For the record: I’m not a woman scorned/angry black woman, I don’t hate myself or people of my race. I see hate within our communities, we are so quick to turn on each other, we don’t know how to stick together, how to support and help or one another. We always ready to get down on the next person. The world has this screwed up views of our race due negativities from the media, some of which are of no faults but our own and then jugde our entire race by one negative aspect. Black folks running around killing each other, do you not see all the violence within our communities? Not that many of us are seek higher education, that’s if we even finish high school. It kills me and very much upsets me to see and know that all the things our people fought for, ie voting, education, freedom, etc we now take all those things for granted for the most part. I get disgusted by things like that. There’s good and bad things in every race/culture and we need to work on the issues that affect us/communities. But I guess somehow this makes me a racist of my own race. The thing is I don’t have to prove my blackness to anyone, it’s what I am and I’m proud of it.

How I’m teaching young kids in my life/community; I try to educate them about black history, black history beyond slavery,the struggles of our people and everything they fought for in the past and up to this day, influential and well to do African Americans to name a few; Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Maya Angelou, Obama, Oprah, Cornell West,Stanley Crouch, Maxine Walters, etc. Some of these people had it tough when they were growing up, but look wehre they are today. They did not let poverty, racism or discrimination get the best of them. I teach them the value and importance of education because that stays with your forever and no one can ever take it away from you. I teach them to have God’s love and compassion for everyone. They contribute 15% of their allowance each month to charity, even though it’s not much it’s the thought behind it… you don’t have to be wealthy to lend a helping hand and when you think you have it worse, chances are there’s always someone out there who has it worse than you. To define themselves and not let the world or anyone tell them who they are.
