Trailer For Lil’ Wayne’s Behind The Music

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 12:00 am.

As you can see a trailer for the previously reported Behind The Music special on Lil’ Wayne has finally been posted.

Now, there are some people who wonder why Lil’ Wayne of all people is getting a feature like this when he’s only 27.

Clearly it’s about netting high ratings, so since I’ve just pointed out the obvious, is anyone else hoping this special answers some long unanswered questions about the fertile multi-platinum rapper?

I have plenty, but here are a few:

1. Why doesn’t he believe in condoms?

2. Why does he drink cough syrup like it’s Kool-Aid?

3. Does he ever worry that once he gets older all of those tats on his face are going to leave him looking like The Great Gazoo?

4. Where on Earth does he think of some of the lyrics that come out of his mouth? There are days where I wonder if he’s from New Orleans or New Neptune.

5. So about that condom question, what gives?

These questions may sound silly to you, but I’m hoping BTM producers give me some answers.

Is there any burning question about Lil’ Wayne’s life you hope this special answers?

Drop them in the comments section below and be sure to tune into the show on September 10th at 10 P.M. EST.

VH1 Relaunches Behind the Music With Lil Wayne

Published by Starr Rhett on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11:00 am.

I’ve been a fan of Vh1’s “celebreality” before it was officially titled that. Remember Behind the Music? It was their docu-series that provided a candid glimpse into some of our favorite musicians’ lives. I was disappointed when it stopped airing but they’ve decided to bring it back (Yippie!). It premiers in September with Lil Wayne, the self-proclaimed best rapper alive.

My first introduction to Lil Wayne was a little over 10 years ago, when Juvenile released “Back That A** Up,” where Weezy spit his infamous verse at the end (drop it like it’s hot, drop drop it like it’s hot…). At that time, I never imagined that Lil Wayne would become one of the biggest hip-hop stars on Earth. After that initial introduction, I didn’t pay much attention to him nor did I know anything about his life story other than the facts that he was from New Orleans and that he was a teen father, but I checked out Vh1’s website and learned more interesting things about him.

Lil Wayne, née Dwayne Carter Jr. is only 27, but he has seen things growing up, that most 57-year-olds haven’t. At nine, he began recording with Baby and Slim Williams and by the time he was 11 he had lost his virginity, dealt drugs, snorted cocaine and almost accidentally shot himself to death.

Wow. I don’t know how Behind the Music will effectively cover all of that in an hour but I’m looking forward to the resurrection of the series and learning more about Weezy. There’s also going to be an episode about Bobby Brown down the line. This is going to be good.

Behind the Music premiers Thursday, September 10 at 9pm.

Tiny & Toya: What Did You Think?

Published by Starr Rhett on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 11:00 am.

I initially imagined that Tiny & Toya would be more like the babymama version of Laverne and Shirley, but with a pretentious twist (like the rest of the world). However, the first episode was more interesting than I anticipated.

The show chronicles the lives of good friends, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, TI’s alleged wife, and Antonia “Toya” Johnson-Carter, Lil Wayne’s ex-wife and first child’s mother. In last night’s premier, we got a first glimpse into each woman’s world. Tiny is dealing with her now incarcerated “husband” preparing to go to prison in addition to her father having Alzheimer’s disease, while Toya struggles with a drug addicted mother.

What I like so far, is that each woman has her own identity and they both seem very down-to-Earth. Tiny reminded us in the opening credits, that she had her own career and money before TI, and Toya was Lil Wayne’s teenage love (from back in the CMB days).

It’s not ostentatious like The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Tiny and Toya actually act their ages. Sorry drama addicts, I don’t think you’ll be seeing too much cattyness this season. I’m definitely tuning in next week. What did you think?

Tiny and Toya airs Tuesday nights on BET at 10pm ET

The Tiny & Toya Show

tiny-toya

Give it up for baby mamas! They are having the best week ever.

Not only is Tiny supposedly Mrs. T.I. now, she along with friend and Lil’ Wayne’s ex-wife, Antonia “Toya” Johnson-Carter, have signed on to star in a new BET series.

Tiny and Toya is said to chronicle the lives of “two dynamic, young women immersed in the craziness of the Hip Hop world, but striving to find inner strength, peace and purpose.”

If you’re wondering that inner peace is said to not come in the form of Louis bags and saddity stilettos paid for by child support checks.

Rather, the ladies will be each starting their very own businesses.

The show will also chronicle how each copes with the legal woes of their respective baby daddies, and seeks to offer each woman an opportunity to define themselves outside of their high profile relationships.

I’ve come to love The Real Housewives of Atlanta, so I don’t doubt for a second that I’ll be watching The Baby Mamas of Bankhead when it premiers.

BET will air a preview special, Monday, June 15 at 10pm/9c followed by a sneak peek Sunday, June 28 (immediately after the BET Awards).

She Got Her Own

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 12:00 pm.

oprahhair

Friday was an interesting day on daytime TV.

The women of The View tried their hardest to get inside the head of Lil’ Wayne — asking questions like does he brush his teeth (he has diamond-encrusted braces) to whether or not he still drinks lean (or drank, or syrup, whichever term you prefer) like it’s water.

Meanwhile a few hours later, the Queen of Daytime TV the Universe had to check those who question what’s in her scalp.

Oprah would like ya’ll out there to stop acting like she can’t have that good hurr, too. Oprah answered questions from her hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers (which she got in like 30 seconds) and one pertained to her hair.

She said at the end of Friday’s episode, “Am I wearing a weave? Everybody’s like, ‘Oprah, we love your weave.’ This is not a weave, this is my hair.”

She then put up this photo of how she looks before she gets her hair did. I won’t dare comment on it because I don’t need Gayle King trying to cut me.

If I were you I would not question Oprah. So when she says I’m not wearing a lace front or a weave, you better believe her if you know what’s good for you.

Just let this picture serve as proof that your average Black girl can indeed have long hair without it originally coming from the head of a Korean or a poor hungry girl in India.
