LaLa Will Chronicle Wedding for TV

Published by Runteldat on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:50 am.

LaLa Vasquez has officially learned a lot from her friend, Kim Kardashian.

Indeed, the former VJ will turn her wedding into a reality TV event.

VH1 has announced that LaLa and her soon to be husband, Carmelo Anthony, will take part in a five-series chronicling their pending nuptials.

Per the Press release:

The series begins with the betrothed couple, Lala and Carmelo, meeting with A-list wedding planner to the stars Mindy Weiss and follows them through all the wedding planning festivities. Viewers will ride along as Lala shops for the perfect designer wedding dress, chooses the wedding venue, picks out the ultimate wedding cake and menu, plans their honeymoon, and contemplates the guest list, all while maintaining her and Carmelo’s hectic schedules.

Along the way viewers will also get a glimpse at Lala’s celeb-hosted bachelorette party in Las Vegas, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the couple as they gather with their family and friends to prepare for the big day. The series will culminate in a 90-minute lavish celebrity-filled wedding finale in New York that only this superstar couple could host.

What’s more beautiful than love? Love that can be pimped for profit and publicity, of course. And no, I mean it. The economy hasn’t completely bounced back yet.

LaLa and Melo’s series will premiere on Monday, September 13 on VH1.

LaLa On Her Career, Melo on Proposing

Published by Runteldat on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 11:50 am.

Despite most of us first meeting La La Vazquez as a radio and TV personality there’s a perception among some who feel she’s using Carmelo Anthony for his money.

In her cover story in the April 2010 Issue of Latina magazine, LaLa touched on how she started her career at the age of 16 and addressed some of the hearsay about her relationship with Melo.

And Carmelo also chimed in with why it took them so long to marry.

LaLa on being a radio personality at the age of 16:

“I would get off the air at 6, take a shower, and go straight to school,” recalls La La of her early radio days as a 16-year-old on-air personality during the overnight shift in Atlanta. When Ludacris got his own show, La La had to hold her own as his sidekick. “They didn’t want me there,” she told Latina. “We joke about it now. But I had to fight to hang on to my spot.

LaLa on those who questioned how far her relationship with Carmelo would go:

Even with all that I’ve accomplished on my own, I know the story out there about me: ‘[Carmelo] ain’t gonna marry her. She got that ring but now he’s making her wait. He don’t really love her…’ For once…I’d like to tell the story as it is. Not as it’s told.”

Carmelo on why it took so long for them to marry:

“I wasn’t making her wait. If anything, I was waiting for her to slow down. She was doing her own thing, handling her business and we were happy. When it was time to take it to the next step we did. Period.”

Lala on how Carmelo proposed:

“It was Christmas Eve. We were in bed. And he said, La La, I love you. I want to be with you forever. Will you marry me?”

Lala on responses to the essay she penned about being both black and Latino:

“The essay,” she says solemnly. “The responses hurt.” She’s speaking of a first person piece she recently wrote for on being Puerto Rican, in which she explained that, since childhood, people have often assumed that she is black. “Which I am!” she says, almost yelling. “But I am also 100 percent Puerto Rican and I’m proud of that. People got it twisted and thought I was saying, I’’m Puerto Rican. I’m not black. That isn’t what I was saying. It’s just that when I tell someone I’m Puerto Rican, I don’t want to hear someone say, ‘You ain’t Puerto Rican. You black.’ As if I can only be one or the other. Do I look like Jennifer Lopez? No. Clearly, I’m a black woman. However you want to define that, that’s what I am. And I’m also a Spanish-speaking Puerto Rican woman. Period.”

LaLa on Melo & Marriage

Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11:30 am.

After being engaged to Carmelo Anthony for so long, LaLa Vasquez was given a bit of scrutiny over allegedly “setting bad examples” for promoting “shacking up.”

In an interview with A Word For My Sistas, the seemingly soon-to-be but not quite yet Mrs. Carmelo Anthony answered some of her critics.

Onetta: I hear wedding bells in the near future. Are you guys planning a summer wedding?

Lala: We are planning. I honestly don’t have many details yet. I always get asked the question about marriage and being engaged for so long. My answer to that is it has worked this way for us. I’m not saying this is the way for everyone, but we have moved at our own speed and it has worked. People tend to believe since we’ve been engaged for so long that something is up, we are not happy, or my all time favorite one, “he’s never gonna marry her!” Does being married automatically mean two people are happy? Mel and I took the time out to get to know each other, inside and out. We took time to learn about our likes and our dislikes. After having our son, we both feel ready to take that step. It’s very important to us and it’s the example we want to set for our son. Although everyone may not agree, I’m glad we did it this way.

