Leaf’s Dream Begins on Dreamland Finale

Last night Leaf and Kia battled it out in the Welcome to Dreamland finale to find out who would be crowned the winner.
When Kia hit the stage, she finally showed the level of confidence she was criticized for lacking in previous episodes. As far as dancing goes she looked more Rihanna than Beyonce. That’s OK, though, because at least she sounded strong vocally on stage. Joining her act was Mario, who came out of nowhere and hit the stage to sing-a-long with the Team Phenzel representative.
Where as Kia offered more of what you’ll find on the radio, Leaf presented something more of the coffee shop variety. I might be alone in this, but for a second I couldn’t get past her look long enough to pay attention to the overall performance. With respect to her stylist, she looked like Andre 3000’s confused little sister.
I didn’t get it, but the crowd seemed to enjoy what Black Cyndi Lauper had to offer on stage.
One of the judges wasn’t nearly as moved as the crowd was, however. Kandi of Xscape and “No Scrubs” fame pointed out that vocally Leaf was a bit all over the place. I thought the same thing, but apparently shaky vocals weren’t enough to stop Leaf from taking the title for Team GSU and crowned the Queen of Dreamland.
That means Kia is back to the drawing board while Leaf starts recording her debut album.
Will you be on the look out for it when it drops?

Leaf’s performance was mesmerizing! I love her sound and energy. It’s so refreshing and greatly needed. It’s good to know that you can still be inspired by music is this day and age. Looking forward to buying concert tickets,CD’s, Posters, and magazines with Leaf on the cover!!
Luvin the music Leaf brings, the other girl could sing but there’s enough of that style!
I loved Leaf, it’s about time somebody was different, interesting and had something to say! Nuff said!
I’m not surprised at all that LEAF won. I won’t put down Kia’s talent but there are way too many artists like her around. We need more original artists. People who write from their hearts and sing their souls out. We need creative types who have enough vocal talent to put out a song without having a rapper babbling all over it. LEAF is a talent in the vein of Tracy Chapman, India.Irie, Erika Badu, and Mary Cutrufello.
LEAF rocks out on the guitar and does not depend on manufactured beats to support her incredible vocals. She stands out with her own fashion sense the way Cyndi Lauper did in the early 80’s. Her outlook says, “I don’t want to be another face in the crowd. I want stand out and be noticed, heard.”
We need more artists with meaningful lyrics where you actually listen to a song and think of what it means and how it can enhance your outlook on life. Yes, it is sometimes necessary to turn everything off and just dance and have fun but then LEAF comes around and makes you notice. And, yes, you can dance to her songs too.
Eagerly looking forward to LEAF’s recordings and tour. Keep it up, girl!
LEAF is great..she is extremely talented…always has been and will be since Elementary school if you put something in front of her she was going to achieve it! I wish the best for my girl and the world will see what her family and friends knew all along…the humble and loving spirit that both her mother and father provided her will be given to the world!!!
Good Hope..LEAF!!!!!
Leaf is one of a kind. I love her style and her passion for life and music. She also play an instrument which is a plus in this business. She was raised by a great mom who also values life and live positive. Leaf is my kind of person. A people’s person who is down to earth and real at heart. Keep makin’ it happen Leaf! Hopefully we can work together one day.

