Erykah Goes Off

July 15th, 2008

Erykah and JayErykah on VegNews
She’s got three different baby’s daddies – Andre 3000, West Coast rapper The D.O.C. and the latest Jay Electronica - but Erykah Badu, pregnant with her third spawn (and on the cover of VegNews’ upcoming music issue), says don’t question the way she lives her life.

She lashed out at her critics via a post on okayplayer.com that has made its way around the Internet.

“How dare you disrespect the queendom … and my children and my intelligence,” she wrote in her missive. “I’ve never been so disgusted in all of my life.

“I am a great mother and caregiver to my two children, and to this world. My children are two of the kindest and happiest people I have met … I am their doctor and their nurse, and even sometimes their mother and their father. I am an excellent mother and resent all of the negative comments and insults on my character.

“I put much time and thought into having and raising my children. I’ve had the honors of having two home births and two wonderful partners by my side. Every relationship I have been in was because I loved the person dearly and was dedicated to us ‘exclusively’ for a number of years. The fathers of my children are my brothers and friends. We have a great deal of respect for one another and always will. We love our children to no end. We took our own ‘vows’ and continue to uphold them, and that is what that is. Question? What is marriage? Who is the judge? … Would it ‘look better’ to marry and divorce and marry again?”

If you’re thinking about cancelling your membership to her fan club, she doesn’t care.

“If I lose you as a fan because I want to continue to have children, then f*** off … who needs you … certainly not me … kick rocks … call Tyrone … pack light … bite me,” Badu wrote.

At the end, she signs off with a big “kiss my placenta.”

Now what do you have to say?

I totally agree. So many time people want to look down on women for how many children they have or how many baby daddies they got. That dont matter not one bit. How many women have had numerous children by one man their husbands or whatever and the man or husband has walked out on them. As long as you are taking care of your children (how ever many you have) and there not walking around here looking scraggly, and the government aint taking care of them. Who gives a lovely. Yall need to mind your business and worry abour your own household. Thats what wrong with these world today we are so busy knocking each other down its pathetic. I dont really listen to Ms. Badu music but I applaud her and motherhood. TO HELL WITH THE REST!!!!!!!!!!

I walked down the same innorant road 37 years ago, not knowing or should I say, not even caring about what Jesus expected out of me, when I was living for the world/flesh as opposed to living for the Lord, seeking to find a man to fulfil my needs, I was lost oh so lost, , we ladies and gentlemen need to be found, If you read this and say to yourself, I don’t want to hear this same ole crap, you need Jesus, Jesus is the Truth and The Life, you will find out that if you put him 1st in your life everything, I mean everything, will work out better for you, I had three children also out of wedlock being ignorant to the world and it’s ways, and it ’s not a put down it’s just the facts from the bible/God, marriage is the only way that we bring children into the world and all children should be born within the marriage of two people that plan to love each other and go thru the trials and tribulations of this world. We can change to status of this world one person at a time, simply believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus as our Lord and Savior that he died for our sins ….and we that love him will live right. Don’t you want to meet the savior and walk the streets of gold and have an eternal life with none of this world’s problems?

nobodies knocking how many kids she wants to have or is saying that she doesn’t take care of them. but kiss her placenta?, f@#k off?, and all that other stuff. don’t get mad at us. you do what you do and if it was good and clear in your mind you know you wouldn’t have to tell it like that. regardless of what you feel people think. seems to me a soft spot was hit and i’m not just talking about the children there. notice most of it isn’t doesn’t really seem to be about the children. erykah you should be getting married somewhere or sometime. its a good thing. i am. i know everybody’s life is different, but you’r in the spotlight. but have your kids with different guys and keep having. you’re right…f@#k marriage and just have babies! yeah, right! just silly and i’m suprised all that stuff that was said actually came from you!

I agree totally with Erykah. I mean who can judge anyone in this world today? It is no one’s business who and what people do in their personal lives. Is it affecting you any? I mean really, is it taking food out of your mouth, clothes off your back if Erykah has another baby? Heck no! So, to all those that have a problem with Ms. Badu’s “lifestyle” really should find a hobby than to sit around and down on what she’s doing. So sad. People so need to mind their own business. Power to you Erykah. I am the mother and father to my son and I wouldn’t change the decision of not being with my child’s father for anyone. You do what you have to and need to do. Keep doing what you do girl and keeps the hits dropping.

