Check out the most stand out Black women on reality TV from 1992-2009. Whether you love them or hate them, they have memorable attributes (and moments) that still comes up at the water cooler, even years later.
10. Devyn (Real World Brooklyn)

Black women in Reality TV are often stereotyped as the b—h or ABW but Devyn is the complete opposite. The Missouri Beauty Queen is laid back, articulate and extremely personable. Her bubbly personality breaks barriers helping people to see her beyond the color of her skin.
9. Taj (Survivor Tocantins)

This former R&B diva may be struggling on Survivor but she gets props for allowing us into her real world via her other show, I Married a Baller. She’s a great mother and wife, and watching her family on TV is inspiration for Black family unity.
8. Heather B. (Real World, season one)

Heather B. was the around-the-way-girl from NYC who although strong minded, was never intimidating. She made friends easily and showed that you can speak your mind without being obnoxious.
7. Coral (Real World season 10)

Coral was abrasive but viewers were always ready for the next tongue lashing she dished out. The most memorable was when she schooled her sheltered, prejudice cast mate Mike for expressing ignorant views about Black people. She, of course, beat him down verbally but also literally schooled him by making him report back to her every week, with knowledge about iconic Black History figures.
6. Tanisha (Bad Girls Club, season two)

When season two of Bad Girls Club first started, viewers wrote Tanisha off as the typical hood chick from Brooklyn who was loud and ghetto. She took the cake when she traipsed around her house banging pots and pans together in an attempt to disturb roommates in retaliation for them waking her up with loud talking. However, by the end of the season, she was falsely accused of participating in a fight and sent to jail (and racism), but she learned from the experience and decided to calm down her raucous behavior.
5. Vecepia Towery (Survivor: Marquesas)

She was the first African-American winner of Survivor. You’ve gotta be pretty tough to “survive” that show, and she did.
4. Sister Patterson (Flavor of Love, I Love New York and New York Goes to Hollywood)

We met Sister Patterson on season one of Flavor of Love. She was extremely belligerent and declared all out war against Flavor Flav. She was determined to keep her daughter New York née Tiffany, from being with him and fussed her way all the way to season two, when her daughter was invited back to try again for Flav’s heart. The second time wasn’t a charm for her daughter, but Sister Patterson made sure she had a say in her daughter’s life when New York got two spin off shows.
3. Omarosa (The Apprentice)

Love her or hate her, she demands respect. And if she feels that she is getting anything less, heads will roll.
2. NeNe (Real Housewives of Atlanta)

NeNe was the break out star from Bravo’s the Real Housewives of Atlanta. We loved her because she was sassy and fearless. She took a bad situation ie, being physically abused in a previous marriage, and turned her life around. Her over-the-top glam and signature sound affects (”BAM!”) are what endeared her to fans the most. She was such a standout personality that she could probably carry her own show. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was in the works.
1. New York (Flavor of Love, I Love New York and New York Goes to Hollywood)

Tiffany Pollard aka New York has done what no woman on reality TV has ever done. She worked her personality (whether you like it our not) to scoring not one, but two spin off shows. After Flavor Flav broke her heart twice, producers gave her a chance to find love on her own terms. After season two of I Love New York ended, we thought Tiffany had found love in Tailor Made, and watched her move on to Hollywood. On New York Goes to Hollywood, she persued her dreams of acting and broke up with Tailor Made in the process. Producers still couldn’t get enough and offered her I Love New York season three. New York declined but some how, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of her on reality tube.
