Tocarra Signs On For Own Reality Show

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 12:00 am.

tocarra7

It looks like the fabulous Tocarra (you have to preface her name without fabuous) is extending her run in reality by signing on for a new show with the Oxygen network.

She’s done Top Model, VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club and Celebrity Paranormal Project, and done several shows for BET but now the plus-size model turned uh, actress, TV personality, and NBA girlfriend will be the focus of her own entity.

The show is said to chronicle her daily work so I guess we’ll get to see just how fabulous Tocarra really is. Yes, I had to use the word again. With her I just feel you like you have to.

Anyhow, I find Tocarra entertaining (especially on Celebrity Fit Club) so I don’t doubt she can’t carry her own show.

I’ll tune in. Will you be joining me?

Wendy Renewed Until 2012

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 12:38 am.

wendy

Get ready to say, “How you doin’?” for at least two more years.

Debmar-Mercury has renewed The Wendy Williams Show through the 2011-12 season.

In a statement, Frank Cicha, senior VP of programming at FOX wrote:

“There was no question that we wanted to renew The Wendy Williams Show given what we’ve seen thus far in both content and ratings. We anticipate even further growth as the show continues to emerge as a key building block, and Wendy as a key personality, of our daytime landscape.”

Although ratings have been modest, Debar-Mercury says the show has improved 23 percent in households.  The show is doing better with young female audiences, increasing 43 percent among women 18-34, 38 percent among women 18-49 and 37 percent in women 25-54 compared to the show’s first eight weeks on the air.

Based on what you’ve seen of Wendy Williams thus far, how do you feel about the show?

I know a lot of people complain about the guest, but I think Wendy’s personality carries the show. She’s a lot tamer than she was on radio, but she’s still open, quirky, and hilarious. I can see the show becoming even better with time.

Insert your “oows” here.

Whitney To Dance with the Stars

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 12:20 am.

whouston_dancing

Although she’s not necessarily the best dancer, Whitney Houston has plenty of songs you can jig to (jig is my word, by the way).

There’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” for the people old enough to consume liquor in the 80s. We have “My Name Is Not Susan” for the old souls – well, I dance to it. I’ve seen plenty an aunty jig, get it big to “I’m Every Woman” (respect to Chaka Khan). And now chirren young and old go off to “Million Dollar Bill.”

That’s probably why ABC has tapped Ms. Nippy if ya nasty to perform on the season finale of Dancing with the Stars.

I’m going to go with a hunch that she’s going to perform “Million Dollar Bill” that night. Or she might go with an oldie, but that could definitely go either way with respect to one of the best vocalists of all-time.

Hopefully her trademark two-step will also represent on the show.

Tyra’s Bunions Meet Halle Berry

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 12:00 am.

Since the new season of The Tyra Banks Show has kicked off Tyra Banks has shown her real hair and a live colonoscopy. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that she’s now showing her jacked up feet. I guess her showing her flaws makes her more endearing?

Freakish feet having people, feel free to expound on that question for me.

Anyhow, Tyra had Halle Berry (pronounced Hallleeeeeee Berrrrrrryyyy) on her show recently and as you can see, Tyra had no problems showing off her imperfections to a woman often hailed as perfect.

After brief chats about feet, the two talked short hair, long weaves, and Halle’s new perfume – namely wear to spray it. One of the places to spray is apparently between Tyra’s legs.

Yeah, I have nothing else to add after that.

Robin Givens Reacts To Oprah’s Tyson Interview

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 12:00 am.

There are three people in life I fear: God, my mama, and Oprah.

And if I’m being honest, I’d rather have to work to regain the love of the other two than Oprah. Kidding, ya’ll…but really, I would watch my mouth around the Queen of TV.

When Mike Tyson sat down with Oprah a few weeks ago some people thanked Oprah for humanizing him in a way not previously seen outside of his most recent documentary.

Some people, like his ex-wife, Robin Givens, were mad at Oprah because it humanized him a little too much.

At one point during his interview Mike was asked about his reactions to his now infamous interview with Robin about his physical abuse to her. He quipped that at the time he wanted to “sock her.” The audience seemed to laugh, though as Oprah noted in the video it was the kind of laughter that pointed more towards them feeling uncomfortable versus them getting a chuckle out of abuse.

But Robin spoke out and in turn Oprah invited her to speak her piece. Fortunately, Oprah apologized to Robin and further clarified her reaction during Tyson’s interview. Robin did have a point, which Oprah acknowledged proving that she is indeed everything – including someone who will apologize.

P.S. I wouldn’t try that again if I were you, though, Robin. Love you, O!

Kimora Lee, Andre Leon Talley Joining Top Model

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 12:00 am.

kimora-tyra

While I was initially embarrassed to admit it, I loved watching America’s Next Top Model.