You know it’s no surprise that people are so ignorant and have no respect all I have to say is sun , moon , stars know who you are and evidently whoever is worrying about Erykah’s “twat “need to mind their own sh**. so what she has three different baby daddies that does not make her no less than the original , black, queen that she is and it sounds to me like somebody wish it was them, and I will say this to you ,if you are that person grow the f**k up and get a life.

God bless you that you have two beautiful kids and a third on the way,you came out so powerful and positive and now you such a filty mouth if your fans doesn’t like, just remember who buys your music and listen to you, children as well as adults, where’s your faith in god with your unkind words and i would think if these three baby’s daddy’s have god and love in there heart that one on them would step up to the plate and marry u or that you would require some form of respect for your children’s.I love music and the money i spend on artist i would like that they have more respect for their fans and themselves u don’t have to every worry about my money going on any of your cd.

I’m a huge fan of Erykah andthe last thing on my mind when I think of her is how many kids or baby “daddies” she has. This women has worked so hard to bring a positive to the thoughts of other events that real black women deal with through her songs . Why can’t we just be happy with her music? I applaud the fact that she’s not making songs saying men are all dogs and fu**k them etc. She is doing what she has to do with raising her children and a man is not needed for that.

Her response was surprising to me though but I’m sure that just came from her feeling attacked about something that shouldn’t matter to the world more so than her music!

Keep moving forward Erykah!!!! Much Love!!

I used to like erykah, but what kind of example is she setting for the next generation, for her own daughter. she is a sad excuse. she should not be praised for having baby daddies. she should not be praised for her failed relationships and children out of wedlock. she can not hold a relationship past the 9 months it takes to make a baby. she is sad and she needs to take a look at herself and see what she is doing is not right. and not try to make excuses and glorify her active sex life and failure to use condoms. is that a stable environment for those children to have all of these men in and out of your mother. No it is not. i call a ?~ a ?~ and a little bast@&$ a little bast@&$. nothing more nothing less. So sad

jada said on July 18th, 2008

does she really think it is good for those children to watch men run in and out of their mother. she needs some morals before her daughter grows up to run through men like the mother does. what is she showing the younger generation. i thought she was supposed to be a strong sister. a strong black woman has respect for herself and should show some class and not give away free @$$ and not use a condom. what about aids. will she give any man a taste. she needs to stop making excuses and learn to close her legs. i bet common is glad that he did not have a child with her. she is disfunctional.
you could catch something other than a child support check. Remember your daughter is watching you and a child will emulate the parent.
Low Class.

Ms. Badu, I support your music and your decision in life. If you can take care of your children you should be able to have as many as you would like. Forget what people think focus on you and your family.

I’m a huge fan of hers, but at the end of the day she wanted to be a star, she wanted to be in the spot light. With that comes criticism and judgment - fair or unfair. Me personally I don’t agree with what she’s doing. There are many young girls and young ladies who look up to her as a role model. Yes your role model she be your parents first, but it is what it is. God instituted marriage for a reason and it’s not something to be taken lightly. I found her comment of marrying, divorcing and marrying again very sad. She obviously does not take stock in what the bible says about marriage, how sacred it is. At the end of the day we all will have to answer for our actions and decision and she is no different. The ridiculous rate of std’s, AIDS from having unprotected sex in the black community is out of this world. I worked at an STD clinic so I saw it first hand for many years. Having several babies daddies is not cute and it never will be cute. It’s not something to glorify, especially for someone in her position where she’s looked up to by young fans.

Yvette said on August 8th, 2008

I too love Erykah’s music, she is no doubt a talented sister, but to keep having unprotected sex with men who are “good brothers and friends” is crazy. I’m not judging Erykah, that’s will be done by God, but in today’s world with all the STD’s killing our black women…it’s just not safe and very ignorant. Children are truly a gift from God, but our society has got to stop giving praise to those people and actions that are keeping us further and further away from the glory of God. A friend tells another when he/she is putting themselves in harms way. We shouldn’t pat them on the back and say “you go girl”. Do you Erykah…but be safe, and I hope you are praying the your children make better decisions than you have.
