Leaf’s Dream Begins on Dreamland Finale

Last night Leaf and Kia battled it out in the Welcome to Dreamland finale to find out who would be crowned the winner.

When Kia hit the stage, she finally showed the level of confidence she was criticized for lacking in previous episodes. As far as dancing goes she looked more Rihanna than Beyonce. That’s OK, though, because at least she sounded strong vocally on stage. Joining her act was Mario, who came out of nowhere and hit the stage to sing-a-long with the Team Phenzel representative.

Where as Kia offered more of what you’ll find on the radio, Leaf presented something more of the coffee shop variety. I might be alone in this, but for a second I couldn’t get past her look long enough to pay attention to the overall performance. With respect to her stylist, she looked like Andre 3000’s confused little sister.

I didn’t get it, but the crowd seemed to enjoy what Black Cyndi Lauper had to offer on stage.

One of the judges wasn’t nearly as moved as the crowd was, however. Kandi of Xscape and “No Scrubs” fame pointed out that vocally Leaf was a bit all over the place. I thought the same thing, but apparently shaky vocals weren’t enough to stop Leaf from taking the title for Team GSU and crowned the Queen of Dreamland.

That means Kia is back to the drawing board while Leaf starts recording her debut album.

Will you be on the look out for it when it drops?

There’s alot to think about hear. This is the year of change, and it seems as though Welcome to Dreamland got the message. So maybe that’s what Leaf winning is all about.I think the guy that wrote the recap is lacking in taste and style because if anything Kia’s outfit was unnecessary, and didn’t match with the choir thing, what was that about? But the outfits are way down on the totem pole,so I don’t care about that so much.I get that a man would prefer Kias outfit, and maybe a woman too depending on your conditioning. In any case,I think its interesting and more provocative really that Leaf won. It’s alot to talk about and think about here. I look forward to her album in a way I dont think I would forward to Kias, just really out of pure curiousity,if that makes any sense.Though from what Ive read I understand she sings around Atlanta, and some folks have seen her in LA. It sounds like she has really been working at it hard. If it means anything that hard work pays off, because in comparion to Kia,lets face it Kia’s the look that hollywood seems to promote when it comes to black people.I personally think Leaf is beautiful natural.l get what the stylist was trying to do—but I think Leaf’s natural beauty was hidden.I can see a greater contribution to the music industry for Leaf because of her artistry, her songwriting, her fight, real fight there I saw,and energy a willingness to think out of the box,and a great voice. I think the way to do Leaf,is think about John Mayer.Just give her a band, her jeans, her natural hair and her songs and she will change the world.

i think leafs good but kia shouldve won she was great vocally she obviously has the look but the only reason i can say leaf won was because of how diverse she was

I LIKED BOTH BUT I DIDN’T LIKED THE WAY THEY DRESSED LEAF BECAUSE SHE’S A ROCKER CHICK ALL SHE NEEDS IS A BAND AND NO DANCERS AND KIA WAS GREAT BUT I KNOW SHE WASN’T PICKED AS THE WINNER BUT WHAT I THINK THE WORLD WILL SEE KIA AGAIN, I HOPE THEY DON’T CHANGE LEAF AND I HOPE SHE PUTS HER FOOT DOWN

Hmmmm…well there was a lot going on last. I’ll start with Kia. First off she did sound great but I heard background vocals and didnt see any backgroun singers. 2nd I thought the performance didnt represent her song. I thought her song was about being a respected woman but they tear off her clothes and she looks like she belongs on a street corner (well that seems to be the norm in the industry for R&B artists). THe snow the choir was a lil overboard but overall I think Kia did a great job.

NOW Leaf. All along I have been a leaf fan and I still am. But I too was not feeling the big purple lashes. I do think her show would have been best with her in a simple fit and her band. I don’t think she needs dancers and all that either and her second song seemed like it was a little too fast. But I like Leaf even if she needs to work on her vocals. I think there’s alot she can do and she only has up to go from here. She has everything else working for her and all she needs now is a really great vocal coach and a better stylist and makeup artist.

I will certainly be looking out for Leaf’s album if it’s anything like i heard on her myspace page. Yeah i did some research http://www.myspace.com/leafsmusic

I happy for Leaf and I’m sure we will see more of Kia too. I think Leaf needs some vocal polishing and she should just keep her image simple and natural and she’ll be okay. I kinda already know what Kia’s album or single would sound like but i don’t know what to expect from Leaf its seems like her album would be more versatile so i’m waitin for it to drop. I’m excited for Leaf and Kia and wish them both well.

I think Leaf has the potential to be a phenomenal artist and I think that’s why she won. I think that’s what the Industry Judges Saw her and I’m looking forward to her album!!! GO LEAF GO LEAF!!

