Top 10 Reasons To Watch The BET Awards
Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 12:41 am.I’m not saying this out of personal bias, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be watching the BET Awards this Sunday.
But, some of ya’ll out there are stubborn, but no worries, I’m going to do my best to convince you to do what you should be doing anyway.
Below are my top ten reasons why you need to be watching the 2009 BET Awards.
1. What else do you have to do? Most people with melanin will be watching the awards. Don’t have cable? “Borrow” from your neighbor or invite yourself over. Do whatever it is you need to do to watch the show.
Disclaimer: I am kidding about stealing cable. I have no bail money for you.
2. Jamie Foxx is hosting. No offense to the strange man from across the pond who hosted last year’s VMAs, but I’ll take Wanda any day over him. Already Jamie has promised his opening monologue will take it back to his days at Def Comedy Jam. Get ready to laugh.
3. Beyonce will be there. Perhaps it’s the stan in me, but I’ve noticed the better editions of the BET Awards have featured Queen Bey shaking her lace front on stage. Be excited.
4. Two words: Halllleeeeee Berrrrrry. If you are from the South or at least not a hater of the southern dance movement, get ready to break out your hand and dance like you’re having an aneurysm because Hurricane Chris will be performing “Halle Berry (She Fine).”
5. Maxwell is performing. Maxwell killed last year, and it’s been so long since we’ve had an R&B vocalist who doesn’t sing in a way that reminds you of Rosie from The Jetsons.
6. Soulja Boy is performing. Now, this doesn’t necessarily tickle my fancy, but I understand he’s all the rage at the playground, so get ready to turn your swag on as the MC Hammer remix takes the stage.
7. Mary Mary are booked to get their praise on during the show. Amen and all that.
8. The O’Jays are being honored for their musical achievements. You know you want to see your mama and ‘nem (yes ‘nem) cut up.
9. Because I said you should watch it. I think I have pretty good judgment. You should trust me.
10. The Michael Jackson tribute. As sad as it is to find out that the King of Pop is now moonwalking in heaven, BET has announced that there will be a tribute for the fallen icon at the beginning of the show. You don’t want to miss the surprises lined up.

I WOULD’NT MISS HIS TRIBUTE FOR THE WORLD!!!!!!! IAM PRAYING THAT THEY LET CHRIS BROWN PERFORM.BECAUSE I SAW A COUPLE OF HIS U TUBE PERFORMANCES.
I am glad they are being the first to do this for mj! Everyone in the music world lookd up to him! chris brown I hope he does a dance like he did for James brown! N usher ciara omarion! Rest in peace mj I’ll miss you
I’m looking forward to watching the tribute. they really need to go ALL OUT FOR MIKE! cause 1/2 of the performers would not be performers if it were not for him! they all always pay homage to MJ. it makes me happy to see they are doing this for him. when i get off work at 6pm, im heading straight home to watch it.
I am pretty disappointed by what I’m seeing on the air right now. The BET Awards is a sad testament to how far mainstream culture, in general, and Black culture, in particular, has disintegrated.
Michael Jackson was about professionalism and perfectionism and respect–the profanity, coarseness, sloppiness and tomfoolery that most of the performers are perpetuating is in no way reflective of what Michael Jackson stood for. With the exception of Beyonce, so far, who is taking advantage of this opportunity to show our better selves?
BET producers, if a child on stage has to put on earphones because language in a performance is not appropriate, then it its not appropriate for any one in the audience, including the children who may be watching at home! Jamie–choose another song for goodness sakes, one that you wouldn’t mind YOUR daughter listening to.
I am disappointed that once agin the power that be have allowed the the inarticulate, uneducated, untalented masses to lead the way.
There’s only one legitimate place I’ve found to watch it, the rest seem like scams :-/ You can see it over here though: http://freeonlinemovies.us/watch28015.html
They make you do a little survey but after that it’s good to go
It shouldve been named 10 reasons why I should not have watched the award show last night:
1) Horrible 2)Terrible 3)Disappointing 4)Time consuming 5)Did I say horrible already(well you cant say it too many times) 6) This was a regular award show with a few of MJ’s songs thrown in 7)This was not a tribute it was a debacle 8)Way to go BET, you know how to do it big! 9)How about reinforcing those stereotypical black images and 10) Where was the tribute again(wow I was numb after watching that, hmmmm….tribute??????/
I don’t see yesterday
i don’t see yesteday
I AM so disappointed that Chris Brown didn’t perform. I think it was wrong to dupe his fans into thinking he was gonna perform just to garner ratings. Shame on you? Who are you to judg ? I truly hope that VH1 or MTV put on a true tribute to Michael and allow him to perform. Yet, you let a dopehead facing drug charges perform two songs. Wasn’t much of a tribute if you ask me. It was more of a hot as mess. I see why I don’t watch BET
I missed the awards and since there was a tribute to Michael Jackson I would like to know if you are going to re-air the BET 2009 Awards. I had no idea that the tribute would include Michael Jackson’s family addressing the public at the ceremony.
