Keenen Ivory Wayans‘ In Living Color helped paved the way for several careers including those of Jim Carey, Tommy Davidson, David Alan Grier, Kim Coles and more importantly his siblings, Kim Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Damon Wayans. After In Living Color, Shawn, Marlon and Damon went on to have their own TV shows and Kim starred in LL Cool J’s In The House. They’ve dabbled in television and film througout the years and have finally passed the torch to the next generation of Wayans.

I read an interesting article in Entertainment Weekly about the new generation of Wayans stepping up to the comedy plate. Damon Wayans Jr. and cousins, Damien Wayans and Craig Wayans are proving that funny is in their bones with Dance Flick, but what’s next?

It’s clear that they’re keeping up the family tradition, but will their next move be in film or TV? According to the article, Damon Jr. is working on scripts while Damien and Craig are forming their own production company called Second Generation Entertainment, but there are more Wayans waiting in the wings as Marlon’s daughter is also writing scripts and he says his son wants to be the “Black Jackie Chan.” That’s a lot going on but in the meantime, my prediction is that Damien and Craig will be the first to cook up more hilarity with a TV show in the same vein as In Living Color (I hope so). It’s about time TV got a new comic variety show so I hope they’ll get that going. Either way, the new Wayans generation will be very successful and I wish them much luck.
