Baron Davis didn’t make it the NBA Finals this year, but he does have cause to celebrate. “Made in America,” not to be confused with the 1993 feature film of the same name featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Nia Long and Will Smith, will make it’s L.A. premiere Friday night at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

The film, which was produced by Davis, co-produced by Jessica Alba’s baby daddy Cash Warren and executive produced by Quincy D. Jones III and Steve Luczo, chronicles the history of the Crips and the Bloods and the impact these notorious L.A. gangs have had on South Central and on society as a whole.

Davis, who grew up in L.A. told USA Today that, “I wanted to put my money into something that would help people,” he said. I think it’s a great film. It can cause change, and that’s what we’re trying to accomplish.”

Artistically, the film directed by Stacy Peralta and narrated by Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, got raves when it premiered at Sundance in January. It includes footage of past and present gang members, archival clips and interviews with people who have been negatively affected by gang violence.

“It’s truly powerful,” Whitaker told BET.com. “I think it’s really going to inspire change–at least I hope so.”
