Kanye might be going through a life spiral right now but his girl Amber Rose is still doing her thing! Earlier this week she turned up at Elle magazine’s 16th Annual Women in Hollywood event looking classy in a hip-hugging red dress and at the event she told the LA Times she doesn’t plan on giving up those curves anytime soon. She spoke about her contract with Ford Modeling Agency and said “I told them, Don’t ask me to grow out my hair or lose any weight. I want to represent real women who have curves.” I like that she’s keeping it real! She agreed not get any more tattoos until her contract is up, but when it is she wants a full sleeve tat. That woman could pull off almost anything!

Baby Makes Three

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton are expecting their first child. The couple were high school sweethearts and married in 2005. The baby news comes just weeks after Paula told Giant magazine she had “stopped taking birth control” in an effort to get pregnant. Congrats to the happy couple!  In addition to expanding their family, both the Thickes have new projects coming out. Robin’s latest single, ‘Sex Therapy,’ was released this week and Paula stars in the upcoming movie “Precious” (just went to a screening last night and it is heavy. Go see it when it hits theaters November 6th!).

The “Sixth” Housewife

The second season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta ended last night, but despite continuing to be portrayed as Nene’s “gay boyfriend” Dwight Eubanks sat down and told the folks at Black Voices that he doesn’t discriminate. “If I wanted to be with a woman, I will be with a woman, and if I want to be with a guy, then I will be with a guy,” he declared. “I like all fruits, but I do have a problem with [people] dwelling on ‘Dwight the gay housewife.’ Let’s get to know Dwight.” Dwight confirmed with Essence back in April that he’s engaged to a woman. I’d be interested to see him on his own show, but he doesn’t know if that will be a reality. Black Voices reported that he not sure what network execs have in mind for his own show. He added, “most days I don’t know what to do with myself. I know I am a lot.”

Speaking of Housewives Kandi Burruss is the next cast member to be bitten by the fashion bug! Luckily Dwight wont have to call her “dreadful” because she’s not trying to design. She recently opened a boutique called TAGS in Atlanta with her business partner Peaches Chin. Wonder if the boutique will carry “fashions” from She by Sheree and Closet Freak (Lisa Wu Hartwell’s line)?

That’s all for this week, we’ll be back on Monday!

Mary J. Blige and Robin Thicke are coming to Atlanta over the weekend. Though involved parties won’t blame the pissy economy outright, it’s safe to say show promoter Live Nation hasn’t been terribly thrilled with ticket sales. Read the rest of this entry »

Sorry Robin, Ciara Covers VIBE

Published by Carrie Blackshaw on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 2:49 pm.

If you had a choice of a nude Ciara or Robin Thicke, presumably dressed, on the cover of your magazine, who would you choose? VIBE chose the former.

It’s the third VIBE cover for Ciara, who in the article opens up about her love life, addresses rumors that she is dating 50 Cent, discusses the eclectic new sound of her upcoming third album, “Fantasy Ride,” and confirms her split from long-time producer Jazzy Pha. Other highlights include:

Ciara on dealing with fame: “I was meticulous about the things I would share…But people are gonna say what they wanna say…They said I was a man! It doesn’t get any worse than that.”

Ciara offers dating advice: “You don’t have to sell yourself out. Take your time to get to know somebody before you involve the physical aspect…It’s just not the way to start off. It creates confusion. When you subtract those things, it allows you to focus more on who the person is.”

Robin shouldn’t feel badly. At least he was mentioned on the cover. He recently popped off in Billboard about coveting the cover of VIBE but being rejected:

When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, “Why can’t I get the cover?
This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe.” Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is. And I respect that because I live in a house with a black
woman.

I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough — but rewarding — fight.

Danyel Smith, vice president & editorial director, VIBE Media Group, and editor-in-chief, VIBE, issued the following statement yesterday in response to Robin’s comments:

“We have a great deal of respect for Robin Thicke and his music, and we remain flattered by his desire to be on a VIBE cover. A VIBE cover is a huge milestone in any artist’s career — recent cover stars include Young Jeezy, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Usher, Senator Barack Obama, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Robert De Niro, to say nothing of our 15-year history. We wish Thicke the best, and we’re glad he discusses his thoughts on race and R&B in the new October 2008 issue of VIBE.”