So I can’t pretend to know these two and their relationship, but I can say her wording makes her an easy target. They’re engaged, they have a child together yet they’ve been waiting to get to know each other’s likes and dislikes?

This is after he knocked you up and proposed? LaLa seems sweet, but she needs to go back, reread and rephrase. I don’t think she meant it how it was worded.

But on a warm and fuzzy note:

Onetta: Let’s get a little personal. LOL! You and Mr. Carmelo have been holding it down for a while now? What do you love most about Carmelo?

Lala: I love Melo because he has taught me the importance of not taking certain things so seriously. He always has such a calm spirit, even in the face of heavy turmoil. I admire that about him. I’ve learned so much from just watching him in certain situations. But most importantly, he is a great dad to our son Kiyan. I thank God every night for blessing my son with such a great father. Their relationship is awesome!

Onetta: If I could ask Carmelo what he loves most about you, what do you think he would say?

Lala: I think you would have to ask him that! LOL!

She seems happy, so good for her.

Kelis Cries Broke

Published by Dior Noir on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

kelisYesterday, my girls and I were talking about how much we miss Kelis’ music (we still go hard to Wonderland to this day), well apparently she needs to drop another album with that baby because mama is crying broke!

TMZ reported the singer’s recession confession: “I have run out of money,” she said.

Besides wanting a divorce, Kelis also wants Nas to pay up! She’s asking a judge to grant her spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, one-half of all medical expenses after the child is born, $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child’s birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies.

Somewhere a group of brothers are screaming, “We want prenup!”

What’s funny is that Kelis claims: “My survival is based on [Nas'] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.

(Ahem, Kelis, letting your bills go to hell if someone else doesn’t pay them is not Bossy!)

But then she turns around and says that while living the high life with her estranged hubby: “There were many expensive pieces [of jewelry] such as a princess-cut diamond tennis bracelet that was recently appraised for $190,000. My engagement ring is an approximately nine-carat cushion-cut diamond solitaire. I have numerous watches…such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller and Chopard.

Girl you better take that mess to the pawn shop! Or get tips from Lala Vazquez how to hustle up money from stuff around the house. I keep seeing her Twitter updates asking folks to spread the word that she’s selling her pink Range Rover on Ebay.

Either way, get it together! Cause, right or wrong, Nas already said he’s not coming off of his dead Presidents.

Do you think Kelis should get all of the financial aid she’s requesting from Nas?

Guess Who

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 12:00 am.

Contributor: Runteldat

There’s a rumor going around about an NBA wife (or baby mama who isn’t going anywhere) that’s turning straight chicks out.

Via the Panache Report:

“She may be or may not be African American. She hit the lotto when she snagged a baller and later gave birth to a child. She’s set for the next 18 years. Perfect smoke screen. What few people know, she’s on the down low and likes the ladies. She gets off on turning straight women out and she’s very aggressive when she sees a woman she likes. She had a down low fling with a notorious video girl who’s rumored to be ‘not too clean.’ They were hitting the sheets on the regular, they eventually broke up but remain close friends. Allegedly, her desires are really with women and men are considered a business who she uses for money and financial security?”

People are trying to pin this on ex-VJ LaLa Vasquez.  The rumor mill seems to be working overtime with her.

I suppose the “may or may not be African American” may apply because LaLa claims to be Puerto Rican (although quite a few of them are just bilingual Black folks who can swim).

Still, this seems really far fetched so unless someone has some sort of proof LaLa channels her inner Cleo, I’m gonna continue thinking LaLa only plays for Team Melo.

Leave LaLa Alone

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 12:00 pm.

Contributor: Runteldat

Folks were giving LaLa Vasquez all sorts of grief over being ejected from Monday’s game between the Denver Nuggets and the Dallas Mavericks.

It seems many were quick to believe that an overzealous LaLa got out of pocket with Dallas fans over her baby daddy Carmelo Anthony and was told to take her happy self out of the building.

LaLa however has responded to all the chat across the web via a statement from her publicist:

La La Vazquez became distressed during a heated playoff game, after being verbally attacked by some opposing fans, who were using racial slurs, calling her child crude names and throwing ice cubes. She sent her son home early and was preparing to leave herself when she was physically pushed. Although shaken, she left the premises on her own will and is happy to be at home with her fiancée and child.

“Obviously the play-offs games bring out the best and the worst in fans but what happened on Monday night with the racial slurs/threats, verbal attacks on my son and physical attacks to myself by irate fans was unacceptable,” states La La. “The fans were totally out of control. What the cameras captured was me defending myself and didn’t show the abuse that was taking place.”

In other words, LaLa wasn’t the jackass, some of the Mavericks fans were. I can’t say that I’m surprised. You won’t just find the Stanky Legg down in the D. Just look at Mark Cuban.
