For Sale: Whitney Houston’s New Jersey Mansion

Published by Dior Noir on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

Whitney Houston has already said bye bye to her ex-husband Bobby Brown with a divorce in 2007, and now the singer is trying to part ways with the house the two got married at in 1992.

According to the Associated Press, the singer is putting up her Menham, New Jersey home for sale with an asking price of $2.5 million, although it’s valued at $5.6 million.

Whoever buys the modern-styled mansion will be in for a beautiful home. The property is five-bedrooms, 12,561-sq.-ft. and the real estate website where it’s listed describes other perks including “circular-themed interior spaces,” as well as a four-car garage, three fireplaces, walk-in closets, a bar and skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows.

During the end of her marriage to Bobby, Whitney moved to Atlanta. She and her daughter, Bobbi, currently reside in Los Angeles. Selling the old house isn’t the only fresh start that Whitney has made recently. Her comeback album, “I Look to You,” was the first album she recorded in seven years and it debuted at  No. 1 on the Billboard charts when it dropped at the end of August. It seems like the songbird is  trying to pick up the pieces of her rocky past and move on in general.  Go Whitney!

Bobby on Whitney: It Helped Kill Her Bisexual Rumors

Published by Runteldat on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 12:00 am.

whitney-bobby-wedding

There have always been rumors that Whitney Houston might have a thing for ladies in addition to rocks and rocky men, but since we don’t sleep with Nippy it’s been none of our business.

But a man who has slept in the same bed as the famed singer has apparently entertained those lesbian rumors himself.

In his tell-all book, Brown: The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But.…, Bobby Brown has accused Whitney of getting married to “clean up her image”.

Bobby writes:

“[The marriage] was doomed from the very beginning. I think we got married for all the wrong reasons. Now, I realize Whitney had a different agenda than I did when we got married.

I believe her agenda was to clean up her image, while mine was to be loved and have children.

The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship with her assistant, Robin Crawford.

Since she was the American Sweetheart and all, that didn’t go too well with her image.

In Whitney’s situation, the only solution was to get married and have kids. That would kill all speculation, whether it was true or not.”

Whitney Houston Didn’t Want Chaka’s Help

Published by Runteldat on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:50 am.

chaka-khanChaka Khan says Whitney Houston threw her shade when she offered her services to get off that “rock cocaine.”

Chaka told Britain’s OK! Magazine:

“I love her [Whitney Houston] very much, but we’re not close any more. I reached out, but she doesn’t want my help. Maybe she thinks I’m going to confront her, but after what I’ve been though, c’mon…”

If your aunty and them never told you, Chaka used to be a dope fiend herself.

Chaka Khan actually helped Nippy kick off her career by recruiter a then teenage Nippy to sing background vocals on my favorite Chaka album, Naughty. And if you noticed on Nippy’s cover of Khan’s classic “I’m Every Woman,” the two were quite friendly in the video.

Sad to see their friendship has declined over the years. Ask your mama to dig up her old copy of Naughty and play the track “Papillion (aka Hot Butterfly).” Nippy, mama Cissy Houston, and the late Luther Vandross are all doing background vocals.

After that you can go back to jerking.

Whitney vs. Oprah? Yeah, Right…

Published by Runteldat on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 11:50 am.

oprah-whitney

When Whitney Houston sat down on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah looked like she wanted to ask Whitney for an autograph. Likewise, Whitney seemed as if she wanted to tell the world that O was her play cousin.

It was a love fest between two people who seemed to genuinely care about each other. Of course, now a tabloid is saying one hates the other person’s guts.

Per the National Enquirer:

“Bad blood has been simmering between the superstars for years over Whitney’s struggle with drugs – and their secret feud exploded off camera when the pop diva angrily blasted Oprah as a liar!

‘Whitney knew Oprah’s show could help her clean up her tarnished image after years of drug use and her troubled marriage to Bobby Brown – and Oprah knew the interview could help her sagging TV ratings,’ says an insider.

‘But Whitney felt Oprah needed her more than she needed Oprah. Whitney was contacted by various media outlets vying for the ‘big get’ interview with her during her comeback campaign.’

Whitney, 46, had her pick of the litter, but chose Oprah because she wanted to appeal to her viewers and knew that if Oprah pushed her too far during the interview she was going to push back and expose some of Oprah’s own secrets!

‘Whitney will never forget that when she was down and out, Oprah wanted nothing to do with her,’ an insider told The Enquirer. And that pissed-off Whitney to no end . . .”

I trust the results of Amy Winehouse passing a drug test than I do the Enquirer.  What happened — did Jennifer Aniston have a slow week?

Bobby on Whitney: ‘We Corrupted Each Other’

Published by Dior Noir on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

Whitney and Bobby

From drug use to abuse Whitney Houston shared dirty details of her stormy marriage to Bobby Brown in a highly anticipated interview with Oprah that aired yesterday, and while she called him her “drug” and said she “was so weak to him,” the “King of R&B” responded with his own take on the relationship.

In a sit down with Insider that also aired yesterday, Bobby said: “I think we corrupted each other. I don’t think she hurt me or I hurt her in any way. I just think we had a 14-year marriage that had its ups and downs, and not many people understood it.

