Alfre Woodard Joins Cast of New Medical Drama

Today, I come in peace. No slick talk. No shade. Just love. Congratulations Alfre Woodard, for landing a role in the new medical drama Three Rivers! The Emmy winning actress will play Sophia Jordan, head of surgery at Three Rivers Hospital in Pittsburgh. The role was recast after being played by Julia Ormond in the pilot, because producers felt that Woodard was a better, more experienced choice. (Go Girl!)

Three Rivers chronicles the lives of three different worlds: The lives of the doctors who work in transplant surgery, the family of the transplant giver, and the transplant receiver. The series is part of CBS’s new fall line up.

I’m glad Woodard got more work (outside of a Tyler Perry flick) because she’s an underrated actress. It’s interesting, though, how a lot of working African-American actresses on TV seem to be in medical professions. I don’t think there’s anything intentional behind it (no major Hollywood conspiracy), it’s just an observation. What’s your take?

Alot of African American actresses also land roles in crime series also and for that matter what else is on tv other than crime and medical shows.
I am thrilled she will be involved in this show as she is a terrific actress.