I’m so ESTATIC about Leaf’s accomplishment!! She soooo deserved it! She’s a humble person, and one of a kind! Her music and style says it all, and I’m sure she’ll go so very far with her career!! We have enough carbon copies, its time for someone new to shine!!!! Peace & Blessings!!!:-)))
I really enjoyed both performances and had already determined that whoever won – both were winners! Their styles were so differant that they really could’ve called that a tie! I enjoyed Kia’s stage presence and her vocals as well as Leaf’s stage presence and vocals. Criticisms?? Kia’s outfit was a bit MUCH – she could’ve covered some of that up. Leaf is a tad bit arrogant and was out of line for referring to Kandi as “that lady” and calling her constructive criticism “negativity”. Apparently Kandi has done SOMETHING in her already established career that put her in a position as a judge. Humility is golden when you are being addressed by a VET in the game….
Leaf was incredible! I am so happy she won. She can both efficiently and effectively take Dreamland to the next level! She can sing, write, play the guitar, look good, has her own voice, takes direction and lead others all while speaking to the positive in everybody she comes across! Kai was good also but her voice did not move me the way Leafs voice and performance did. I am disgusted by the radio, no harm to Kai but she sounds like every other singer out there. Where is the originality, innovation, a passion to give your gift to the world? (Not just get paid by it.) Leaf had the bravery to do the thing that has not been done. I am like so many others out there that have to dig threw used cd shops and find local live act to really be feed imaginatively. Leaf had restoring my faith in the music industry. Leaf has an elevated level of actual joy and peace that I saw every time she was on the tub. Her oomph, energy, charm and beauty was memorizing! Today with so much negativity in the world we need more artists like her. Her performance was life giving and life changing. I think it’s her personal values and relationship with her mom that makes her a powerful artist. As an African American women that encouraged me. She supported of every women on the show and was respectful to the staff; when was the last time we saw that on a really show?! Her music may not be for everybody but her positive energy sure is; who does not like a sunny day? Lol. I can’t wait to hear more from her and to see her perform again. How long till the cd is dropped and tour starts?! So will I be on the look out for your album to drop? Yes.
Well I for one am THRILLED that Leaf won. Although Kia was a great singer…there is nothing really different about her. Leaf is refreshingly earthy and positive. There are a lot more people out there than the “divas” that all black women are “supposed” to be.
Not only is Leaf beautiful, but she’s a songwriter…which is awesome. I also liked seeing the relationship she had with her Mom. I can’t wait to hear Leaf’s album and see her on the next level.
Leaf Is Incredible!!!!! I am so glad to see that GOOD SOUL music is coming back. We dont need anymore POP R&B. We have plenty of Beyonce and wanna be’s. We appreciate seeing more than one representation of talent.
Thank you BET!!! Please continue to provide a BALANCED platform of Music and Entertainment.
I Feel That Leaf Did A Good Job And She Is Bringing A New Sense Of Style To The Industry…IT Is Obvious That Even Though Kia Does Have A Descent Voice People Are Only Looking At Her Looks And Thats Not Always Wats Best But Im Glad That Leaf Won…She Deserve It Hands Down{People Shold Be Tired Of The Same Voices, Everyone Sounds The Same}!!!!!
I think that there are enough Kia’s in the industry. Leaf is different and she sings from her heart and soul. Can’t wait to hear what she is going to do. It’s been a long time coming.
COnGrats!!!!! LEAF we Loves YOUSSSS. U gave us our 1st big break in The A…..U Deserve IT!!!!!
Water Seed
Congrats to both ladies for their hard work. Leaf you ROCKED!!!!! I was smiling the entire time of your performance. You came with a refreshing and new sound. I loved it and I think that your TRIPLE threat takes you from being a good artist to an exceptional artist. I wish you the very best!!!!
Way to go Leaf ! You are one hot sister! Keep it coming!
Okay…took me a minute to soak it all in… now, let me say that while Kia is obviously talented, I think she represented the “typical, run-of-the-mill” artist. Unfortunately, we have more than enough of “Kia” out there. I think Kia can still go far, however, she has got to be more original. With that said, originality was exactly what Leaf brought to the stage. I think that Leaf represents an alternative all too often lacking in entertainment. I love the fact that Leaf is a musician and offers an “experience” that’s new. I thought that Leaf was a refreshing and, her winning, speaks volumes to the industry at large as to the change consumers are desperate for in entertainment.
For once a reality show whose outcome screams “the reality” of music… out with the old, in with the new! Cookie cutter music is whack. “Barbie doll” artists have their place and just about all the spots are filled. Live music-based experiences must make a come back. Positive music must rise… not contrived messaging; real positivity from the genuine heart of the Artist, not just a “poster child”. I believe Leaf represents the new, genuine, live music positivity. Go Leaf! Stay real, bring the real back and do the real!
Was unimpressed, and somewhat disappointed with Kia’s presentation. I agree with prior comment that it didn’t match the message of the song. I’d hope the message would have indicated a different wardrobe for Kia. Nothing really special, but, best wishes Kia. Keep going. On other hand, Leaf, congratulations. It was cool to see “special” on stage.
I agree that the winner was obviously chosen before the show began. Anyone that has an ear could not even hear the melody of Leaf’s song during her performance. Her style and movements on stage was awkward. Great job at promoting your chosen artist! I hope Kia was awarded a contract as a consolation prize for putting up with the charade