Other tidbits from Bobby’s sit down with reporter Chris Jacobs:

On how often he used drugs: I used an awful lot and can’t take that back.”

On his drug of choice:Cocaine, it’s a powerful drug.

On why he used:I just think I was bored. I had just gotten married, and things [weren’t] right. Unfortunately, I turned to alcohol and drugs.”

On the night he first met Whitney: That’s one of the things I try to forget.

On his feelings about Whitney’s tell-all interview with Oprah:If there’s something that she says that is untrue or disrespectful then I’ll deal with that with her.

We’ve already heard a lot of details of their relationship in the past, heck, they even had a reality TV stint that gave us an inside look (remember Bravo’s  Being Bobby Brown that aired in 2005?), but for whatever reason the world still can’t get enough of the Whitney Bobby show!

What do you think about these interviews? Who’s side are you on?

Whitney Houston Performs on Good Morning America

Published by Dior Noir on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 10:00 am.

whitney houston

Did you catch Whitney Houston on Good Morning America today?  What did you think? After all the buzz surrounding this pre-taped performance I had to tune in.

Fans went wild in Central Park holding up signs for the diva, highly anticipating her first comeback performance.  Whit hit the stage energized and kicked off the performance singing (and not lip synching I should add) “Million Dollar Bill,” a song co-written by Alicia Keys for Ms. Houston’s long-awaited new album “I Look to You.”  She tipped the mic toward the audience so they could sing along on a couple occasions to give her voice a break and took advantage of the song’s lyrics, “throw your hands up in the air,” to pump the mic in the air, but she made it through the number.

I’m overwhelmed, the love the support your prayers means so much to me…I never left!” Whitney declared while catching her breath after the song. GMA hosts Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer joined her on stage and Diane recalled the last time she saw Whitney during an interview: “Seven years ago, looking in each others’ eyes, it was a very different world then. I was worried for you.” Whitney responded: “Well don’t be worried anymore. If you know God don’t be worried,” and the crowd erupted in cheers.

Next Whitney preformed “My Love Is Your Love” and even brought daughter Bobbi Kristina on stage to sing for a split second. Not sure that there’s a singing career in the cards for Bobbi, but it was a cute moment.

Another endearing moment came by way of the next song, the new album’s title track, “I Look to You,” which Whitney dedicated to her mother, singer Cissy Houston, who was tearing up in the front row.

Right before breaking into her final, crowd-pleasing number, “I’m Every Woman,” Whitney apologized to the audience members for her vocal performance, though the apology was not seen on-camera. According to New York Daily News, off camera, Whitney said: “I’m so sorry. I did ‘Oprah.’ I’ve been talking for so long. … I talked so much, my voice,” she said, trailing off. “I shouldn’t be talking. I should be singing.”

The crowd seemed to forgive her and show her love anyway (to be fair, Whitney’s rep confirmed that she was only supposed to sing two songs). Even if her voice isn’t exactly the same, how many singers can claim the same amount of success that Whitney Houston has had in her career?  The fact that she’s still singing at all, after all these years, is pretty admirable to me. I’m really rooting for Whitney as she makes her comeback rounds.

Next up: that Oprah appearance that airs September 14, which is supposed to include another performance and a no holds barred interview that touches many of  Whitney’s controversies over the years. Stay tuned!

Whitney Houston is Not a Morning Person

Published by Dior Noir on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 3:00 pm.

whitney

Whitney Houston is all set up for a comeback but according to Page Six the singer refuses to exercise her pipes early in the morning.

When she appears on Good Morning America in September apparently Whitney will not be singing live for the 7:30am performance, instead the song will be pre-taped the day before.

Newbie singers might be forced to actually sing live, but according to Page Six’s sources because Whit is such an icon the producers couldn’t say no to the arrangement. “She’s the music ‘get’ of the season. They are so happy to have her,” an insider said.

I wonder if she’s really not a fan of the AM or if her voice is just too shot to pull off that early of a performance?  While she was once regarded as “The Greatest Voice of All” Whitney has recently drawn criticism that her voice is also cracked, and she can’t hit her high notes the way she used to. Lackluster performances of her own hits such as “I Will Always Love You” (which she’s been singing at medium power instead of sanging and blowing the top notes at high octaves like she’s done in the past) have made some wonder if her voice will ever be the same again.

Either way,  it seems the diva is back.

Whitney Houston ‘I Look To You’ Album Preview

Last night, the legendary Clive Davis hosted a listening session for Whitney Houston’s new album I Look To You, which is in stores September 1st.  Held at Jazz @ Lincoln Center in New York City, the event was packed with stars like Martha Stewart, Gayle King, Dionne Warrick, Alicia Keys (in the house with Swizz Beats!) LA Reid, Andre Harrell, Diane Sawyer, BET’s own Debra Lee and Stephen Hill – and the iconic Whitney Houston, who was absolutely stunning.  She looked happy, grateful and beautiful.  When Whitney hit the stage for a small speech the person next to me said,”That’s m*thaf**kin’ Whitney Houston!“  The diva received a standing ovation from a crowd (and the world!) who has been waiting for the return of the original pop-soul diva.

