UK Television Will Have A Live Séance With MJ

Published by marceneaux on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 12:00 am.

michael-jackson

Even in death Michael Jackson can’t be left alone.

A British television network is looking to wake him up tomorrow night for a network special.

Sky 1 is planning to broadcast a program dubbed “Michael Jackson: The Live Séance.”

British psychic Derek Acorah will attempt to contact Jackson’s spirit in an effort to get fans “to connect with their hero one last time.”

Sky 1’s Stuart Murphy told Yahoo UK: “There is an insatiable appetite to find out more about Michael Jackson. He was an extraordinary figure and the curiosity surrounding his life — and his death — stretches well beyond fans of his music.”

Hopefully if Michael does in fact answer the call, he yells a lot of expletives at Murphy for waking him up.

Sheree Whitfield’s Ex-Husband Takes More Shots At Her

Published by marceneaux on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 12:00 am.

bob-whitfield1

Retired NFL player and Real Housewife of Atlanta cast member Sheree Whitfield’s ex-husband Bob Whitfiled was a guest on the Nigel and Marco Show recently and threw lots of shade at his ex-wife’s way.

He revealed that he pays his wife $113, 422 a year after their divorce.

Perhaps that’s made him a little bitter because he ranted:

“Quit trying to trash me and then use my damn last name. I’m feeling like I’m the mad scientist and I created Frankenstein. She didn’t have that nose; I put that nose on her! She didn’t have them breasts, I put them breasts on her. I put some electricity on that ass and now she’s sparked up and tearing up the got damn laboratory. What the f*ck. Sit down somewhere and calm it down. You forget who made you girl!”

On the success of her show he noted:

You get 3 million views a week. We got that and we weren’t even winning games. Atlanta is a small country ass town. It ain’t that much Hollywood in Atlanta that you can do.”

He then mentioned that he’s tempted to leak a sex tape and nude pics of Sheree adding, You see what it did for Kim Kardashian

If you recall these two have children together.

In any event, tonight we’ll get our last glimpse of Sheree and the rest of the housewives on TV for a while as part two of the reunion special airs tonight.

Here’s a preview:

TLC Planning New Reality Series

Published by marceneaux on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 12:00 am.

tlc

It seems like VH1 can’t get enough of the members of TLC. The network aired a documentary on the life of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes years ago and more recently signed Chilli for a dating reality show. Now it seems the reality-friendly channel will be chronicling the return of TLC in a new series.

After Chilli and T-Boz recently performed at Justin Timberlake’s charity gala in Las Vegas, it’s been announced that the two remaining members of TLC want to give the world a glimpse into a full-fledged TLC reunion.

The as-yet-untitled show will be executive produced by Chilli’s’ longtime manager Bill Diggins and is set to premiere next March.

With T-Boz only recently acknowledging that she underwent major surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor that left her with complications in her speech, sight, and balance this show will no doubt offer a lot more than the group’s previous stab at reality TV, R U The Girl.

The Wire Meets The Classroom

Published by marceneaux on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 12:00 am.

thewire

The Wire should have been far more popular than it was.

Granted it’s a cult favorite and critics love it, but the show never received the wide audience it deserved to. The show was robbed many times over for not rewarding the great writers and actors, but pop culture was an even greater causality as the failure of this show to catch on with a larger fan base prevented greater dialogue about the show’s gritty subject matter.

You can turn on the news to hear stories of drug-inspired violence and read the newspaper to read over a bunch of regurgitated statistics about city crime, but The Wire offered a human face to those stories.

If the show were more popular perhaps the conversations likely to be held in the Harvard class inspired by the show will now tackle.

Harvard University has announced plans to offer a course on the famed HBO series.

The class is intended to use the show to fuel a better understanding of how to combat real urban social issues like those featured in the Baltimore setting of the show.

Sociology Professor William J. Wilson told the Harvard Crimson, “‘The Wire has done more to enhance our understanding of the systemic urban inequality that constrains the lives of the poor than any published study.”

I minored in Sociology and I completely agree. If I didn’t hate student loans more than anything else on Earth I’d want to be in the class myself.

Beyonce Is All Yours on Thanksgiving

Published by marceneaux on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 12:00 am.

On Thanksgiving Night, Beyonce will spare me and millions of others from being forced to watch their relatives reenact the “Singles Ladies” video for the second year in a row.

Taking it back to the days when big name artists would have huge concert specials on or around the holidays on broadcast TV, Beyonce will have her very own concert special

The special will highlight the Vegas concert that Beyonce taped for her DVD release, I Am…Yours, which will be released that same week.

I can’t wait to see this. It will be the perfect way to both burn off turkey and ignore relatives who I duck 363 days a year. Or you know this good be a nice way to sit back and be entertained with all of your loved ones. Whatever’s clever for you.

Precious Star For TV Pilot?

