Looks like Breezy’s setting up for the comeback! According to MTV.com Chris Brown is scheduled to headline Power 105.1’s Powerhouse concert in New Jersey on October 27th (that’ll be a nice break for him from his 180-day hard labor sentence in Virginia!). The show, which will also feature Fabolous, The Dream, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson and Mario, will be the first major promotional event that Chris has participated in to push his upcoming album Graffiti. What do you think about the concert: is it too soon for Chris to be back on the scene or has he suffered enough?
From good news to bad news: rapper Eve told TheYBF.com that she permanently shut down her Fetish clothing line due to “legal reasons” and she also confirmed she has left her label Geffen Records. Ouch! Times may be hard or maybe Eve is just on to the next thing and focusing more on her acting interests. She’s in the upcoming Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page movie Whip It! and will be guest starring on the Fox TV show Glee for two episodes.
There might have been even more you missed from The 6th Annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors which was taped this week! Apparently Russell Simmons was not at all happy with the show that show which commemorated the 25th anniversary of Def Jam Records. Rumor has it that Russell, who co-founded Def Jam, sent an email out to the show’s executive producer and called the show “incomplete at best.” He allegedly said that not having Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye, Damon Dash, LL Cool J, or Irv Gotti involved hurt the show and said that he wasn’t feeling having a comedian host (Tracy Morgan hosted the awards). The show is scheduled to air on October 13th on VH1 so set your DVRs and judge for yourself. In the meantime, have a great weekend! We’ll chat with you next week!

If you remember Maia Campbell as the bubbly character “Tiffany” from LL Cool J’s 90’s sitcom In The House or as the daughter of the late, notable author BeBe Campbell Moore you were probably appalled to see her sitting in a car looking disheveled and cursing through a mouthful of chips in the disturbing video that hit the internet last week. Though rumors of the actress being on drugs and possibly into prostitution are still spreading over the internet, the good news is Maia’s getting help.
Nancy Carter, a friend of Maia’s late mother and executive director of National Alliance on Mental Illness contacted BlackWeb2.0 and revealed that Maia is diagnosed with bi-polar/manic depression and struggles with substance abuse on top of the illness which only complicates things. Thankfully, the actress is taking steps to get well. From the article:
“Maia is in treatment. [Nancy] said that there is hope for Maia’s recovery but the prayers of ‘50,000,000′ people can make the difference, because Maia doesn’t like to stay in treatment, and her treatment involves drug withdrawal as well as treatment for her disorders. She asked me to tell you that Maia’s disorders are exasperated and sent out of control by substance abuse. Pre-existing and early onset bi-polar, clinical depression and schizophrenia can be sent out of control by marijuana (the worst culprit), alcohol and of course, synthetic and street drugs. Maintain your hope for Maia’s recovery. Nancy said, ‘She can use her beauty, talent, and celebrity for the good of others.‘”
Although it’s still disgusting to me that Maia was exploited in that awful home video, hopefully it was as big of an eye opener to her family and friends as it was to the public and we all give her the room and support she’ll need on her road to recovery.
Be well Maia, our prayers are with you.

I appreciate LL Cool J. I used to bop my head to “I Need Love” when I barely had teeth, and loved “Doin’ It” despite only being in 7th grade (don’t be like me, though, kids). Having said that, I can’t remember the last time I’ve played an LL Cool J song. Can you?
I thought so, which leads me to this question: If people don’t listen to LL Cool J like that anymore, why would anyone want to dress like him?
When I think of the words LL Cool J and fashion my only memory is of him with one pant legged rolled up. The last time that was hot was back when we used to call him Marion Hill.
That’s why I’m not surprised that Sears will discontinue LL’s line due to poor sales.
LL not the only one when a failing line either. A while back there were rumors that Snoop Dogg’s clothing line was suffering from fledging sales.
Andre 3000’s clothing line Benjamin Bixby was launched last year and has also reportedly had problems moving merchandise. Shocker that many people aren’t willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a sweater from a rapper in a recession.
T.I. has a line that he’s trying to push. So does Jeezy. So do the Clipse. Soulja Boy mentioned doing one. Bow Wow’s said to be trying another line, too.
But with so many lines outside of Sean John and Rocawear fledging, is it time for rappers to stop channeling their inner designer and find a new side hustle?

It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone that an oiled up muscle man gets a lot of attention from both women and men. On the other hand, rappers welcome homosexuals almost as nicely as Klan members would India.Arie at a rally.
That being said, it’s surprising to see LL Cool J respond so calmly (re: without uttering a slur) to the paps asking him, “If you get hit on by a gay guy, does that change your nickname?”
He said: “No, just expands your options. Decisions, decisions…”
That’s a nice response specially when you consider that the constant lick-lipper has been branded homophobic in the past by RuPaul.
As stupid as that question was LL handled it well – and now he’s being punished for it. TMZ has a headline up asking if he’s gay. I don’t think so, but if did have a secret boyfriend, can’t we just let his wife deal with that and see that a non homophobic response from a rapper doesn’t go unnoticed?
If we automatically assume he’s gay for brushing off a loaded question, won’t that incite the fear and ignorance LL may only now being getting over?
This is why some straight men are reluctant to say anything remotely tolerant of gays. Isn’t that right, Kanye?

Kanye West along with Chris Brown and Rihanna kicked things off at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans Friday night.
The three-day festival runs until Sunday and Jill Scott, Patti LaBelle and Men’s Fitness cover boy LL Cool J headline Saturday’s lineup.

No real good reason to post a pic of LL all swole up. Though spies recently caught the legendary rapper pumping iron for five hours straight at Club H on East 34th Street in preparation for a Men’s Health cover. Looking forward to that.