I was lucky enough to attend and here is a preview of the seven new tracks that were played (two leaked tracks were played, “Like I Never Left” featuring Akon and “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster). I wasn’t able to catch every producer’s name or the exact lyrics so the credits are subject to change.  Note: Clive Davis did stress the songs were still being polished.

1. “Million Dollar Bill” (written and produced by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats)

An up-tempo, joyful track about love and probably one of the funkiest songs Whitney has ever done. “Million Dollar Bill” has an amazing bass line and almost recalls early Michael Jackson in Off The Wall. The catchy hook, “You make me feel like a million dollar bill.” Her vocal is strong with some power notes toward the end. The song has an Alicia Keys sound but fits for Whit — it’s current without making her seem like she is trying to compete with teenagers. The song received a standing ovation.

2. “Nothin’ But Love” (produced by Danja)

Whitney’s shout out to those who her love her and those who hate on her, she’s got “Nothin’ But Love” for all of them. Completely up-tempo and definitely an R&B club track that has the potential of sounding even hotter with a remix. The vocal stays around her lower register and, again, holds some classic Nippy notes at the end.

3. “Call You Tonight” (produced by Stargate)

Fun, mature and a song everyone can relate to. Heavily produced and while it can be tough to adjust to a pure vocalist like Whitney sing to a production heavy song, the mid-tempo track works for this album.  “Call You Tonight” sounds like one of the better tracks from Just Whitney. Some lyrics include, “Destiny, I believe in it” and “I wish I could stay but I got to go, I’ll call you tonight.”

4. “Salute” (written and produced by R. Kelly)

Whitney is saying goodbye to a lover who has done her wrong, but she is letting go with no anger and confidently sings, “I salute you.” Could she be channeling Bobby Brown? The song is strictly R&B and almost sounds similar to “Heartbreak Hotel” from the My Love Is Your Love album. More instruments than production with keys and a strong vocal from Whitney. One line, “You think you know everything, you think your sh*t don’t stink.”

5. “I Look To You” – R. Kelly

Say what you want about R. Kelly but whitney-houston-album-cover-photothe man can still make a good R&B song. “I Look To You” is the title track and my favorite song so far. Beautiful lyrics like, “As I lay me down, heaven hear me now.” Her voice is deeply powerful, channeling classic Whitney with a pop sense but an R&B vocal. This song proves that she has not lost her voice and it’s definitely a melody I cannot wait to hear live.  Whitney clearly feels every line and chord, charging through the ballad, transcending her own experience and reaching others who have been through adversity.  Whitney has been criticized for not being emotional enough in her music — this track knocks out that complaint.  From where I could see, Bobbi Kristina, Whitney’s daughter, was getting emotional during the song.

6. “Worth It” (R. Kelly)

“This song is for the lovers…” is one of the lines. Youthful and radio friendly, another R&B track.  Nothing much to add about this one, enjoyable to listen to and had folks in the audience bobbing their head — I think I even saw a few head nods from Martha Stewart!

7. “A Song For You” (produced by Stargate)

Popularized by Donny Hathaway, “A Song For You” is a new spin on the Leon Russell classic. The beginning starts slow and the crowd gasped when they realized what song she was singing.  Whitney sounded incredible, nearly haunting  and before you knew it the song turns into a club banger!  Mr. Davis explained the song was recorded just the night before.  Definitely one for those who loves Whitney’s club tracks.

Overall, the nine tracks that were played received a good response. The album definitely has the potential to be a hit.  For Whitney, there is no such thing as a “comeback” — icons “don’t call it a comeback,” they just jump back in the game whenever they are ready.  One thing I do know is no one should expect 1985 Whitney.  Artists evolve and it’s limiting when we trap performers in a particular box or era.  The best piece about the tracks is that Whit has some grit to her voice, her vocals are still strong but she doesn’t mind getting a bit nasty with it.  While the album isn’t finished, I believe folks will be pleasantly surprised.

Are you looking forward to the new Whitney album?

PS. Clive Davis is 77 years old and stood on that stage for nearly an hour, introducing Whitney, telling stories, making  jokes and setting up each song!  This is a man from the old school and knows how to work a project!  Gotta give respect to Professor Davis!

PPS.  One more thing — I NEED a duet for this album and I’m calling it — just like Madonna teamed with Justin Timberlake, I need a Beyonce and Whitney Houston duet.  The song should be a single, maybe in the style of “Halo.”  So, please — someone text, email, Twitter, or Facebook Clive Davis ASAP!

Bobbi vs. Whitney

Published by Runteldat on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11:50 am.

If you were hoping that Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston’s penchant for public displays of embarrassment had escaped their daughter, Bobbi Kristina, you obviously don’t know the power of genetics.

Egypt Says So says last week Bobbi Kristina and Whitney were spotted at a restaurant in Atlanta cursing each other out.

Whatever the argument between mother and 16-year-old was about sent Nippy reeling. They say she couldn’t stop filling up her glass with white wine as the meal went on. I’m surprised Whitney didn’t steal off on her.

I could pin this on teenage angst, but when your parents are Bobby and Whitney should you get a pass?
