I thought leaf had something special at first but the more I heard her I saw that she is not a solid vocal and also she has a weird stage presence… I think my boy cut the wrong one. Kia is cute can sing and she can move good enough to pop off something on the charts! Now did they find that special thing like a Whitney, early day Mariah, or even a Mary J! somebody with that straight star quality and stayaing power….. sadly no.

in honour of michael jackson,i have really been into music this weekend.checking out everything,and everybody including leaf.i found her myspace,and really her music is amazing.i dont know that the show really showcases her,or any of the girls that much.but if you check her out,you will see that she has songs that are worthy of grammy’s,and she’s a star.her voice is kind of like billie holiday or ray charles,in that i find her to be more of a stylist than your mariah carey,whitney houston type.her singing is just as beautiful. blackpeople shouldnt always pigeon hole our people and demand that they sound like aretha franklin or some version thereof,there is a wide variety of singing styles,and gifts…and for this reason i think it is amazing that leaf is being considered,and her talent has been recognized by drumma boy. i checked out some of her pictures,and she is really quite pretty too.i think kia is very talented,and i wish her the best.but honestly i don’t know that i would be moved to by her cds or whatever,but i would leaf. i dont think leaf will win because she’s beautiful and great but she should win because its her time. i have a friend in ohio whos been watching bet and loves leaf and wants to know if she wins,if her record comes out. i told her to go to myspace and check her music out there. dont know much about music,but may michael jackson rest in peace.p.s. even if leaf doesnt win,i know she will be a star.she is really amazing.

Man ii thank Kia should win. She pretty && ii personally think she will bring it to the table. Leaf is a more India Arie wanna be no offense. India is hot but Leaf is not. She’ s a herbal rock star. She is more commercial than what the world really wants. I can see Kia on stage and performing and becoming a star whereas Leaf on t.v commercials for herbal essence for hair and face make up. She’s just not ready for the entertainment buisness. That’s all ii have to say about that.

I do agree with you in that leaf is a versatile artist and is a “herbal rock star”. I too can see her branch out and do more than just music. So you really contradicted yourself in saying that she’s very commercial and marketable but yet she’s not ready for the entertainment industry. to me it seems that some of US (black folks in particular because this BET) in the world just may not be ready for leaf. READY OR NOT HERE SHE COMES!!!

I love and produce all types of music for both black and white. My eyes and ears tell me that Leaf is wack! She can be a studio artist but live she would crash and burn!!!!! she uses too much vibrato and she misses notes!! Thats not good… you said it best when you said you dont know much about music… I bet there is friends family and insiders posting these praises! Leaf is hands down the best but let’s face it most entertainers can’t sing or dance they are just cute there are not many that have talent and beauty so I expect Kia to win but for all the worng reasons. And I am a India Arie fan and Leaf is nothing like India Arie please listen to India before you compare her because Leaf has a rock style to her and India is no where near rock music.

There’s no question in my mind LEAF should walk away with this contest. She’s the most versatile. See the problem is the fact that everybody is a carbon copy in the industry now. It’s the same reason Janelle Monae isn’t getting pushed the way she should. I’ve been with a major, Sony BMG, for two years and I’ve seen carbon copies get signed, last one or two years, and get replaced. Leaf is a phenomenal instrumentalist and an amazing songwriter. Having seen her perform, her vocals were very catchy and she’s just an overall likeable and marketable person. I like artists that make you want to listen and she did that for me. NONE of the other girls on that show proved they were self-contained. Leaf can show up to any forum, lounge, cafe, indoor/outdoor venue with just her and her instrument. That’s a dream come true to a label. All they have to say is GO PERFORM and watch her build her following. Somebody would be a complete idiot, and afraid to take a calculated chance, if they didn’t invest in this girl. DID I MENTION OVERSEAS? OMG, let me stop before I try and sign her. Jazzy could make a killing. That was the smartest choice I’ve ever seen Drumma Boy make. It shows he comes from a musical stock.

I think that though the Kia is a talent, she would be just another face in the long, long, long line of artists out there doing the same. old. thang. Let’s all be real here : Leaf is a treasure. she is a talented vocalist and instrumentalist.. Her music is diverse and poignant. If Leaf wins, she wouldn’t just be winning the contest for her—she would be winning for all of the talented arists out there who continue to get doors slammed in their faces because they are individuals looking to bring some diversity and DEPTH to this music game. to all of the folks out there who claim that LEaf isnt ready fo the business—or think that she is just a “studio musician” …come watch her perform. I have seen her perform live several times, and each time is a beautiful experience. She sounds great live—–in all honesty, I prefer her live. she is by NO means an “India Irie” wanna be. for one thing, not every sista who carries a guitar is trying to be India Irie–thats just ingorant and insulting. Her voice and style are completely different–they are her OWN brand. Leaf is what the industy needs right now…..we have ENOUGH carbon copies. Folks need to see someone who can last, not just pop out an album that sounds like everything else on the radio becasue some record exec is scared to take a chance. Leaf would be an amazing crossover artist and someone who would unify people. In all honesty, she has more world appeal than than anyone else on the show. She is an awesome musician, and an inspiring human being. she could remind the ndustry that folks used to be into music for the love of the art.
