Jada Pinkett-Smith has come a long way since her days as Lena James on A Different World. I mentioned in April, that she would be making a TV come back this summer in Hawthorne. Now that the show premiers on Tuesday (at 9pm on TNT), it’s more of a reality and a must see show on my summer TV list.

Christina Hawthorne is a Virginia nurse with a big heart, who challenges hospital administrators, heartless doctors, apathetic colleagues and a system that sometimes forgets it’s there to serve the sick. Hawthorne is also a single mother struggling to keep her teenage daughter in check. I wasn’t too sure that I’d watch the show because I like my TV more comedic but the preview, and the fact that Jada Pinkett-Smith is executive producer, has piqued my interest. Plus, I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen a Black woman in a dramatic lead role on TV. The show looks pretty good. Check out a series preview:

This is an awesome sitcom for a day- in -the- life of a nurse. It is a great depiction of what they have to deal with on a regular basis. It shows their strengths and weaknesses. It is nice to get another point of view. I am looking forward to this being a long running sitcom. Keep it real and it most definitely will. Thanks Jada. Well done.
