Yes he was robbed. Ruby was good and all but I barely remember anything she said. Denzel was good in both movies and his role was better than most of the nominees that were selected. This is crazy. They just stuck Ruby in there so no one would give an uproar about everything. I love her and all but oh my goodness.

I think Denzel should have been nominated for an Oscar. He did his thing in both movies and it is a shame that the Academy didn’t recognize him for that but hold your head Denzel cause the people that saw the movies and loved them got your back and sometimes thats the most important thing that the people feel you, and in my opinion you accomplished that goal.

Her nomination probably has more to do with her longevity as a Hollywood actress–but so what. I’m sure Denzel is very happy to see Ms Dee’s nomination. As far as I’m concerned, she is a Hollywood treasure!

mr washington is one of many afro american actors, that has set footsteps in the earth instead of the sand. he is a person of intelligence and respect of the things that he does and receive. he also to appears to be a very intellegent man of honor. i hate that he will not receive an award or statue but to me he is the reward because he shows other races not just us that the strength is in our beliefs and talent that we show by the choices he has choosen in the past 30 years lets me know that he has already been given his oscars,and any other award just by letting us see how talented he is.

And clearly we saw Denzel play a “bad guy” already in Training Day and he recieved an Oscar. I think the Great Debaters should have given him a nod at least. Maybe not AG because the movie itself was not a “Great” movie. It was interesting and had a lot of twist and turns but I think the Great Debaters was a much better plot. We haven’t seen that type of movie before but we have seen the American Gangster type films. It was good though and that would be one that I would look at over and over again.

Denzel is a great Actor, I havent seen the Great Debaters,but American Gangster was a great film in all, But I dont see his role in American Gangster as being Oscar worthy like Training Day or when he was robbed in Malcolm X or the other bazillion movies he didnt get nomintaed for. I find it quite funny that in within the same breath some of these comments state that Denzel was robbed because of his race, but then say good luck Ruby. It’s so easy to use the blanket excuse of, it’s because of their race. At what point can you not just say, his/her performance was good, but not as good as the others up for nomination. Has anyone seen all of these other movies that have been nominated? I would venture to say no. I’m fairly decent at trying to get a full educated opinion on the movies by seeing most that are talked about as awards times approach, but I still see maybe only 60-75%. Also at what point can we say the Academy is racist when in prior years 2 of the 4 major acting awards went to blacks in the same year, and various nominations in the acting catagories in the same year when to a mryiad of actors, whether black, white, hispanic or Asian. There comes a point where everything can not go by the numbers. Do we want to break everything down by percentage points of the population. If so, then we should never allow blacks to have more than 2 acting nominations per year since that would hold-true to their population percentage in the US. There is no huge uproar in mainstream media that the percentage of black basketball players in the NBA far exceeds their population percentage in the US overall. So lets get over this notion that everytime nominations come up, if there is not a certain number of nominations for a specific race that it instantaniously has to be due to race, specifically when dealing with an industry of acting and lovie making that is completely subjective to begin with.

To NOWAY…I’m actually not a fool for thinking There WIll Be Blood is better than American Gangster or The Great Debaters. I did said the Great Debaters was an amazing film, don’t get me wrong. But movie like There Will Be Blood and Michael Clayton, stuff like that are my favorite kind of movies. I don’t like inspiration movies as much unless its talking about sports about the whole black & white thing like Remember the Titans, Pride, and Glory Road. But I understand if you feel that way, but I’m definitely no fool. That’s just my taste in movies. Maybe it’s just me being bias because Denzel is not one of my favorite actors. I will admit that. However, will I do see his films that are like inspired or based on a true story, he really blows me away at how great he is. But he’s not my favorite. I like Al Pacino for the dramas and action movies he does. And I like Johnny Depp because he’s a character actor and I like it when actors seem so animated. So forgive me for being so bias.

Another thing, I talked to a dear friend of mines who believes the only reason why the Oscars are applied as a white ceremony is because when it comes to Hollywood writers, they don’t write movies for black actors. That’s why Denzel is in a league of his own. I would like to see more black actors (and actresses) to follow Denzel’s lead, but they keep coming out with comedys and dumb hip hop dancing moving (I’m sorry but hip hop dancing movies were hot for a while, but enough already). I want to see more Denzel’s, Halle Berry’s, Will Smith’s, and ecetera to try out for those dynamic roles, other wise they want get the acknowledgement they need. Come out with movies that mean something.

She is an amazing pioneer and reference point for many African-American(Black) actors and actresses because she paid her dues before many of us were ever born. Mrs. Ruby Dee displays a sense of grace and honor that very few of us will ever have or will feel because she has been a faithful fighter and courageous leader when being Black or Negro was viewed as negative by society’s racism system. Denzel Washington is one of the best actors of all times and definately deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of drug pin Frank Lucus in American Gangster, one of the most powerful and provoctive movies that I’ve seen in a while. Gangsters, drug lords, crooked cops, etc..all kinds of folk preying on an unprotected, quasi-unhealthy community, but what I found most intriging is that this movie debunks the myth that blacks haven’t been at all responsible for “bringing” drugs into their own communities. The unfortunate fact is American gangster proved otherwise.
