oprah builds a school in southafrica, but here in chicago we have the worst “Public School System” in the Nation. anyway those african kids are going to receive their education and act like snobs, like all african people are, especially when in the presence of so called blacks/african americans. oprah needs to take care of home first (Chicago Public School System) where most of the students are BLACK ;-{

I applaud Miss Winfrey for that. It shows that she truly cares for and loves those girls. I just pray no one tries to take their phones from them. I applaud Oprah for her quick response to the abuse allegations, and for providing the girls with cellphones and her direct line. If you remember, she was abused herself as a child, and I am sure would have appreciated having someone to tell who would respond in her favor. I have counseled abused children and know the importance of being there for them. I have also spent time in South Africa, and know that sexual abuse and misappropriation of funds are rampant. And because of traditions that give males undue power over females, they (girls) were not given the right to an education, and I doubt little would have been done to protect the girls regarding the abuse. I also agree with those who state that it’s Oprah’s money and school and she could/should and continue to do what’s in her best interests concerning both; and as Americans, we have the resources and power to fix our own schools, and rather than blame others we should do what we can to make things better.

Wow you folks are really angry!!! Oprah has the right to do with her money what she wants. When she was initially critized for building schools in Africa she said that the children in this county, when asked what they wanted, it was monetary things, not an education. That’s why she built those schools. Education is free in this country and available to all those who want it. The reason the schools in the ghettos do poorly is because the parents do not participate in their childs education, that is the key!!! When my sista first started teaching in Far Rockaway Queens, a student broke a teachers nose (Intermediate School) this was back in 1970’s, instead of the mother being upset with her child, she was upset that she was forced to come to the school to discuss the incident. The teachers are not there to raise our kids, they are their to educate them.

I commend Oprah for giving the girls her private number. Now they can feel more safe and secure knowing she’s just a call away. My heart goes out to those young ladies at the school, it is always someone to go and mess up everything those young girls are their to get a good education and that is great and to have someone violate them like that is sickening, but to give them a cell phone i don’t think will solve anything someone could still threaten them where they will never call just beep up the security and have the security crew checked on all levels before they can supply protection against a sicko who did this in the first place. Hi I have read alot of the such of’s or if that, But the most of the reading is that I have wanted to help people but never had that can of money. It is surpriseing to hear tht if some body , which had to be of color of ‘ZBlack helping Black in captial typing which is done on purpose, but in are neighborhood we can’t get the help to help each other in a geographic area, that’s amount are self’s. It is is alot of great Person living in chicago beside Oprah, I met add that have money and your not downing them, and live or do business in the district/ or territory in or words had build-up the area, but that alone, let’s be clear the housing complex’s ( alone) It is naught to hear some othr black talk about it’s own, how can it be, when you never help never.
