The 2009 American Music Awards went down last night at Nokia Theatre in LA and while they’re usually a tame show compared to other music awards because they focus more on performances, last night brought plenty of moments to buzz about.

Of course the night couldn’t go on without Michael Jackson being recognized. Jermaine Jackson accepted four awards on Michael’s behalf. The only time Jermaine didn’t bask in the spotlights on stage was for the Artist of the Year Award, which MJ lost to Taylor Swift (ok where was Kanye during this award? Hopefully somewhere shamed that he put Swift on the radar enough to win an award over the King of Pop). Swift was the big winner of the night winning five awards (including AMA Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist over Beyonce and Lady Gaga, get out of here!). Luckily there was no chaos during the country singer’s acceptance speeches because she wasn’t there.

While there was little drama during the evening there were plenty of high energy performances from some of our favorite artists. Janet Jackson kicked off the evening performing a medley of songs including “Miss You Much.” Rihanna (who was dressed in a bondage outfit that looked like Lady Gaga’s long johns and was still tamer than Gaga’s performance outfit) preformed two songs off of her new album “Rated R.” Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z (who won Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist) and Alicia Keys (who must want to get popped by Mashonda for the song “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart”) all executed solid performances of their latest chart-toppers.

Jennifer Lopez’s performance of her new song “Louboutins” wasn’t so smooth. The singer is nursing a bruise today after falling on her butt when she tried to jump off a human pyramid of half-naked performers. “You miss me?” she asked near the end of the performance. You answer that question.

Whitney Houston took home the AMA International Artist of the Year Award, an honorary award given to to an artist for longevity and international success. The Diva also took to the stage to perform a new hit “Didn’t Know My Own Strength” in a moving performance that brought some of the audience members that were panned, like Reba McEntire to tears. If you blinked you might’ve missed Ray J sitting behind Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Christina. Hmmm, are Ray J and Whitney still special “friends” like the old rumors say? One can only wonder.

All in all it was a well executed show with the usual suspects in the music industry. What was your favorite moment from the night?

The New York Post says that Jay-Z refused to be photographed with any Victoria’s Secret model because he didn’t want to feel the wrath from Royal Creole and wife, Beyoncé.

A source told Page Six: “Victoria’s Secret begged, but Jay-Z refused . . . he explained it was out of respect for Beyoncé.”

Beyoncé doesn’t seem like the jealous type (I mean, she’s Beyoncé), but I wouldn’t want to play with fire either.

One call to Mama Tina about Jay cheating and they might have called the spirit of Agnes Dereon send a root box Hov’s way.

Smart move, Jay. Smart move.

This week’s Beyonce is preggo rumor stems from reports that Jay-Z cancelled the last three dates of his tour to stand by Beyonce’s side as she carries his seed.

Coincidently, a week ago word leaked that Jay was ready for some babies.

However, those waiting for baby Knowles-Carter (or Baby Bey, Half-Pint Hov, whatever)  might want to hold off on congratulating the couple.

Beyonce is still not pregnant and this rumor still won’t die.

If being called Satan’s whore wasn’t bad enough, now Egyptians are calling Beyonce stupid.

That verbatim is how Egyptologist, Zahi Hawass described Bey.

Here’s what the meanest tour guide in all the land had to say about Beyonce:

In a shocking display of poor diplomacy, Egypt’s chief Egyptologist Zahi Hawass allegedly called American pop-star Beyonce a “stupid person” during her brief tour of the Giza pyramids earlier this week. Writing in al-Shorouk newspaper, Summer al-Gamal said that Hawass became fed up with the pop star’s attitude after she did not show the interest Hawass felt was deserved of the pyramids.

According to Gamal, during Hawass’ self-guided tour, he said “I showed her the Sphinx and I gave her a book on King Tutankhamen,” but then his anger and frustration made its way to the forefront.

“Then he stopped being diplomatic and said in anger, ’she’s a stupid person and she doesn’t understand a thing and she doesn’t want to understand,’” wrote Gamal.

Hawass is known for his outbursts. A number of foreigners have told Bikya Masr that he has used Arabic to insult others at dinner events and gatherings, believing the non-Egyptians will not understand his Arabic. Beyonce, obviously, did not understand his jabs, Gamal said.

“She’s coming here to take pictures and that’s it,” Gamal quoted Hawass as saying.

