And the reality shows keep a coming. Next up, Janet Jackson is developing a music competition for MTV in which she’ll groom aspiring singers and dancers, reports Variety.
“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” said exec producer Dave Broome. “And we’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”
The prize for all their sweat and tears has yet to be determined. Not that a shot at being mentored by one the of greatest pop performers of all time isn’t enough.

Looks like Shazza is getting some help after all.
Gary Dourdan is reportedly joining the troubled cast of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” following his recent arrest for drug possession. The former “CSI” star was hemmed up in California in April after police found drugs in his car. He made a deal requiring him to pay a $4,500 fine and to complete a 16-class drug program. Sources say the show’s producers approached him shortly after.
Dourdan’s involvement on the show hasn’t been confirmed. But it’s rumored he will join Rod Stewart’s son Sean, singer Tawny Kitaen, “Grease” star Jeff Conaway and rocker Steve Adler in rehab.

It’s one of the oldest strategies in the Black Hollywood play book. Let’s take a successful white creation and “Blackerize” it. Spice Girl Mel B’s done it with a new Nickelodeon sitcom, described as the “black version” of ridiculously popular tween TV series “Hannah Montana.” Brown is set to star in the new series, scheduled to go into production later this year.
If she can mirror HALF the success of Miley Cyrus, we’ll be impressed.

Because you couldn’t get enough of Bobby Brown on ”Gone Country,” the former R&B hitmaker is back with more Southern-style reality shenanigans. Look for his CMT return in “Outsider’s Inn,” which follows the stars’ attempts to run a Southern guest house. First episode airs on Aug. 15. If Bobby’s nothing else, he’s hospitable. Clearly, bored with his career and hospitable.

Samuel L. Jackson can do more than scream obscenities and boss people around, you know. The actor just signed a first-look deal with CBS Paramount Network TV to develop and executive produce projects for TV. According to Variety, it’s a two-year deal. He’s looking for writers and a veteran TV exec to head up development. Since he’s running things, CBS even gave him an office at the studio.
Well, maybe all that screaming will come in handy after all.

Just when you thought networks had squeezed the life out of modeling competitions, another one arrives. TV Land, of all stations, brings us “She’s Got the Look,” a competition for women approaching menopause. Ok, well 35 and up. From what I saw on the commercial, a few of them don’t even look 30! Beautiful Beverly Johnson is one of the judges, while Kim Alexis hosts. Now these ladies are expected to be mature, right? I wonder how the cattiness will compare to “Top Model.” The first show airs tonight, 10 p.m. (ET). Think you’ll watch?

They may have killed off Harold Perrineau’s character on “Lost,” but the actor is still alive and well on the ABC network. Perrineau’s set to play detective in a new comedy-drama pilot “The Unusuals.” This brother stays busy.

Nicole Ari Parker returns to the tube in the Damon Wayans pilot “Never Better.” She’ll play the wife of Wayans’ character, Keith, a recovering alcoholic trying to be a good husband and father.
Let’s hope it’s better than that other show she had with hubby Boris. Can’t remember the name of it, which says plenty.

Yep, another reality show starring a hip-hop star. This time it’s 50, who’ll be featured on an “Apprentice”-type show for MTV, helping to search for the next, well, him. On the untitled show, 16 contestants live together and compete in challenges that relate to street savvy and business smarts. The show will end each week with 50 Cent narrowing his search to crown the NEXT American business mogul.
50 knows about money, being a gazillionaire and all. But he’s got no personality. Prediction: Eh.

Who’s up for watching T.I perform community service? Oooh! Oooh! You got that, because guess what? The legally-challenged rapper is turning his most recent 1-year prison sentence into a reality show for MTV. Cameras already filmed him during his highly-publicized house arrest. Viewers will also watch him fulfilling 1,000 hours of community service. Serious filming will start this summer through the spring of 2009 when he’s slated for the pokey. MTV will air the show shortly after.
“Hopefully the mistakes I’ve made will be a lesson to today’s youth and they won’t go down that same path,” T.I. said. The show will also document the release this fall of the rapper’s new album, “Paper Trail,” (of course!) much of which was inspired by his travails over the past year, and the birth of his child.