OMG…THE AWARDS SUCKED…JAIME FOXX DIDNT DO A GOOD JOB AT BEING THE HOST…MY KIDS WERE WATCHING IT(I FELT IT WAS VERY INAPPROIATE FOR HIM TO PULL THE PANTS UP AND SHOW HIS “CAMEL TOE”)…THE PROFANITY WAS TOO MUCH!!!! I WANT TO SAY THA T BET SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH THE ORIGINAL THEME/SCHEDULE AND LATER DO A PLANNED/ORGANIZED TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON…HOW COULD YOU DO A TRIBUTE WITHOUT REAL SINGERS/ENTERTAINERS? ITS THAT WHAT MICHAEL JACKSON WAS? WHERE WAS USHER OR CHRIS BROWN?(IF YOU ALL CANCELED CHRIS BROWN BECAUSE OF JAY Z AND BEYONCE-I’LL TELL U, THE SHOW WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER WITHOUT THEM!!!!) WHERE WAS MARIAH?(WAITING FOR I’LL BE THERE) NEYO DID GOOD THO…SORRY PURE FOOLERY WAS SHOWN…
This awards show was awful, PERIOD. I was EMBARRASSED for you BET. You ought to be ashamed. If you knew it wasn’t enough time to put something classy and tasteful together, you should have waited or carried on with the original plan. You guys could have done more slideshows featuring MJ, included more interviews that he’s done in the past, had performers sing “We Are the World” together, heck you could have pulled clips from YOUTUBE, included more biographical information that you could find on WIKI, anything but what you did. Whoever put that show together needs to be fired, twice over.
I am very upset with BET’s tribute to Michael Jackson. This award show which may have been difficult to put together in the last minute, should have been forgotten. It was not a real tribute to MJ. It was a sad excuse for a tribute. People expected alot more from BET. It’s not just the award show that upset me, it’s the overall lack of respect for Michael. All weekend MTV and VH1 had been playing his videos, and telling his stories. BET did not do that. As a black channel, representing black people, who should be proud to have the 1st honor of paying tribute to this great man. Now some other channel is going to get to do it. Where Diana Ross, and Quincy Jones, etc. will be there. How can another channel represent better than BET. This is a great black man. There was no major tribute to Michael. That’s what the world wanted to see. Everyone I talked to was disappointed with this show. I watched for 4 hours as BET embarrassed themselves and black people. We should be the first to hold MJ on high. I think Jamie Foxx did a good job, however was the show set aside for him and Neyo. I think everyone was expecting Chris Brown to represent Michael. Who else could do it but him? Usher could have also, but not with the young energy of Chris. Even Ginuwine could have done it. I don’t understand. You have Rocsi, Terrence, Debra Lee saying we’re making history, this is going to be big. After it was over, I immediately thought, where is Bob Johnson. The show should have ended on a high note. Let us dance. No one but Keri Hilson, and New Edition moved to represent Michael. There were no real performances. Just people walking and singing, or rapping. How dare BET dedicate this show to Michael. It was so sad. And because BET represents black people, it looks like we don’t care enough. It should have been left alone. A tribute should have been done on another day.
I completely missed the awards show. Does anyone know if they will be a repeat on any time soon ?
I wa not going to say anything but htis has really bothered me..I really do not know how true this is or not but i must comment.I heard on the radio that it was said the reason Chris Brown was not on the show is due to Jay Z threating to pull out. if this is not true then i apologize for what i am about to say.i am a older fan of MJ, i also like Jay Z..Chris Brown is a very talented young man that i believe has mant situation that are above what the tabloids are putting out there.Until you have walked in a person shoes no one knows the reason for a person’s actions…I must say i was very disappointed if this is the reason he was not on the show. I believe Michael was a big inspiration to CB and that Last night was not about Jay Z although his preformance was on point. Chris Brown was the only person that could have Electrified that stage with Michael Jackson’s moves.I believe all things should have been put on the back burner in order to pay the right type of show in honor of Michael Jackson..You know to me Jay Z albums were going to continue to sell regardless if Chris performed or not.. This was bigger then Jay Z and he has managed to bother me with this if this is true..He talk about how grown he is on 30 something so if he went here than maybe that song is not the truth…Although i be no means support what happened with Chris and Rhianna i do believe last night at the awards was not the time to show his power.Chris Brown should have preformed no matter who was pissed because believe me everyone would have still tuned into BET had you choose to have him on there…I will truly miss Michael Jackson and i think BET if you were going to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. Chris Brown would have turned that tribute all the way out in a way none of the other preformers did, that young man could not duplicate MJ but he could have took you back to Michael Jackson the real way!!!! I was very Disappointed in This Tribute foreal and i pray with all my heart Jay Z was not the reason you left Chris Brown out of this show….
Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He is eight years older than me, lol. We met online at ~~~ Agelessmatch.com ~~~ a nice and free place for younger women and older men, or older women and younger men, to interact with each other. You may wanna check it out.
While I am a fan of Jamie Foxx, I think that the comment about why MJ always grabbed himself because his pants were tight and interfered with his gential area could have been omitted. I mean is that a tribute? Idk. Also I was glad to see New Edition perform but was it just me but alot of the performers did not sound right. I mean New Edition was singing way to low so much so that I could not understand them. Also when Guy performed the audio was not great. Overall I do not think the show was terrible, but it could have been coordinated a bit better. Also, BET please do not air the Show with Neffie and Frankie. I mean seriously. Is this what you have become. What honestly will become of that show but a ghetto mess.
The BET show was good. I enjoyed it. I’m pretty ghetto so I can relate. Jamie Foxx is truly funny and I think he did a good job. Beyonce was beautiful. Ciera sucked I was embarassed for her. Keyshia and Monica did alright and the Lil wayne and Drake thing was a disaster. But that didn’t surprise me. Jay Z was off the chain he shut them cats down out there. Trey Songs and Tyrese fine fine fine. All in all it was a good show. RIP Micheal Jackson you will forever be missed!
Bet Award:
What a hot mess, everyone should of been disappointed about the award show.. The cussing all the disrespect, we finally get a BET show and this is what you put on tv. Give me a break! To the wonderful children and MJ please pray for the ignorant people in the world, I think we all need to call in and have them redicate that award show, it was a hot mess.
To the young people out there please stop wearinh your pants hanging off your butts, you look like clowns at the circus, can’t you dress nice for a change. And spend some of your money on taking a english class instead of all that jewlry!
