody of their three children. Divorce is ugly, but $168 mil sure makes it go down sweeter. Day-um! After 17 years of marriage, the two are reportedly moving on. Sources say Juanita’s happily dating a banker, 20 years younger than herself, and Michael’s been partyiing with a plethora of honies. C’est la vie.

Shaunie Wants More Shaq

October 10th, 2007

Shaq may want out of the marriage game. But his wife Shaunie seems to think it ain’t over. TMZ.com obtained Shaunie’s response to Shaq’s divorce papers, telling him that she doesn’t think their marriage is “irretrievably broken.” (For the dictionary-deprived among us, “irretrievable” means impossible to recover.) Not only does it sound like Shaunie wants to save their marriage, but she also claims she’s done nothing shady with their finances. Here’s what I think: Shaq being a big-time celebrity and all, I’m sure he just wasn’t around for the Mrs. to tell him she took a couple mil from the family stash and dropped it into a Swiss bank account. And, then it slipped her mind.

I say take her back Shaq! Save the Black family!

What do y’all think? Can this marriage be saved? Should it be?

Celebrity Divorces and the People Who Love Them

September 18th, 2007

Another celebrity marriage bites the dust. Well, the wheels are reportedly turning that way, anyway.

Reports have surfaced that NBA-er Dwayne Wade and his spouse Siohvaughn are calling it quits. This, just barely a month after Shaq filed for divorce from his wife. I’ve checked out a couple of blogs that have been predictably insensitive about whatever it is these folks are going through. Bossip.com had “exclusively” reported that Wade was seen with some lingerie models. The site even goes on to guess that Kobe’s marriage is the next to crumble.

All this breakin’ up got me to thinkin’. Why are we so fascinated with celebrity split-ups? We revel in it, like their divorces are entertainment for us. We get a strange kick out of their misery. Actor Duane Martin and his wife Tisha Campbell had something to say about it when they defended their 17-year marriage against all the gay rumors in Essence.

“Our theory is that it’s really a slave mentality,” said Campbell, commenting on talk that Duane and Will Smith are lovers. “Whenever the Black community has leaders, potential leaders or a family unit, we emasculate them. You don’t ever see them do that to Ben Affleck or Matt Damon. They can be friends, and be powerful individually or collectively and do amazing things.”

Speaking of Will Smith, he and Jada are just another example. People want them to be gay soooo bad, want them to have an “open” marriage sooo bad. But, you know, their love seems to be strong as ever. So what is it, y’all? Talk to me.
