Don’t Blame Melyssa Ford

So while we got the word that Nelly and Ashanti broke up, is the rapper now spending time with Melyssa Ford?

According to the source of the original report, Nelly was spotted with “video vixen Jessica Rabbit.” “Jessica Rabbit,” is of course the nickname of Ford.

So is that his new chick?

NO! And Melyssa Ford wants you to stop confusing the two this instance.

The model-actress took to her Twitter profile (where else do celebrities go these days to clear the air…or make dirt these days?) to refute the rumors.

She tweeted:

“NO! I am NOT The “Jessica Rabbit” that is rumored to have broken Nelly&Ashanti up! That’s some reality show chick who’s making my life hell!

These f*cking blogs disgust me! And everyone takes what they say as if it was a verse in a Bible!!!! IT’S NOT ME!

How seriously is a nick name taken? Obviously a lot since this chick from Real Chance at Love is using the name and now I have the problems!

Why do I need to be woken up with this BULLSH*T??? Why do I have to field the calls from media? I was just minding my own damn business!”

First off, it wasn’t a blogger that started this, it was a New York newspaper. Secondly, a simple “no, it’s not me would suffice,” right?

I was still with her, though, until I came across this:

“The sh-t that makes me mad is no one cares when I do work in the community; homeless the homeless and working with kids…drawing attention to the things that affect our community like AIDS Awareness and Prevention… NO ONE CARES! Just what I’m wearing…..who am I dating…where the hell are people’s priorities??? I’m a HUMAN BEING! Anyone who thinks this sh*t doesn’t hurt is WRONG!”

I understand she wants to show more sides to her, but if your fame is rooted in your appearance – namely your body in music videos – should you be shocked that most people only care about the superficial?

Lola: Karrine Made It Hard For Video Girls

Published by Runteldat on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 11:50 am.

Melyssa Ford isn’t the only one out there trying to save the image of video girls.

When asked about video girl stereotypes and its most famous perpetuator, Karrine Steffans, Angel Lola Luv didn’t mince words and made it clear that Karrine, her jaw, and those books she’s penned are what give video girls a bad name.

In the video, the video vixen turned femcee branded her selfish and hungry for money – accusing her of making it difficult for other women who try to use videos as a springboard to other career in entertainment.

She’s since elaborated on her comments via a blog entry on Global Grind.

Here’s an excerpt:

“There are a lot of different reasons why I could never ride with the choices that ‘Superhead” made. I feel as though she played a major part in people really believing that all video vixens are just like her. Which is TOTALLY wrong! There is a difference between a ‘Video Vixen/Model’ and a ‘Video Hoe/Groupie.’  From the way they conduct themselves, their mentality and of course their agenda!  The perceptions that people have of me and most video models are the total opposite of reality. They see things from the outside. So they have no idea about what goes on behind the scenes with the ones that do this to benefit themselves in a positive way. In order to book me for any gig or video people would get in contact with my manager. I wouldn’t meet these artists until I got on set. While on set I didn’t fraternize with the artists. I would either be shooting or waiting in the trailer until it was my time. As soon as I was done shooting I would leave. If anyone asked for my contact they would either get directed to my manager if she was nearby or I would give them her contact info. If they were really trying to do business then they wouldn’t have a problem getting in contact with her.”

I’m sure some people would argue pot meet kettle, but to be fair, Lola has every right to say not everyone hangs around the video set hoping to slurp their way to stardom.

Video Girls Think, Too

Published by Runteldat on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 11:50 am.

There’s this theory about video girls (usually called something else): They’ll spread their legs for any rapper that will let them bend over enough times in their videos to net a King cover (R.I.P.).

Melyssa Ford, however, has always stood up against the stereotype that every video vixen gets their Karrine Steffans on behind the scenes.

Gracing the cover of J’Adore magazine, Ms. Ford spoke on her experiences in the world of hip-hop videos and the male chauvinists she’s had to encounter.

Ford said:

“Addressing misconceptions, she adds, ‘When I come across the opportunity to talk, people are kind of surprised that I have some degree of intelligence.’

I was making my way through this male-dominated business with my partner and manager, Daniella Cobb, and we would be in meetings where we would wrap up a meeting with whomever, and the ensuing question would be, ‘So when are we going to f–k?’ It was frustrating; my reaction was like, ‘Were you present in this meeting!? Do you understand that that’s not why we’re here?!’ Women have to walk a fine line in this business. You’ve got to act like steel magnolias. You’ve got to be firm and ladylike, and know exactly what you want in order to make it in this business and what you’re talking about. As a woman, you have to take what you want by force, but analyze how that force has to be used.”

If I’m being honest, when I read a blog entry from Melyssa about global warming, my initial reaction was, “Shouldn’t she be fonting about twirking?”

But the post was actually well thought out and didn’t make me want to curse the person who bought her a keyboard. She showed me.

Melyssa is absolutely right in saying you can’t judge every book by its cover…or in her case thong.

Your Invite to Ne-Yo’s Birthday Party

Published by DeMarco Williams on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 11:23 am.

As you can imagine, on the evening of the BET Hip Hop Awards, there were all kinds of parties to get into. Unlike most of the action at Atlanta-area clubs though, Ne-Yo’s birthday celebration at Mason Murer art gallery had a theme that went beyond bottle-popping.