But in its early years the more you watched the show the more you fell in love with it, its cast members, and yes, Tyra Banks herself. After a while, though, the show, like most good things on TV, started to get a little stale…and sometimes annoying.

Evidently, I’m not the only one who’s no longer a faithful watcher given the show has reportedly experienced its lowest ratings since its exception.

But not one to give up on her most popular franchise just yet, Tyra is bringing new blood to give a much needed jolt to the series.

The New York Daily News reports that Tyra is bringing back Kimora Lee Simmons as a judge.

It was rumored that the original Top Model judge was fired after not getting along with the show creator. If you recall, both Janice Dickson and Paulina Porizkova spoke ill of Tyra once they left the show.

Now Tyra’s ready to prove she plays nice with others.

Via Gatecrasher:

“So Tyra called Kimora to prove the notion [that she doesn't work well with others] wrong,” the source adds. A CWspokesman would say only: “Not true.”

Kimora, who will fill the seat occupied by celebrity guest judges like Kim Kardashian, Chanel Iman and Jessica White, won’t be the only Type A personality on the bench: Word is that fan favorite J. Alexander is getting bounced back to his original role as runway coach and will be replaced by Vogue editor at large Andre Leon Talley.

Kimora will be great for laughs, but the addition of Andre Leon Talley adds a bit of credibility to a show that seems to have produced more actors and reality TV stars than bona fide top models.

That definitely makes me more inclined to check out the upcoming seasons. What about you?

Chilli Talks About Her New Reality Project

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 12:27 am.

Excuse the political sermons that follow Chilli’s comments. I only wanted you all to hear what she has to say about her upcoming reality show.

Honestly, these reality dating shows seem exhausting to me, but everyone keeps watching so one can’t knock the hustle.  I will say, though, I’m encouraged to hear Chilli speak about her show as if she’s going to try to put a spin on a trite plot. Then again, she stressed how much the show is “for the ladies” so maybe she’s more interested in my sister watching the show than I am.

In any event, given Chilli’s solo dreams with Akon came and went, if she’s too maintain any viability in the press this show is going to need some oomph to it. Judging from her assistant, Tionne Small’s comments about Ciara cutting up a while back, I’m guessing we can count on her for it.

Did anyone else pick up on Chilli’s rumored boyfriend, Floyd Mayweather, speaking to the cameras in a spot highlighting Chilli’s dating reality show. C’mon nah, ya’ll, at least stick with the gimmick for the show.

Boys Club: ATL Coming Soon

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 12:39 am.

sheree-and-lawrence1

Previously, I wrote about reports that producers were looking to make a houseboy edition of the housewives franchise.

Now there’s word that Bravo is entertaining the idea of an all-male version of the Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Said to be entitled Boys Club: ATL, I imagine this show sassy men like Dwight Eubanks, Sherri Whitfield’s stylist and friend, Lawrence, and Kim Zolciak’s buddy, Ms. Stiletto Pumps In The Club himself, Derek J.

Say what you want about the “girls,” but they’re quite uhh…amusing? I can only imagine the type of drama this show could potentially bring.

But if you watched that reunion special and heard Dwight talk about a penile implant, it could be a bit too much all at once.

What say you? Is it time for an all male version of the housewives franchise, and if so, is it only right they kick it off in the ATL?

Chris Brown Sets Dates For GMA, Wendy Williams

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 12:00 am.

chris69

For those of you who ask the question, “Why won’t you media people leave Chris Brown alone and let him focus on his music?” could you please tell Chris Brown stop giving interviews about you know what and let us focus on his music?

VIBE.com reports that Chris Brown is scheduled to give Good Morning America an interview next month.

To be fair, this was scheduled a month prior, but given Rihanna just gave an interview to 20/20 which was teased on GMA – one can’t help but think it’s ill-timing given the likelihood that Rihanna’s interviewer, Diane Sawyer, hosts GMA and probably won’t miss the opportunity to probe about his punching past.

Hopefully, Chris Brown talks more about pop and lock then bob and weave when he appears on the ABC morning talk show.

And for you Wendy Williams and Breezy fans, on Friday you can look forward to the premiere of the singer’s second single, “Crawl.”

Chris will premiere the new video on The Wendy Williams Show.

Gender Transformation Themed Show Coming To HBO

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 12:00 am.

hbo_logo4

HBO is looking to push their programming even more left-field with the announcement of a new half-hour drama that tackles gender transformation.

Variety reports that the network has tapped In Treatment show runners Anya Epstein and Dan Futterman to develop a show centered on the story of a woman transforming into a man.

The show, entitled T, is said to be inspired by an episode of the public radio show “This American Life.”

HBO has tackled gender transformation before with the 2003 telepic Normal. And in film Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman received earned an Academy Award nomination for her role as a pre-operative male-to-female transsexual in the film Transamerica.

While the show will no doubt inspire growing interest as it advances in development and ultimate premiere, is this the type of show that audiences will gravitate towards week after week?
