Jeffrey Wright’s wrong move
July 14th, 2008

Shreveport, La., experienced a bit of excitement over the weekend with the arrest of actors Jeffrey Wright and Josh Brolin and four others for interfering with police, a misdemeanor, at a bar. This is, after all, a city whose police department sought the public’s help in tracking down two thugs who snatched a woman’s purse inside a Sally’s Beauty Supply. I kid you not. A press release went out last Thursday.
So you can imagine the hoopla surrounding police and Hollywood actors in town to film Oliver Stone’s movie W., about George W. Bush. Seems as if Wright, who plays Gen. Colin Powell in the film, Brolin, who portrays Bush, and a few crew members stepped in when police were called to the Stray Cat to handle a drunk patron early Saturday morning. All seven (another crew member was arrested on other charges) posted bail, were released and have a mandatory court appearance.
“I can only assume that the officers were trying to do their job,” a police department spokesman told me today, “and drunk individuals don’t make the best judgment at all.”
Well, at least as far as mug shots go, Jeffrey’s (above) isn’t bad.
Thandie Newton plays Condoleeza Rice in the flick. Wonder where she was during all this.