Published by marceneaux on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 12:00 am.

gabby1

Though she’s currently promoting her breakthrough role in the highly buzzed film, Precious, set to premiere next week, don’t think Gabourey Sidibe isn’t working on what to do next.

Variety reports that the actress is in talks to appear in the Showtime pilot The C Word.

According to the trade magazine the show is half-hour dark comedy based on a terminal cancer patient.

Sidibe would have a guest spot in the pilot as a teen whom the main character tries to help lose both weight and shake her bad attitude.

Pilot is set to be directed by Bill Condon, who helmed the film Dreamgirls.

Elite and Dariel Want Their Show, Too

Published by marceneaux on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 12:00 am.

darielandElite

With reality shows being given out more than stimulus checks it should be a surprise to no one that everyone and their sister and stylist feel that they deserve their time on the tube.

We had Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, which beget the just wrapped reality series, Frankie & Neffe. Could that show beget another spin-off?

It will if Neffe’s hairstylist Dariel and sister, Elite, have anything to say about it.

Freddy O has the word:

It seems as if 2009 and 2010 is the year of the reality television shows. Keyshia Cole’s sister Elite, and Neffe’s hair stylist Dariel are in the process of shooting their own reality show. Yes you heard me correctly. According to Dariel the show is to portray their grind and hustle to make it in this cut throat industry. It will also show that Keyshia does NOT take care of them. Dariel also says that the show will be speaking on issues of how money was stolen from his former management. But the main focus of the show is to show the world his struggle as a hair stylist that is trying to build his brand and [clientele]. It will also show how Elite is in the studio making her own album, and her search for her dad. According to Dariel this is going to be REAL and RAW, and nothing will be held back. Seems like it will be interesting, we shall see.

I gather entertainment will be provided by Lenox Mall, the Waffle House, Sutter’s Home, and shame.

It seems like anyone with a flip cam who has been featured on a blog at least once (even if it’s in the comments section) thinks they deserve a reality series. But given Dariel and Elite’s snippet of fame via their roles on past reality series, maybe some people are interested to see even more programs that focus on the elite of Atlanta (no pun intended, Elite).

Could these two have success with their own show or are you only interested in viewing people with Man Down, Code 10 situations?

Cheadle, McGruder Team For New Series

Published by marceneaux on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 12:00 am.

DonCheadle

Following the success of NBC’s 30 Rock, The Office, and new comedy, Community, NBC is looking to take on even more from half-hour comedies – one of which is a project from actor Don Cheadle and Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder.

Via Variety:

As for the Cheadle/McGruder comedy, project revolves around mismatched brothers who reunite to open a private security company.

Universal is producing, along with Cheadle’s Crescendo Prods. label (which includes partner Kay Lieberman). McGruder, who’s writing, is EP with Cheadle and Lieberman. Project has a script order at the Peacock.

The only funny security guard I can think of is Otis from Martin, but given Cheadle and McGruder’s names being attracted to the projects, I’m inclined to give the show the benefit of the doubt.

But hopefully, should the show actually be piloted and picked up by the network I hope it manages to separate itself from the other NBC sitcoms – most of whom (sans 30 Rock) seem modeled after the format of The Office.

As previously reported, Cheadle is also developing a basketball drama for FX.

Tonight, Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum recording artist Monica makes her television debut with BET’s new reality series, Monica: Still Standing.

The show will chronicle Monica as she records her fifth album, Still Standing, in the midst of health challenges, personal trials and tribulations, and her hardest role of all – being a full-time mother of two young sons.

In a press release, Monica spoke on her challenges sharing so much of her life in front of the camera.

“It was very scary stepping into the type of situation that would expose me
and my life,” Monica said.

She overcame those fears once she realized how invaluable lessons from the series could provide to her fans and those seeking stardom.

She added: “But I think that there are so many kids now that are aspiring to do exactly what I’ve done and I felt like that was worth me putting myself on the line so they would really understand what it’s like to try and juggle both a music career and personal life.”

Monica: Still Standing premieres tonight at 10:00 P.M. EST/PST and 9:00 p.m. central.

Michelle Obama On The Jay Leno Show

Published by marceneaux on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 12:00 am.

michelle-leno

First Lady Michelle Obama appeared on The Jay Leno Show on Friday.

In a brief skit, Leno pushed Michelle to share her husband’s flaws and let us in on what’s his most annoying habit. Initially, Mrs. Obama opted for sarcasm as she quipped, “He’s perfect.”

But finally, she let it out: It works her nerves when he beats her in tennis.

“He beats me quite often,” Michelle told Jay Leno.

Yeah, that’s not all that exciting but she loves her husband, and she is a political wife so she’s no fool. She remembers how much ya’ll tripped out when she pointed out he snores and leaves his dirty socks around.

Check out the clip of Michelle doing “10 @ Ten:”
