What happens when bad reality TV goes really bad? It transitions to realer life, as in politics.  I just got word that Kwame “IT” Smalls of I Love New York 2 and I love Money 2 fame has been put on the Democratic ballot for City Council member in the 26th district of Queens (which includes Maspet, Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside). George “Tailor Made” Weisberger, also from the same shows, will be IT’s campaign manager.

I’m not sure whether you remember IT or not, but he made his reality TV debut on I Love New York 2, and earned his name because of his eccentric personality and way of speaking. He mumbled a lot and used New York City jargon in between the actual English words you could make out. He was like a homeboy from outter space—Flavor Flav meets Chewbacca, if you will. I’m clowning the brotha, but in jest. He was a likable character. I just can’t imagine him a politician.

IT and Tailor Made revealed in the I Love Money 2 finale, that they had developed a friendship and had plans of getting into politics, but no one really took them seriously. I guess we were wrong. The pair has organized a team of volunteers and obtained enough signatures to bring IT’s political ambitions closer to becoming reality. I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, IT might be smarter than he’s made himself appear. After all, if the Terminator is governor, then why can’t a reality star pursue his political ambitions too. Plus, Tailor Made fights to win. He’s going to be a great (and probably ruthless) campaign manager.

The Democratic Primary is September 15th. IT and Tailor Made will be conducting Town Hall meetings with voters each week for the next few months to better understand the needs of the constituents. I wish I lived in the district so that I could attend a meeting. I can’t imagine IT giving a serious speech, but we shall see. I wonder if Vh1 will make a show out of their journey.