Welcome to dreamland producers, didn’t want viewers to know what all of the judges had to say about both performances, this was done to conceal what went on behind the scenes. You didn’t the hear the judges anounce their choice, did we? Both performances were edited even Mario’s vocals were edited, where you could hear the cd version of the song in the background. While the show was and is a great concept, the authenticity has been lost. The producers of the show picked who would win and not the judges. The judges were there for show.

i just think they ruined leafs beauty with all that makeup and mess. what was that? i think you just couldnt get her beauty. thats whats wrong with black people in the music business, they want everyone to wear makeup and be half naked, and carry on and be over done. sometimes black people need to stop overdoing stuff. it is obvious her stylists were out of touch with who leaf really is because they overdid it completely. as far as leafs performance goes i think her performance was amazing, trully amazing.they had her dancing and carrying on,which might have cuaght her off guard, they just had leaf doing stuff that wasnt leaf..if they had let the girl alone, and just givin her her band, she would of blown everybody away.its not always about
all that makeup and stuff. it just isnt. you have to let a flower be a flower.having said that,i am lookign forward to leafs album, because i am hoping she will hav elearned from allt his,and take control of her image, and music like michaeol jackson, and other peopkle who what works for them. you have to do what works for you. i still don’t care for kia,and im persoinally glad that she didn’t win, because that would have been just so predictable and the same old stuff. i am excited for leaf because the little bit of her music i heard,i want to her more. souls mate. i dug how she talked to the audiencve, and related, had noi fear, and got in the spirit of the song, and played her guitar with such amazing confidence.i mean iw as amazed. you all are looking at the wrong stuff.LEAFS ALBUM.LETSGETITGOING.

I loveeeed LEAF. she had the amazing stage presence. The crowd was totally with her all the way. I loveed that LEaf can really play that guitar. I loved the guitar solo she did in the beginning. I loved how she talked to audience and talked about the LORD being your soul mate while you waitin. I can totally relate to that. SHe was entertainin (loved the robot dance she had going on-cute) and I loved her and looking forward to her ablum.

I enjoyed both performances! Umm vocally I have to say Kia was much better but I love Leafs style. I love that ethno centric-rock-soul vibe I got from Leaf!! Kia is a very beautiful girl and she actually can sing !! Her performance…… I mean it was ok, she can’t really dance but I mean we are so used to seeing beyonce dance her butt off EVERY VIDEO LOL!!! Anyways good job and good luck to Leaf and Kia. I also agree with the comments about the make-up and wardrobe!! It was little too much for me!! Ok now what I really wanted to ask is if there will be another dreamland and how I can audition!!!!!!!!!! I’m just waiting for an opportunity too prove myself!!

I think the only reason leaf won is becuase of her style but come on everyone know that KIA should have won. Not only does she have the look, she can sing her ass off. She also has a great personality. Im so mad becuase i felt leaf won because she was the “underdog” but its like come on atleast Kandi a real musician knew leaf cant hold a note, plus we already got india arie (which she can actually sing) vivian green, solange, estelle! do yall actually think leaf can compete with them girl? All kia need is a litlle dance practice andshell be dominating the charts soon. becuase i know jazze pha didnt just let that talent go to waste

Both ladies are beautifully talented in their own right. Truth is…there had to be a winner…and PRAISE JEHOVAH it was an artist that carries something compelling, new and refreshing that the industry DESPERATELY needs. Indeed, in my opinion, choosing Leaf was cool, eclectic and BRILLIANT! :) Blessings to both of u sistas!

When the R&B spoon fed drones of society finally have some guy in a suit to redefine for them what music is supposed to be…perhaps the Leafs of the world will be able to shine, free from the ridicule of the puppet audiences that fill clubs and concert halls too numerous to mention….but for once…on this night….
this time….
a true artist emerged from the mire…
no disrespect to the others, but it is nothing less than ignorant for someone to peg any black woman with an acoustic guitar another or “the next” India Arie or Tracy Chapman. that’s jsut like all the black and white sycophants alike that see a brotha with an electric guitar and say…”Oh their trying to be like living colour”…
the universe of black music and music as a whole is huge, and the fickle narrowminded public is slowly beginning to awaken…and when they do, Leaf, and all the hard working musicians like her, will be center stage.

Leafs style is new and refreshing theres only three words that describe Leaf: Amazing , Beautiful and Talented ! A total inspiration? and perfect role model for young women all across the world . Her mom is a fun sweat spirited person as we can see on the show. Her little brother is a pretty cool cat too; What a blessed talented humble family. Her dad is smiling down from heaven above poking his chest out saying “Yep thats my daughter” ;)

I like both finalist but leaf is in a league of her own. I feel that she showed her versatility the whole show and the best is yet to come. ;)