So these pictures of Beyonce and her bodyguard leaving her hotel leaked and some gossip sites have claimed there are remnants of Bey’s ruby red lipstick on her body guard’s lips.

Just last week she was a Satanist; this week she’s a jezebel.

Now maybe I’m on the road to cataracts, but I don’t see any of Beyonce’s shade of red on this guy’s soup coolers (no shade). Do you?

Are people that thirsty for a story that they’re creating an impromptu sequel to The Bodyguard?

Tina Knowles is pushing out another collection from her line “Miss Tina” which features contemporary dresses, shoes and accessories. Beyonce’s mama presented the collection yesterday on HSN, where it’s available for purchase. The line promises to offer “a taste of couture” and help it’s wearers “transition perfectly from fall to holiday.” She lost me with back in 1998 when she was creating Destiny’s Child’s matchy-matchy dresses and costumes but good for her!

Did you see the second part of the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion last night?  I was anticipating less fireworks than last year, especially since I had a feeling that Andy Cohen would ask Kandi about her late fiance AJ’s death –  then, “fifth housewife” Dwight Eubanks came on the stage complaining that he felt like he’d “been in church all day” because of the lack drama. Be careful what you wish for!  The tables quickly turned to Dwight when Kim Zolciak outed him for getting a penile implant.  Surprisingly, Dwight owned up to and even owned it! Think his fiance is happier?

After a two-year hiatus, the Soul Train Awards will return to the BET-launched channel Centric TV on November 29. In the meantime, we’ve got a few exclusive photos of the event which was taped last night in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia World Congress Center.  There’s much more action to come: Beyonce, Maxwell and Keri Hilson lead the nominations for the awards, hosted by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. As you know, Muslims and Christians are the Crips and Bloods of religion so rarely if ever will you see the two sides taking a stand together. But there is a force so great that it can bring these two long divisive sides together.

Still on her world tour, Beyonce’s about to make her way to Egypt and there are religious critics on both sides who think she’s worshipping the devil like Rihanna.

This Friday Beyonce will take the stage in North Africa at the Red Sea Resort of Port Ghalib.

Here’s what Muslim and Christians are saying about Queen Creole:

Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamic movement and staunch opposition of the Mubarak government said the government is trying to divert peoples’ attention from real business of politics by bringing a singer who always appears naked in her video clips to play in Egypt.

Member of Parliament, Hamdi Hassan from the Muslim Brotherhood said: “The government is trying to make people indulge in sin and licentiousness to cover up the other crimes it is committing against them.”

The R&B diva’s stage performances make the eyes tweak. Her provocative dance moves and half-naked outfits could easily stir up reaction from ardent religious and modest people, observers have said. Beyonce who once claimed she is religious and goes to church was quickly slammed by an online Christian group, Jesus-is-saviour.com, “Beyonce is NO Christian. She is satanic, serving the Devil,” it stated.

Poverty is still endemic in Egypt and the ticket fee that has climbed up to US$400 is unreasonable high. Conservative Christians and Muslims in the land of the Pharaoh have questioned what benefit the show brings to the country apart from “immorality”.

Yep, the woman who rarely if ever curses is accused of being Satan’s BFF. Go figure.

Halloween is rapidly approaching and this year amid the ghouls and goblins a popular costume choice will be to dress as a celebrity. Even celebrities are being celebrities: Tyra Banks showed off her Kim Kardashian costume on her show earlier this week (pictured above).

One of my friends mentioned going as Rihanna, complete with a black eye and an umbrella and having her boyfriend be Chris Brown in a community service jump suit (too soon, too soon!), here are some other ideas if you want to be one of the stars.

“Thriller” is always an unofficial Halloween anthem grab a red leather jacket, pants (make sure to show off your white socks) and a jheri curl wig and be the King of Pop in the iconic video. Points if you know the choreography when the song starts playing while you’re partying.

With a cheap weave ponytail, a bedazzled shirt and jeans you too can be ‘Lil Mama. Run up on folks and interrupt their conversations while breaking into a thug stance or have a friend be Jay-Z (all black everything, easy enough).

Rock locks, add fake tattoos on your neck and face (don’t forget the teardrop), get a grill and you’ve got Weezy F. Baby. Just don’t break out into “Lollipop” if little trick-or-treaters are around.
