VH1 is giving the wives, baby mamas, and whatchamacallits of NBA players their very own reality series.

The much speculated series has finally been confirmed by VH1. The reality show will be called Basketball Wives and VH1 has given the show an eight-episode order.

Via the press release:

This series is about the insider life of the wives, girlfriends and a few ex-wives of some of the biggest ballers in the game. These ladies live the life. They drive the best cars, live in the biggest mansions, wear designer clothes and jewelry and only travel first class. But living the high life is not all glamour. In order to protect it, they have to deal with the jealousies and dramas of living in — and staying in — the inner circle. They must also keep the groupies at bay while their husbands and boyfriends are traveling on the road for over six months of the year playing ball all-the-while wondering if their spouses are being faithful to them.

The cast is filled with the wives and ex-wives of superstars including Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams), Evelyn Lozada (ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker), Mesha O’Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal), Royce Reed, Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend) and Shaunie O’Neal (wife of Shaquille O’Neal) who will also serve as Executive Producer on the series.

I guess given Shaunie’s marital status with Shaq that A&E thing wasn’t going to happen. But give it up for the soon-to-be Mrs. Ex-Shaq for getting that executive producer credit. Someone knows how to stack checks.

Production on Basketball Wives will begin later this month with a premiere date set for March 15, 2010.

I don’t know what will be more entertaining: The show itself or the venom  that the groupies yearning to be in their spots will be spew on message boards, blogs, and Twitter profiles.

I would not do a show on VH1, that station along with MTV is stereotyping and very racially bias. If, you as a black women don’t have other talents, then shame on you. As being a women of color I am done with allowing the media to depict our culture of women as something negative. I rather see another Cosby show, more positive and influential, then she another reality ‘bias black show’,! I will not watch it nor support it, because between those two networks they are bias and prejudices. More so in a pyschological aspect.

I really wish my future husband(shaq) would hurry up and divorce homegirl,I knew that’s all she was shopping for a way to have somthing without having nothing at first. Who was she before she was with Shaq-daddy?

if they focus on where they were before they got 2 b where they are. i think the show would be a success with the struggles before their men had any money.the glitz and glamour of fame does not reduce the heartache and pain.i would like to see a show with average women trying to hold on to their men through hurt, poverty and pain now that’s real cause i’m broke don’t mean i don’t feel!!!
